Sunday, 28-Jun-2009, 2:43AM EDT | Posted by Lynn MDJ Special: Goodbye Michael Jackson
Like the rest of the world, we here at MariahDaily.com are shocked and saddened by the untimely passing of Michael Jackson. As a last farewell, we wanted to share some of Mariah's work that was directly or indirectly related to Michael Jackson - from her memorable #1 cover of the Jackson 5's "I'll Be There" at her 1992 MTV Unplugged concert to her appearance in Michael's fundraising concert in Korea in 1999 and her participation in "What More Can I Give?" the 2001 charity single written and produced by Michael. "I'm That Chick," one of the songs from Mariah's last album, E=MC² samples from Michael's 1980 single "Off The Wall" and even directly uses some of the lyrics from the bridge: "There ain't no rules, it's up to you!"
Mariah's Introduction of Inductee Patti LaBelle "I stand here on the Apollo stage, a stage where through the years you have given stellar performance after stellar performance in a way that is uniquely you. You have become the benchmark by which singing is judged. You are a headliner's headliner, after all who would be crazy enough to follow you.
We thank you for sharing your gift with us and I am personally so honored to know you. I thank you for always, always sharing your gift of love and friendship with me. Ladies and gentlemen, the incomparable... please give a warm welcome to the newest member of the legends of the Apollo Legends Hall of Fame... Patti LaBelle!"
Related News Article: Mariah, Quincy, Cosbys, Jamie Foxx Toast the Apollo (Showbiz 411) It was Prince who stole the pre-dinner show because he was a well kept secret. He appeared on stage without any announcement after the band played a minute or so of soft jazz. He wore what looked like orange silk pajamas. He brandished his diamond walking stick. The audience roared with delight. He spoke softly, as usual. It's the most I've ever heard him say cogently in public.
"Patti LaBelle is my mother, sister, teacher, my cook," he said in a Marilyn Monroe-esque whisper. "She's taught me so much, she helps my guitar playing. I make my guitar sound like her voice."
Then Prince said he had a friend in the wings to help introduce LaBelle, but the friend wouldn't come out when he motioned to him/her. So he went back there to fish the person out. Suddenly, a professional announcer's voice boomed, "Ladies and Gentlemen, Miss Mariah Carey."
Mariah, sexy and celebratory, not looking at all like the pepperpot described in Monday's Page Six, appeared at the microphone and said Patti was her "godmother." "You have become the benchmark for which singing is judged," Mariah said in a much clear voice than Prince,. "a headliner's headliner."

On Whitney's Return: "Honestly, I haven't had any, I haven't spoken to her in a long time. I'm sure whatever she does is gonna be brilliant."
On Lee Daniels/Tennessee: Mariah: "I learned how to deal with him cracking the whip." Lee: "And I learned how to deal with her slinging her hair." Mariah: "No, I didn't sling my hair!" Lee: "Because she didn't sling her hair. Exactly."
Mariah: "We've been in this whole world when we just got back from Cannes for another film that we did together after 'Tennessee' called 'Precious' and we're just like in a frenzy of that so it feels like 'Tennessee' was so long ago." Lee: "I told her, I said that 'People are just thinking that you're really, really incredible in this character' and she goes [makes faces]." Mariah: "No, it does feel great to see some of the great reviews that I've been reading and..." Lee: "You deserve them, honey." Mariah: "Thank you, darling. See that's my biggest review here because he is tough but he is tough because he wants the work to be great. And the thing is, we have a very strong connection so when we work together, even when as a producer or director, we connect and I just can't help but ask him, 'what do you think?' no matter what's going on with the situation."
Monday, 01-Jun-2009, 7:56AM EDT | Posted by Lynn MDJ Special: Your Favorite Mariah Moments Part II
MariahDaily.com concludes its 11th-year Anniversary celebration with the final set of your favorite Mariah moments. Thank you once again for your loyalty and continued support of Mariah and the site. And here's hoping for more years of MariahDaily.com!
"Close My Eyes" on The Rosie O'Donnell Show, 1998 JANEL - I have been a Mariah fan since 1990. I have collected many things and have always loved her music. It has been like my life story. I was able to meet Mariah a few times and the very first time I saw her in concert was December 1993 in Philadelphia for the Music Box tour! One of my favorite performances was When she sang Close My Eyes on Rosie and her performance on Saturday Night Live. That was also the first time I met her. She was so kind and I spent over an hour with her! It was true and genuine. Mariah is amazing and one of a kind! There are way too many events to pick from. Mariah has always been kind to me and she is amazing.
VH1 Special: "What It's Like: Mariah Around The World", 2002 DEREK - This is Derek from China. One of my favorite MC moments has to be the Mariah VH1 special where she sang with the piano man at that Italian hotel club. She was so free and funny yet sounds perfect singing those ad-libs and then the interactions with the two ladies there... that's why I love her so much and I can watch that whole special over and over again and it still brings a smile on my face.
Billboard's Artist of the Decade Acceptance Speech, 1999 CAN - This is one of my favorite Mariah moments ever as it was more like a declaration of freedom and an outburst than a typical award show speech giving every lamb and everyone out there goosebumps everytime they listen to it. Why it has made such an effect on us I think is because of the way she stood up for herself and her deserved freedom which of course disturbed some people in that time. As she told people to forget about everyhing (ensembles, short skirts, big hair, whatever!) but focus on the success that no one has ever been able to top yet and owing this to fans with their unmatched support, this made its place in history as the ultimate "proud to be a lamb" moment.
RAD - Hey! My favorite Mariah moment ever is her Artist of the Decade acceptance speech! She was so real and so honest... I really loved this part of her career!
DANIELLE - My fave moment is when she gives her speech when she receives her Artist of the Decade award. Very touching. Lil emotion, lil emotion!
American Music Award Acceptance Speech 2000 YANN - One of my favorites is the acceptance speech at American Music Awards 2000 with Olivia Newton-John when Mariah gave a big moment to these two little girls who made their wishes. That showed the simplicity and the generosity of Mariah, that was a TRUE MOMENT!
MTV Cribs, 2002 CHARICEA - My favorite Mimi moment is when she was on Cribs, and she got to the kitchen and Jack and Willie were fighting. Jack jumped up and bit the cat's tail, pulling him down literally. I was trippin', that was so hilarious. I laughed for hours. Jack, he's such a cute dog. I wish I could be there to see Jack and Willie fight everyday. Mariah kept trying to separate them to keep them from playing. It looked more like they were fighting, I don't know, it was just funny though. LOL.
The Oprah Winfrey Show, 2002 SHILOH - My favorite televised Mariah moment would have to be during Oprah 2002. I met Mariah in Chicago, at a Meet and Greet, in October 2002. As a gift, I gave her a butterfly necklace. When I tuned into Oprah for her appearance, I saw that Mariah was actually wearing the necklace I bought her. I was deeply touched and happy that she liked my gift enough to wear it on national television!
BET Christmas Special, 2001 ART - I have been a true and solid follower of this site since it started. It's made me have a close connection and it has been a part of my everyday life; without it I would not feel connected to our idol Mariah, and for that I am entirely grateful to everyone who makes this site such an amazing place to visit. One of the best memories I have had about Mariah and MariahDaily was the thorough update on the Christmas Special she did for BET in 2001. It was very soon after the bad publicity of Glitter, and Mariah had begun to overcome all the obstacles of the media. She wore a red dress and performed One Sweet Day with Boys II Men as well as other Christmas songs. Mariah also sent me a personalized note that night!
"Last Night a DJ Saved My Life" at VH1's Vogue Fashion Awards, 2001 CARL - I can't even pinpoint whether it's Mariah on the motorcycle or just her ensemble, but I have always loved this performance!
"Heartbreaker," The Making Of, 1999 KEVON - The "Making Of" of Heartbreaker where the stand-in gets upset at them throwing popcorn at her and storms off is hilarious!
Fantasy Live at Madison Square Garden, 1995 DANNY - It's hard to choose just one favorite Mariah moment, but if I had to pick the one concert I've watched more than any other it would be the 1995 "Fantasy" special at Madison Square Garden. At the very beginning you only hear Mariah doing some incredible falsetto runs as the crowd goes wild, and then the camera pans up from behind her with spotlights surrounding her on every angle. Then performance after performance, she delivers her best live vocals combined with the most energetic and enthusiastic stage presence. Even though Mariah was going through difficult personal times that year, she looked so free and vibrant, and channeled the crowd's energy to put on the best show she could. In some ways, I feel this was her first emancipating moment because it was a fun side of Mariah that was rarely seen. I think it was also the first time the world realized Mariah was not just a girl who could sing big ballads, but also a great performer who could sell out stadiums.
Kapil's video of favorite Mariah moments KAPIL - I know you asked for our favorite individual moments, but this is a video I made a while back entitled "The Moments Of Mimi" that combines some of my favorite MC moments from her start to The Emancipation of Mimi era.
We would also like to announce the winner of our Anniversary Twitter contest. @danielleMCC327 has been randomly selected as the lucky @MariahDaily follower to win a signed Mariah item. Danielle, please e-mail us at contact@mariahdaily.com with your mailing address. Congratulations!

Saturday, 30-May-2009, 1:12PM EDT | Posted by Lynn Mariah Plays Snippets from New Album on AT40
Earlier this morning, Nick Cannon who filled in for regular host Ryan Seacrest on American Top 40 had his wife Mariah Carey on the phone for an interview. During the interview, Mariah played 2-second snippets of songs from her new album, Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel. Listen below!
Mariah also talked about the concept of her new album. She says, "The name of the new album which I'm still finishing is Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel. It's basically every song tells its own little story for some people to relate to. I feel it's for everybody but in a lot of ways some of the songs are very woman empowerment moment. I tell stories so it's not just like, 'Okay, this is a real life moment' 'cause some of the people might be like, 'She really did that?' And it means nobody is perfect and nobody is an angel. We're just all regular human beings. Certainly I'm not perfect so I'm just telling things from my regular point of view like the perspective of a woman."

Mariah performs "Dreamlover" in this video clip from her show at the Mardan Palace in Turkey on Saturday, May 23, 2009.

More video footage from Mariah's appearance in Antalya, Turkey for the grand opening of Mardan Palace. The AE&A video below briefly shows Mariah performing "My All" (Dance Remix) and "Touch My Body."
And here's another video clip of Mariah interviewing on the red carpet at Turkey's Mardan Palace grand opening reception on Saturday, May 23, 2009. In this video, courtesy of UK's Malton Mercury, Mariah talks about her new movie Precious, and what she looks forward to the rest of this year!
"I've done some other independent films and this is the first one that's really become... we won three awards at Sundance, it's been a fantastic ride so I'm looking forward to the rest of the year. I am in the middle of finishing my album and I should be home doing that right now but I'm here at this fabulous event so as soon as we're done with that, I will be home finishing up and have a single coming out really soon."
Congratulations. What a great movie. It's very touching and we can feel it in the audience when they see, and when they come out. Did you find it, when you saw the final cut of that, moving? Thank you. You know it's been such a journey with Lee (director Daniels) because I went from a fan of the book which I read way before I ever knew Lee and that changed my life. And then having Lee offer me the part of Miss Weiss was like, 'Wow, how are we gonna do this?' And just stripping everything down and going the complete opposite and intentionally trying to be drab and you know putting the dark circles under the eyes and doing all that stuff in this flourescent office world we lived in. And living that moment, acting that moment and then watching it evolve like Lee showed me various cuts of the movie and I was just, I'm just so proud of him 'cause he lived and breathed that movie.
You know when I see the scenes where you are in, it almost feels like you're naked. Was that the same for you? To be without the make-up, without the other Mariah Carey. Not really. I think I look better naked than I look in that movie actually in real life [laughs]. I hope to God. But you know, it is what it is. And it was great for me because it helped me as a human being and as a creative person, to get past all the other stuff and just go in and really say, 'Okay, I am going to be true to the character and to what my job is to serve this material.'
The Cannes Film Festival's official sidebar, Un Certain Regard, has announced its results. Precious, directed by Lee Daniels and starring Mariah Carey, Lenny Kravitz and Mo'Nique, failed to scoop an award, despite tremendous praise for its handling of its subject matter and performances. Nick Cannon was kind enough to answer fan requests and upload the video he made as a gift to Mariah for their anniversary.
The video is set to the song "Love Story" from Mariah's album E=MC² and features footage of the couple in various happy moments of their life together including Mariah's anniversary party (2008), the "Bye Bye" music video shoot, Nick's marriage proposal to Mariah and Nick getting the "Mariah" tattoo on his back.
The video also shows Mariah singing "Love Story", footage that was likely shot when the song was intended to be released as a single.
The full video, which Nick titled "The Official Love Story Video" can be seen below. Nick first presented the video to Mariah at their first wedding anniversary celebrations at Moon Nightclub in Las Vegas on April 30, 2009.

Jimmy: One of my favorite Mariah moments was in 2004 at Disney World during the taping of Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, she came on stage and waved to everyone, as she was taking pictures with Mickey Mouse, she started going back to the stage, and when she was right next to me I screamed "I love you Mariah", she looked right at me, waved and said "I Love you too!" Mariah is the best and I wish her the happiest anniversary ever!!
Luis: A favorite moment of mine off the top of my head: There was an interview with AJ, I don't recall the name of the show, but he was giving her words and then she had to comment on them or to answer with one word as well. He says "Glitter" and then she says "Dust!" Priceless!

Bartsey: One of the most amazing performances of Mariah Carey was her Grammy 2006 We Belong Together/Fly Like a Bird medley.. I remember that very moment, it was like MC's redemption in a way.. I like the performance so much because every element (the choir, the pastor, the cleavage, the dress, the hair extensions, the bejeweled mic) that made MC who she is today is in that performance, but more importantly it became meaningful because MC sang it with conviction & so much determination. Based on what Teri Hatcher said, she could've really saved us all with that performance.
Diego: My favorite live performance was Rainbow (Interlude) live at Teleshow Argentina, 'cause it was the first time I ever saw Mariah live... and soo close.. soo close, she literally hugged some of the first row fans. Not me, but still it was one of the happiest moments of my life. So close.. omg.. i was cryin, laughin. etc.. :)
Robert: Mariah's "Turkey or ham" moment is one of my favs because I have never seen her laugh so hysterically! And any moments with Bianca is a top in my moment book too.
Salim: I like this Mariah moment, because it corresponds to the vision which I make of a true diva. A powerful voice, an innocent look and a song which transmits a message. This live performance is not perfect but it's very nice for the eyes and ears. A big Bonjour for the Mariah Daily website!

Nick: This is the most amazing person in the world and I dedicate my life to her daily and I truly love her from the bottom of my heart. She's my rock, she's my foundation, and together this union is gonna last forever. And as she always says for the haters, we just wanna shake them off. Mariah: We shake off the haters but we love everybody in this room and we thank you for being here to celebrate the one year anniversary of our wedding union!
Nick: So here - here's the knife, my love, you need it to cut the cake. We said we were gonna have a moment but before... Mariah: Sorry, knives scare me.
Nick: So we gon' do it like this. We got our family, we got our friends here, we got our extended family - you all, the YouTube people, I know this is going to be a YouTube moment, we love you on YouTube. Mariah:sings "YouTube..."
Nick: So we gon' do it like this. Before I actually have another present. We've been exchanging gifts all day long, but as we cut the cake and we're having this moment, I got a present that you don't know about, actually no one knows about, my mother... Mariah: Can I give somebody this knife 'cause I'm not holding it.
Nick: We're gonna need it to cut the cake, but I got a present for you that I've been working, you might have forgotten about it, we were actually working on it together, and then I went and did my own thing so hopefully you won't be mad at me after you see this, but I have a present for you and I'mma share it with the rest of the world, because sometimes you know, I'm just trying to invite everybody in to our journey and to our love story, so if everybody could focus your attention, we're ready, this is my last gift for the evening I have for you, check this out.
