On Sunday, June 8th, Mariah called in from Hawaii to talk about her new album E=MC², her secret wedding to Nick Cannon, and more with DJ Ronnie Herel on BBC Radio 1Xtra in London, UK.
Listen to the interview to the right. Click here to download an MP3 file.
Below are some quotes from the interview.
Talking about E=MC² "I hope people will get the album and really listen to it 'cause it's definitely, definitely like, I don't know, I mean, Jermaine [Dupri] and I who really collaborated on the Mimi album, he feels this is a better album and I think that's a pretty big deal 'cause he says he basically never, he usually speaks the truth. He's a pretty blunt guy."
"I feel like God has definitely blessed me with an album that I'm really proud of and I'm really grateful for, and really grateful for just all the success and the exciting things that have gone on like the Time magazine's Top 100 Most Influential People in the World. That was a dream, not even a dream-come-true. I never imagined that would happen and Stevie Wonder just wrote an amazing write-up about me. Stevie Wonder's my favorite. I've always been a huge fan of his so to see him write something that was so incredibly flattering about me as an artist and then as a human being, that was like, I think, that's probably the best thing that's happened to me in my career."
Discussing Recent Wedding "I really feel like I've been talking about it because I'm excited about it and I think we're both really happy at this point in time in a different way than maybe than people can understand but the point is if we would have just been like, 'okay, it's a big engagement and let's have a big Hollywood hoopla and bla-bla-bla,' I think people would have, I don't know how people would have responded. It doesn't really matter. We wanted to get married and that was our private moment and it was very, very small, just a very, very intimate group of people. There was not a huge ordeal, Hollywood moment it was not that at all. After the fact that we wanted people to see pictures, we had pictures that we could give you know that's fine but it's like this is just something that happens once in a lifetime, in terms of this type of a feeling so I don't think that it would have been about inviting a bunch of people that you really don't know that well just to make a big hoopla about it. It wasn't about celebrity or not celebrity. It was about people who could appreciate the fact that we love each other and that's something we wanted to do."
Dispelling 'Second Big Wedding' Rumor "I don't know where that came from. No, here's the thing like, it's so bizarre, there's always one like this weird rumor that we were gonna spend $4 million on a wedding, I'm like, 'why?' Why would anybody set out to spend $4 million on a wedding? We got married privately, you know, like secretly kind of basically. And then of course, you know, we were getting married on a beach and I got there a little late and so we almost didn't have any sunlight left for the pictures and it was like, it was what it was but no we're not doing that. What we said was we would probably do, and this is actually the next idea that we're maybe just, you know, have a different type of party to celebrate every year like I'm getting married every year thing."

Tuesday, 20-May-2008, 3:10AM EDT | Posted by Lynn Full Audio: Oprah's Gayle Interviews Mariah
Mariah was in-studio Wednesday, April 30th at Radio XM 156's Oprah & Friends for a very revealing interview with host Gayle King. She talked about her new album, "Touch My Body," her mother's inspiration and encouragement, her past relationships, the ups and downs of her career, Tennessee, and "Side Effects"...
"When I said I wanted to be the girl in the video of 'Dreamlover,' that was in a part of my life when I was very young and in a situation that was very restrictive and so I would look at the video and be like I'm happy because the director was telling me to smile. She's like, 'You look really beautiful when you smile.' When I was a little depressed inside, I would fake a smile and deal with the side effects. But the thing is that nobody knew that and then the Vanity Fair article came out in '96 and they started talking about certain personal things and when that happened, in a way, it empowered me and it made me feel like 'Okay, the world knows this now' and the world knows more about what's going on than I do, like people talking about people following me, in cars or wherever I went, this and that. It was a very in-depth article and I didn't know about the stuff. I didn't fully grasp the enormity that was going on. It was actually a female executive in the music business who shall remain nameless...when I was trying to leave that label, people in my life were scared for me, like Shawn and people who actually cared about me, literally scared for me like physically... not just career. That's the Dreamlover section of my life...Dreamlover come rescue me..."
"When I was doing this video ['Dreamlover'] and I would live vicariously from that moment - I was living vicariously through the girl in the video. I was doing the video with a shirt buttoned up, and the thingy, the shoes, it was okay, that was fine. 'Cause actually in the beginning I wanted people to recognize me for my voice and my songs, I got that. When I say I live vicariously through the girl I mean I didn't have an actual life, a personal life, that felt rewarding. I think I accepted that because I had too much dysfunction in my childhood. I don't say this to make anybody feel bad. This is not a reflection like, I'm not saying my mother didn't do the best she could, it's not her. I'm talking about things that I can't actually speak. One day we can but now I just actually can't."
"I wrote it ['Side Effects'] and then I said to myself, yes, I am being very open and honest about a certain, specific moment in my life but if I had a choice of not putting it on a record? There are people in abusive relationships whether that's emotional abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, whatever, that need to hear this. As a woman I feel compelled to say that."
Mariah was in-studio at Radio XM 156's Oprah & Friends for an interview with host Gayle King on Wednesday, April 30th.

She's a record-breaking, Grammy-winning artist who has been captivating fans with her music for more than 20 years. Singer Mariah Carey talks to Gayle about the ups and downs of her career and personal life and about her latest album.
Mariah says the road to success wasn't easy. Earlier in her career, she often was unhappy but kept it to herself, she says. "When I was a little depressed inside, I would fake a smile and deal with the side effects," she says. "But nobody knew that--a lot of the worst times were not when people thought they were bad times."
Now, she says she is in a great place in her life. Her single "Touch My Body" has hit the number one spot on the Billboard charts, and Mariah says she's embracing her identity, which she says includes being a little bit of a diva. "I think I'm high maintenance, but I maintain my own self," she says. "It's not just the diva stuff; it's an emotional need that I have to protect myself."
Mariah says she wanted the music on her new album, E=MC², to benefit others. "I wanted to write something that could touch and help people," she says. "I'm inspired by people who take entertainment and try to do something more with it."
Also, here are audio files of Mariah's interviews with NYC's Hot 97's Angie Martinez on April 21st, and Power 105's DJ Clue on April 22nd; and KISS 95.7's Courtney in Hartford, CT on April 22nd.

Another in-studio appearance Mariah made prior to her CD Signing at the Universal City Walk on Thursday, April 17th was at Big Boy's Neighborhood for "Breakfast With Mariah Carey." The show aired yesterday morning on Power 106. Below are excerpts from her interview with hosts Big Boy and Luscious Liz.
Where does your inspiration come from? "I've always loved music. Ever since I was little whatever negative stuff was going on I would just sing, make up songs, just do whatever it took to escape whatever was going on. It's kind of like music, I make it for myself to hear myself but more than that, at this point, I do it for the fans and for the people, like certain songs that might be really personal or whatever, I still put them on the album. I still put a spiritual song on every album just because you mix it in with the hot uptempos and all the other stuff but it's important at this point for me to give a message to inspire other people because there's a lot of people that don't realize that if they're going through a tough time or anything that they can make through it if they keep faith and believe in God and just focus on themselves. So I basically get my inspiration from there."
Does it concern you how fast-paced the music business is? "My approach has always been fast-paced because I think, I'm not trying to take credit or anything, it wasn't even really my plan 'cause I didn't know what I was doing 'cause I was very young when I started putting records out so it was like, 'Make another one, make another one' in a way that was the record company being selfish and me being ignorant to like the game and not going on tour and making the money that people make. This is not a whoo-it's-me. I didn't make my touring money in 1901 [laughs]. We're clearly joking but the point is 'cause back in the day when I first started I didn't know much so I actually became fast-paced from the beginning, and did a record every single year without stopping so I feel like the fast-paced-ness of this isn't what I'm concerned about. It's more like the whole... where the industry was so stupid to allow itself to get sucked up by the internet which is, for the regular people, when I say regular people, people who are not of the industry 'cause I'm in the industry but not of it. What I'm saying is the industry is different for the record companies really and the artists get a little bit screwed by the way things are but it's faster that people get music. It is what it is.
The Mind of Mariah What song do you wish, past, present that it was yours? "I always tell this to Mary, and she always talks to me about 'Vision of Love,' but I love 'Seven Days' by Mary J. Blige."
What's the biggest rumor you heard about yourself? "In what continent? It varies. Like England has their own set of things they love to think that their whole bag is that I'm a diva and that I order red carpets before I go like to walk into the hotel. Who in the ham sandwich wakes up at 4am and it's like, 'Give me the red carpet or I'm not coming in.' They really think I'm like that. I joke and stuff. People take it seriously like, 'Who cares?'"
How about in the States? "I try to stay off with the bloggers and all that nonsense because to me why would you want to bring yourself down every day by reading negativity. It's just like let me know what I need to know and then I'll move on because I have a life."
My Mariah Moment (Fans ask questions) Amanda: I have been a big fan of yours for fourteen years and you've been my inspiration and I want to know who's been yours? "I have to say that people who tell me stuff like that, they inspire me. You inspire me to keep doing what I'm doing, honestly, because I really do put everything into my music. I have to say Stevie Wonder is just incredible and when you meet him it's like he never lets you down. Everytime I meet him, I'm just like, 'Wow, this is the man that created some of the best music ever' and he's still just so amazingly cool and nice - he's just a beautiful spirit. I have to go with him. Aretha Franklin and Patti LaBelle."
Crystal: If you could describe your perfect night in for us? "Yay for the night in first of all 'cause they rarely happen and then sometimes I have to have the nights in that are really bleak. You know, watch a nice movie, have a nice conversation with somebody. What else? [Liz: 'Splash of wine.'] Splash of wine would be okay, perhaps two, maybe three [laughs]."
Rita: Of all the songs you've recorded, which one is your absolute favorite? "That's difficult because like when I'm in this process I feel like I just put this record out, obviously, right today, album in stores. That's the E=MC² so I'm still like in that zone like when I'm in the creative moment, like I kind of get obsessed with what I'm doing. I listen to that constantly. As a songwriter it's hard to say what my favorite song is. There's a song called 'Underneath The Stars' that I always reference from the Daydream album. See Rita that's how I know that you know my music but the record company at that time they didn't understand that that was a good song. Even Brat was like, 'You got to put this song out. Please let her have this song come out' they were just like, 'No, we don't like it. It's too urban'."
During DJ E-man's regular "Mickey-Fickey" Mix at 8:30am, Mariah requested the new R. Kelly remix of 'Touch My Body.' "We got the new remix that Kel did on his own. We didn't plan it. He just heard the song when it went to number one. I heard it. He didn't have the instrumental, he didn't have the a capella. [Liz: 'What was your first reaction when you first heard it? He killed it.'] Yes! I had to be like, 'Can we put this out please?'"
What is that one song that when you hear it, you say, 'I really knocked it out the park'? "You know what's funny, a lot of the stuff I'm like, 'Get it out of here' but then there'll be like a moment when I'm like, 'This was a classic' and I was very excited to have done it like 'Fantasy' with ODB. When they play in the club, I'm still excited. I still feel like that was one of the best things that I ever did because that was the real me being able to be like heard at that point in my life. May he rest in peace. It was just a good collabo. It was unexpected and I have so good memories 'cause back then the only fun I had was making music and videos, everything else was bleakosity."
This Is Your Life (With Da Brat) What is one of Mariah Carey's secret guilty pleasures? Mariah: She might say that I like tea, that I'd like to drink tea. Da Brat: She loves Macaroni and Cheese.
What is the one thing you've seen Mariah Carey get mad about? Mariah: Like controlling people, I don't know what she'd say. Da Brat: People talking about her weight when there ain't nothing wrong with it.
Who would you set up Mariah Carey on a date? Mariah: I don't know. Da Brat: Michael Jordan. Mariah: Of course she says that. That's Chicago.
What's that one thing that gets on Mariah Carey's nerves? Mariah: Maybe she'd say when people wake me up early or something like that. Da Brat: When people who work for her don't do what they're supposed to do.
What has Mariah splurge the most money on other than a house? Mariah: I know what the answer is, it would be like vacation and stuff like that. Da Brat: Shoes. At least 10,000 pairs.
What is the one thing Mariah Carey leaves the house without? Mariah: She might have said lipgloss or iPod. She probably said the iPod and maybe my speakers 'cause she got me some nice speakers. I really get mad when I don't have it. Da Brat: Her iPod and speakers.
If Mariah Carey is out on a raft in the middle of the ocean and in the water is J.D. and Da Brat and Mariah can only save one person. Who do you think Mariah will pull out of the ocean? Mariah: That's horrible. I know she would say herself, of course. Da Brat: I have to say myself. [everyone laughs]

Monday, 21-Apr-2008, 7:20PM EDT | Posted by Liron Mariah's In-Studio Interview with NY's Power 105
Mariah is back home in New York City and made her first stop at the Ed Lover's morning show today on Power 105 after a 4am flight arrival from Los Angeles the night before. She spent the morning talking and joking with the hosts, sipping drinks, and talking about the new CD, her dogs, and some of her career milestones.
-Mariah talked about her dogs Jack and JJ and was surprised that there was "drama" about her wearing a band-aid.
-Mariah talked about the Empire State Building being lit in her signature color of "pink yet lavender" in honor of her CD release. She said she was really excited about it because she'd been looking at the Empire State building all her life.
-She and Ed discussed her appearance on the Oprah show, which Oprah told Mariah was her 7th time on the show. Mariah said Oprah was very nice to her and was great with the new album promotion.
-Jay-Z told Mariah she's the best gift-giver he knows and she promised she has a wedding gift in store for him and Beyonce.
-Mariah said both her Blackerry and iPod broke on the same day, "I was like, this is not my lucky day."
-She spoke highly of T-Pain and said he's a true artist that "knows his ABCs" around a studio.
-Mariah was looking through the album packaging in detail for the first time she said. She joked that she was just now noticing that certain words were wrong.
-Mariah alluded to the new remix for "Bye Bye" with Jay-Z but wouldn't divulge any secrets. "Until it comes out, I don't wanna discuss anything!"
-She said Steve Bartels (president of Island Def Jam) gave her a beautiful new ring as a gift, which she was wearing in the studio. "It was thoughtful!" she said.
-She again laughed off any comparison to Elvis or the Beatles, and said she was more proud of her accomplishments as a female vocalist.
-Mariah discussed the making of "I Stay in Love" that she'd written with Bryan Michael Cox. She says she recorded the vocals in one day, and that the song along with "Love Story" is a favorite of both hers and L.A. Reid's.
-She said that a lot of tracks that don't make it on the album are often her favorites and she hopes they would end up being released. Ed suggested a re-release of the CD and Mariah said: "I would quite enjoy that. it would make me happy".
-Mariah talked about taking care of her voice before a show, and laughed about how her hair and her voice need opposite temperatures to be good. "You have to just balance it out," she said. She said she also drinks a lot of water.
-She discussed writing "Hero" for Gloria Estefan (for the film "Hero" starring Dustin Hoffman) and that she originally never felt a connection with it, since she was thinking of Gloria's key and style. She says she feels good about the song as a writer, even though she "hated" the recording. She also said she didn't want to record a Christmas album at first and credited Tommy Mottola for the idea.
-Mariah said she finished writing I'll Be Lovin You Long Time and ended up not feeling completely satisfied, and said she felt it was missing a certain something, but that it has grown on her.

[Fans scream/clap] Do people do this when you walk to a grocery store? "I will admit that I haven't really walked to a grocery store in a long time. That's sounding diva-ish but honestly I'm just being honest. Whatever. We love going gro... honestly it'll be a fun field trip to go to the grocery store. It's like a festive outing, something to do."
Next time you come in, if we can work it out, we'll make a trip to a grocery store. "Let's just do that! Actually I would rather go to a store where they have the beauty supplies store because you can go and get stuff that you don't see all the time. I'm a beauty school dropout - 500 hours. My haircutting skills are not as good as like the styling of it. And I can do manicures and pedicures and all those stuff."
What TV shows do you watch? "I don't really have much time to watch TV but when I do, when I... now they take off the shows that are my favorite. I loved The Sopranos. I was an avid Soprano watcher, like I was very, very annoyed. The ending to me kept it hopeful especially with the 'Don't Stop Believing' in the background. I hope they can do a movie."
Pets in the house? "Of course! We all know Jack. We know and love Jack. I don't know if you guys have seen the MTV 52/52 thing. So JJ (Jack Junior) is in those. He's featured and Snoop is featured doing his voice which is hilarious and I love Snoop. The fact that he did that I'm like he's the coolest person in the land."
Do you have any annoying neighbors? "No, because I'm my own neighbor [laughs]. Thank God because seriously we have parties on the roof, that's like my main platform, that's the place I love to be. But yes, if you were ever to come to my lair you would definitely be on the roof and even in the winter I'm like, 'let's go on the roof' 'cause that's the reason I bought the house. I live in New York. In New York you don't get to be outside so it's like the roof's space is the main thing of the house. Again, I'll be blasting music up there. I've got the ones and twos up there as well, the turntable's up there.
The art of the high note, how is that possible? "I don't know. Sometimes I just sit there I go, 'Where am I with that? Can I do it if I tried?' Little vocal warm-up and then I'm just like, 'Okay, I could probably hit a note if I had to' but it's all about, honestly, it really is about timing, vocal rest, sleep, all that. My voice doctor lectures and he talks to people about my voice because it's a different kind of thing. My cords, I actually have nodules on them and I have for my whole life and that's why when you hear my speaking voice, it is more low. That's why I can go into the lower register like low, low, low - pretty low. But the [does a high note] is a whole different thing. His whole point is because I have the nodules, I've learned how to sing around them and with them. It's sort of I use a part of the cords when I'm hitting that particular register - the higher, upper register. In this album, I played around with the upper register a lot, the high notes, we'll call them, the background parts and different things I've always done that but back in the day it was pretty much like, 'Oh, you've got to turn the high note down because it's annoying and bla, bla, bla' so that's why we did one of the 52/52 skits, was about the high note like my dog not being able to deal with it. And actually, he does. His ears do go a little haywire [laughs]. Sometimes he'll hear a certain noise. I'm talking about JJ. One time I was belting like hitting a mid-range and I was actually working on this album and Jack was in the studio with me and he started barking along with the note and I couldn't use it obviously but I was like, 'You got to save that just for my own laugh'."
We saw you on American Idol looking hot. Thank you. I haven't seen it yet. I still haven't seen it. I really want to see the show.
You did good. A+ for you. Your thoughts on the performances of the contestants with some of your material "When I did the 'mentoring' thing, that was pretty cool because if I were them I won't want me to do too 'cause I'm not ever gonna be mean to somebody. First of all, I don't like judging people. To me that's like something you're not supposed to do, judge not lest ye be judged, you know. It's kind of like a thing where it's like, 'I don't like that' so I had to tell them treat me like I'm your friend who happens to do this for a living, just-ask-me-anything type of thing and then I gave them my little critiques but in a way that was like whatever. I felt it would be more difficult like for me to sing right here to you like nobody else, that's weird to me. You know what I mean? Rather than being infront of an audience of 50,000 people, the thing is you can be on the stage and it sort of becomes like impersonal thing 'cause you know, when you do big shows, there's so many people. It's not like even dealing with one-on-one which I don't have a problem with but when you're singing and you're not known yet, you're like here being judged by the whole world. I can't just imagine it so I just have to say like, 'Big up to the finalists who put themselves out there like that.' I'm so glad it's not the route I went down. Even if it was, I was like, 'I'm in highschool la-la-la now I'm doing like I'm gonna be poverty-stricken moment, here I am' and then all of a sudden it's like I was on TV shows and people who went to school with me were like, 'What? I didn't even know she sang.' I didn't tell people so it was weird enough to suddenly be on TV but then I can imagine how they must feel so... I thought they did a good job with it when they were one-on-one with me. Even better than I thought they did in their performances. Just as my opinion. I didn't want to say that but I feel they did such a good job just one-on-one. I wish people could have seen that."
The new album which is in stores now. Hit it. "I think this album goes a little bit deeper on some of the songs lyrically. The last song on the album is called 'I Wish You Well' and to me that's one of my best songs that I've ever done because it is an inspirational song and I feel compelled to do songs like that because doing that on an album that has like, you know, songs like 'Touch My Body' and whatever [laughs]. It's good because it's exposing people to something and the message that they may not hear if they're just listening to the regular radio and so I think that's important. It's not trying to be hypocritical like, 'Ooh, on one hand I'm singing something that's like more of a gospel song and on the other hand, I'm singing like, clearly 'Touch My Body' has a lot of jokes in it, let's face reality. Even my pastor was like, 'Okay'."
What's your conversation with your pastor like? He's cool. He's not like too uptight. He's a very cool guy like he actually plays pool and has trophies that he wins up to here. People are like, 'That's not fair. You've got God on your side.' Anyway, the point is I feel really good about this record because it is fun, festive, uptempo, so many great guest-artists on there. Just being able to do this song like 'I Wish You Well' as a last cut on it which actually my pastor who is actually is a Bishop, Clarence Keaton is featured on the song and he ends, the last line of the entire album is spoken by him and it basically is peace so it makes sense. I thought it was an important thing to do. This is definitely the most real of my album. This is me."
What is your most embarrassing moment? "I have many embarrassing moments and I'll definitely not try to relive them. But if anyone were to ask me that, it's fine that you did, Jojo."
Have you milked a cow? "I don't know. Maybe on a school trip.
Do you believe in ghosts or UFOs? "Not really. I believe in spirit."
Do you remember your first celebrity moment? "When I thought I was a celebrity? I was going to the movies and I was standing in a line with my friend. We were in line for a movie in New York and this girl had my song. She had the first single, 'Vision of Love' and her friend was asking her, 'What are you listening to?' and she said the name of the song and she said my name and she was like trying to explain what I look like. I'm standing right behind her [laughs]. I don't think I've ever told that story before but that's the truth."
Mariah, number one tonight is your track "Bye Bye." It's doing well obviously. The album is out in stores. Say a couple of things about the album. "I think the main thing about this album is it's got ballads, it's got songs that are uplifting or meant to be uplifting - expressing who I am. Basically all the uptempo songs again there's always a little touch of me and a little wink and a smile with it. Today we're talking with someone about 'Migrate' and they were like, 'Yeah, that's the song when you get them to go out.' Basically that's every uptempo I have. That's my inspiration. I think that's this album is a good-time record with a little bit extra added."
Below are pictures from Mariah's visit to Chicago's B96 on Monday, April 14th. The B96 staff surprised Mariah with a cake and balloons to celebrate her 18th #1 and the release of her new album, E=MC².

Friday, 18-Apr-2008, 6:44AM EDT | Posted by Liron Mariah's Radio Interview with Billy Bush
Billy Bush: The new album drops today, E=MC², the single "Touch My Body" is #1 in America, it is her 18th #1 single, she has unseated Elvis Presley. Do you keep your eye on that type of thing? I mean, the Beatles have 20. Do you want to take them down? Is that sort of a personal goal of yours?
Mariah Carey: Noooo. Please, no way. It's the Beatles. They changed the world. It's so not about "oh I think I'm in his category." First of all, we're dealing with legends who don't even really make records anymore.
BB: We're also dealing with men. Do you feel this accomplishment as a woman? Like, wow.
MC: Yeah, thank you! Thank you, Billy Bush, for saying that! Why can't they just say that? When someone put it this way the other day, they were like "Okay, you are the solo artist, bar none, with the biggest amount of #1s". That's when I was like wow, that's bizarre.
BB: Okay, let's talk about "Touch My Body." (MC comments: You know those are my favorite colors.) You have a great body, you're exercising all the time, you look fantastic.
MC: Well if you say that, then I guess it's true.
BB: Who gets to [touch your body]?
MC: Uh, I'm -- what's that thing that you say? What was that old like third grade thing? Mind your own beeswax? [laughs] Mind your own beeswax, Billy!
BB: You can't say mind your own beeswax! No, no, no. We go way too far back. I wanna know, who's in your wheel house? who are you dating?
MC: We go back like babies with pacifiers. Oh darling, who are you dating?
BB: I am dating my wife of ten years. I think you are dating. The way I hear it is some record executive type of person.
MC: No...
BB: C'mon, tell me who you are dating. Don't play mysterious with me.
MC: Billy, don't be a hero! Don't be a fool with your life!
BB: You won't give me anything? You're not going to tell me anything?
MC: What do you want to know? Listen, here's what I am going to tell you...
BB: Is there a good man in your corner?
MC: Yes. But the thing is I'm very -- like I have so little privacy. Honestly, any relationship has to be private. I mean it's bad enough, people that are my friends have to constantly be like "no, she's not a b*tch, or no, she's not this or that" and it's annoying. That's just me being the way that I am. But honestly, I feel like until I get married, I don't think it's appropriate for me to discuss my personal life. My main thing is until I get until married, that's how I am -- if I get married. If I don't, then we won't be discussing my personal life, at all!
BB: Alright, let me ask you, last personal question. Do you have a desire -- I mean you have 18 number one singles, the Beatles have 20, your career is hot right now, so it's hard to take your eye off your career, but what about things like motherhood? Do you have that desire to be a mom?
MC: Everybody who knows me is like "you have to be a mom!" If I do become a mother, it would be because I am in love with somebody.
BB: Mariah, because of your faith, would you have to be married, in order to have a child with someone?
MC: Yeah, I would have to be married. At this point in my life, just trying to not be a complete hypocrite, I think that I would have to be married, yes.
BB: Last question: that band-aid. What happened to you?
MC:[gasps] A band-aid! Dum dum dum!
BB: Band-aid means injury. Injury means drama.
MC: Basically what happened was, JJ is just a bab-ay and he doesn't understand that I am the mama and I can take his food away from him whenever I want. So, I had to take his food away from him for a reason and he went [growls]. You know, he does it to everybody, anybody who approaches him, he can't see, and then he realized it was me and went "uh-oh!"
BB: It's a dog bite. Now I gotta let you go cause you gotta move on in your schedule. I wanna say thank you so much for coming in, Mariah Carey, she has got a huge album in stores today, pick it up, it's E=MC². First single, "Touch My Body" is her 18th number one, it's a tremendous accomplishment. You look hot as fire! You look good, thank you so much for sitting here.
MC: Thank you!

The following day, April 16th, Billy Bush interviewed famous producer David Foster (who worked with Mariah on the songs "There For Me" and "After Tonight") who had nothing but good things to say about Mariah;
David Foster: Mariah is hot in every way. You combine that beautiful face with a hot body and great talent and great singing and let's not forget, everybody forgets, she is a great songwriter. Not good, but great. [...]
I worked with her a little bit, not extensively, but I worked with her a little bit. She's a pro, she knows her way around the studio, and a lot of artists, you know, they wanna be a co-producer just because they can be. Mariah really is a co-producer. She's in there for every note, and I applaud her. I think she's amazing.
Billy Bush then added that he thinks Mariah is one of the nicest celebrities and that he really likes her as a person.

She also mentioned that in order to wake her up, someone would first have to hand her something cold to drink or some fruits to eat. At the end of the interview, Mariah gave a message to her French fans.

Monday, 14-Apr-2008, 7:52PM EDT | Posted by Liron Mariah's In-Studio Interview with Chicago's B96
Earlier today, Mariah came to the B96 studios in Chicago and talked to DJs Stylz and Roman. After a funny mishap where Mariah spilled her wine in the studio (and almost ruined the station's director and longtime friend of Mariah's Erik Bradley's phone), she settled in and gave a quick interview infused with good-natured Mariah jokes. Mariah also brought in decorations and pink and lavender balloons to brighten up the studio.
The DJs played "Touch My Body" and "Bye Bye" before Mariah apologized for having to run out and catch a plane to LA.
Other highlights from the interview include:
Mariah talked about her special relationship with the fans: "They bring me up when I'm down." The DJs brought up the subject of Mariah retiring, leading Mariah to say she would never retire because she loves music. She discussed that the music part of her life is not a "job" to her -- it is the other aspects of the business that take work. She also revealed another inside joke, using her new catch-phrase "JTL", meaning "job long time": after her hairdresser assured her that she "had job long time", she nearly fried her hair. Mariah discussed the writing process of her songs, as well as collaborations on the new album. She wished rapper and friend Da Brat a happy birthday. She discussed singing in foreign languages on the track "OOC" and how she wasn't allowed to take a foreign language class in high school because she needed to take remedial math instead. She talked about the album title and how everyone asks her for the "deeper" meaning of the title and she laughed that "there isn't one!" Mariah said that "Bye Bye" was especially important to her and her friend (and co-writer) Maryann Tatum. She mentioned that it was a difficult song to sing because your throat closes up when you become emotional. Mariah joked about her spilling her drink and pretended to spill water on the equipment at the end of the interview. "Oh no! I'm just gonna abuse every DJ in the land!" she laughed.
Tune in tomorrow to B96 at 9:00am Central Time (repeat at 6:00pm) for the Mariah Mania special (a countdown of top 10 Mariah songs as voted by fans), hosted by Mariah herself.

Wednesday, 26-Mar-2008, 4:26PM EDT | Posted by Liron Mariah Calls In Stations In Tucson and San Diego
Mariah called in two more radio stations today to talk about "Touch My Body" and the upcoming album release.
98.3 Tucson, Arizona Mariah talked about her anniversary tomorrow and said she has to work but at least she'll be in a nice climate but didn't reveal where she would be. Mariah joked about not wanting the album to be released on April 15th because it's the day taxes are due in the US. She also joked about being a bad driver and that she needs to learn how to drive a stick shift. The DJs tried convincing Mariah to come to their newly built studio in Tucson but Mariah wasn't sure if she had time for it since she is going to Europe soon (she mentioned going to Germany). She said it's up to the label but perhaps she could stop there on her way to Los Angeles where she has to record "American Idol". She also mentioned she would be on vocal rest prior to it. The DJs then called their boss Fred who had a birthday and Mariah sang "Happy Birthday" and "Happy Anniversary" to him on the phone.

Wednesday, 26-Mar-2008, 1:32PM EDT | Posted by Liron Mariah Calls In To Arizona's Johnjay and Rich Show
Soon after her B96 interview, Mariah called in to the Johnjay and Rich morning show which is aired live on Tucson's KRQ 93.7 and on 104.7 in Phoenix. Mariah discussed the following things:
--Waking up to having her song at #1 on iTunes was a wonderful thing for her.
--Mariah talked about working with Brett Ratner, her "aries brother", on the "Touch My Body" video and mentioned that they also worked together on "Heartbreaker" and "I Still Believe". Regarding the "Touch My Body" video, Mariah said her favorite outfit was the school-girl one and that she's very bad at playing the Frisbee which led to her getting hit in the nose by it.
--Jermaine Dupri told Mariah on the phone that when "Touch My Body" reaches #1, he'll do something on top of his desk and film it for YouTube.
--The next single will be a ballad. Mariah said it's the track she worked on with Stargate and Johntha Austen and that it's an emotional ballad that people cry when they hear it but it's also a current song. From previous reports about the album, it appears to be that Bye Bye is the second single. Mariah said they are working on a remix for it now.
--Mariah said that "Migrate" is one of the words she uses in her everyday "lingo" and her friends suggested she'd use it in a song. She said many of the album tracks are festive and fun while others are personal.
--Mariah talked about TV appearances making her nervous and said she prefers doing shows for her fans on a tour.

Wednesday, 26-Mar-2008, 11:53AM EDT | Posted by Liron Mariah Calls In To Chicago's B96
Mariah called in to the Eddie & Jobo morning show on Chicago's B96 and spoke to them for about 25 minutes. Here are some interesting bits from the interview:
--Lee Daniels, producer of "Tennessee" had just called Mariah on her blackberry. She put him on with the DJs and he said how excited he was about Mariah's performance in the film. Mariah also discussed her appearance in the film "Push" which is based on a movie by the same title that she had read awhile ago.
--Mariah said how excited and happy she was that "Touch My Body" reached #1 on iTunes. She said she woke up today to hear this news and is grateful to her real fans for helping to make it happen.
--Both Jack and J.J, Mariah's Russell Terriers are doing well! Jack likes to stay at home and watch T.V while J.J was just filming a skit with Mariah for MTV's 52/52 which is supposed to be hilarious.
--Mariah told the DJs how excited she was about having her new home on an island now. The location, she said, would be given "off air".
--The DJs brought up Britney's budget and Mariah said she thinks people are too hard on her. The DJs then asked her "how much does it cost to be Mariah Carey on a weekly basis?" Mariah replied: "too darn much."
--Mariah said she was too busy working on E=MC² and hasn't had a chance to look at either the "Parade" article or the new Maxim picture.
--"Side Effects" is a personal song on the new album that Mariah wrote with Cri$tyle Johnson. The song talks about Mariah's hardships and she thinks many people will be able to relate to it. She quoted the following lyrics from the song:
Kept my tears inside cause I knew if I Started I'd keep cryin for the rest of my Life with you I finally built up the strength To walk away don't regret it But I still live with the side effects
In addition to Cri$tyle, Mariah also talked about writing with another female writer, her close friend Da Brat, on the song "O.O.C".
--Mariah talked about her experience of meeting Aretha Franklin whom she considers an amazing person and one of the greatest singers ever. She even did a short and funny imitation of Aretha.

Tuesday, 25-Mar-2008, 12:01AM EDT | Posted by Lynn Mariah In-Studio Live at Big Boy's Neighborhood
It was "Mariah Monday" on Big Boy's Neighborhood morning show March 24, 2008. Mariah was live in the Los Angeles studio talking about her upcoming album, E=MC² and new single, "Touch My Body." She also played "Rumor or Real" with DJs Big Boy and Luscious Liz. Below are excerpts from the interview.
When it comes to just the way the business is now, what do you think when you put out an album, when you put out a single, with the years of experience that Mariah Carey has, what gives you that feeling like, 'Man, people still come to Mariah Carey' when there's so many so-called choices out there and people are into just those the microwave hits? You know, I just try to, like with this new album, I just try to do the best I could. I was like, 'Let me just follow-up from where I was at with The Emancipation of Mimi and keep it festive, keep it fun. Me and Brat actually wrote one of my favorite songs on the record called 'OOC' (Out Of Control). Swizz Beatz did the track and it was just fun to write with her, over here she's being modest. (Big Boy to Da Brat: 'Don't be modest in here now!' Da Brat: 'I don't want my ankle bracelet to go off.' Big Boy: 'Do they know you're here?' [laughter in the studio])
Is there any time that you'd like to say, 'When I get some time-off every seven years this is what I'd like to do'? Yes. I'd like to be with friends if I can. We try to have festive times. Actually I do like to go to Disney World. I'm not trying to endorse nobody but I do love Disney because we do like to go on the Tower of Terror.
"Rumor or Real" When it came to Saturday Night Live, you coming in from nowhere kind of, doing the thing, rumor or real that Da Brat poisoned Janet Jackson? [laughter in the studio] [Laughs] I don't know what happened honestly. I know Brat didn't do anything like that but I don't know. Honestly, I was like, 'Okay, they wanted me to fill in I guess so hey. That Brat poisoned her? Yeah, I would say that's a rumor.
When it comes to tracks, do you get first pick when it comes to like JD [Jermaine Dupri] tracks? We create the tracks together like I go to ATL [Atlanta], and we would sit there and be like 'what kind of track do we wanna do?' That's how we've done since "Always Be My Baby," that's the first song we ever wrote together so that's how it is. I think that's why our work together is different from some of his work with other singers.
Break down the E=MC². I heard that Einstein is like a great, great grandfather of yours? Of course, can't you tell? I think the whole world knows that I'm noted for my mathematical prowess. [laughs] Clearly, I don't consider myself Einstein like it's a joke hello so the point was like Emancipation equals Mariah Carey the second power. Basically, it was kind of like part two of the Mimi experience.

Monday, 17-Mar-2008, 1:05PM EDT | Posted by Liron Mariah's In-Studio Interview With Ryan Seacrest
Mariah was a studio guest today on Ryan Seacrest's show on KIIS 102.7 FM in Los Angeles. She was in the studio from approximately 8:35 AM for about 40 minutes and talked to Ryan about some interesting facts such as:
Mariah was running late, so she called Ryan from her car (at about 8:25 AM) to say she was on her way. While on the phone, she mentioned sending her mom some bagpipes last night for St. Patrick's Day because her mom wasn't coming for the parade in New York this year. She also said she would have left for Los Angeles last night but there was some issue with the plane's door.
[ Listen to Mariah calling from her car below. Click here to download. ]
She was nervous during the live performance of "Touch My Body" at Saturday Night Live and wasn't pleased with it. Ryan said he loved it (we loved it too, Mariah!)
She finished sequencing the album last night in L.A. Reid's office.
She misses working with Randy Jackson, whom she says is a great musician and a great guy.
She will be on American Idol three times: April 9th (Idol Gives Back), April 15th (mentoring the contestants) and April 16th (performance). Ryan said she will get to really work with the contestants and Mariah said she was excited about it.
"Migrate" will not be the second single from the album, but rather a ballad.
She said she'll have a tour for the album hopefully in September. She wanted to do it in August but didn't think she'd be ready by then.
Ryan played a clip from his interview with Judd Apatow, writer of "You Don't Mess With The Zohan," in which Judd discussed Mariah's cameo appearance in the film. Mariah mentioned she loved "Knocked Up," enjoyed working with Judd and that she thinks the film will be hilarious.
Ryan put Perez Hilton on the line and Mariah told him she loves him and that the reason she did "Migrate" was because her DJ friends in New York were asking her about it for a long time. She said she usually hates doing songs live for the first time because it's hard to get into them that way and that she will send Perez the real version of the song (don't! send it to us, Mariah!).
Mariah said there is absolutely no drama between her and Madonna nor between her and Janet Jackson.
During the interview, Mariah, who was lots of fun as usual, sang bits from "Touch My Body," "All I Want For Christmas Is You" and even "Rumors" (the song by Timex Social Club).

Monday, 17-Mar-2008, 12:59AM EDT | Posted by Lynn Mariah Calls In To Open House Party
Earlier tonight, Mariah spoke briefly with DJ Kane of Open House Party to promote her new album, E=MC². Find the full transcript of the call below.
Kane: Good evening. How are you, beautiful? Mariah: Good evening, Kane. I'm good, gorgeous. How are you, darling? Kane: I'm good. The last time I talked to you, you were, I think you were working on another project. I think it was the perfume. Mariah: It was the perfume and now we have the new golden edition version of the perfume that just came out. Kane: No shortage of work for you ever, is it Mariah? Mariah: You know, I try to keep the lights on.
Kane:E=MC² is the new CD and of course, "Touch My Body" is a beautiful, dirty song I love. Mariah: It's not dirty. I wouldn't write something dirty. It's a joke, joke. Kane: Okay. How would you describe it then? Mariah: You know what? It is just a little sexy moment but you know that's only so far I would go. I'm basically Mary Poppins. Kane: Well, you're a classy woman, Mariah. Mariah: Thank you, darling.
Kane: I wouldn't expect you to be unclassy so I'll play "Touch My Body." Tell me how the track came together and we'll talk about the 'camera up in here' and what you're gonna do with your legs and all that classy stuff. Mariah: Okay. Well, basically Tricky and Dream in the studio and Dream started to sing all these things like with 'the camera up in here' and all that stuff but... he was talking about it like from a guy's kind of perspective and I was like, 'Wait a minute, no' like I have to turn this around. Actually I finished writing the record with a friend of mine, Cristyle John
