Monday, 30-Jun-2008, 7:18PM EDT | Posted by Lynn On The Cover Additions: Magazines from 1991
Our On The Cover section has been updated with three magazines from 1991. Check them out below. More magazines will be added in the coming days, stay tuned!
Q (UK) - September 1991 Mariah Carey For her second album, The Wind (released in September and trailered by a new single, Emotions), co-writer Ben Margulies has been sidelined, as have the host of studio wizards. Now it's just down to Mariah and two producers/co-writers - one for the dance tunes, the other for the ballads - as this self-confessed "introverted person" copes with the stardom so recently thrust upon her.
"When you start believing the hype, that's when you go downhill. I definitely feel the same person I was two years ago when no one wanted to listen to my tape. That's what keeps me grounded. Maybe because I'm doing the same thing, music - that's what gives me the most pleasure. The rush of being new and hot can fade - it will fade - but the music will always be there."
Music - 1991 Mariah Carey: Emotions The solidly groove of the smash title track has already slithered its way up the charts, with the Grammy-winning singer showing off every note of her magnificent multi-octave voice. She's in similarly perfect form on such moving ballads as So Blessed, while her purring adds sensual beauty to smoky night-club crooners like And You Don't Remember. But don't think you can just sit there--the energetic vibe of danceable tracks like Make It Happen and You're So Cold will positively drag you from your seat!
Mariah's more than just another pretty voice, of course. She's further developed her remarkably mature writing skills (check out The Wind and To Be Around You) and this time around, she's even co-produced the set...in tandem with groove wizards Robert Clivilles and David Cole (of C + C Music Factory fame).

MARIAH CAREY & DA BRAT Carey's April 30 nuptials to Nick Cannon were mostly attended by people "to do my hair and help me with the dress," she has said, but one of her pals who made the cut was longtime BFF Da Brat (who helped the singer write the lyrics to 1995 hit "Always Be My Baby)

Saturday, 28-Jun-2008, 7:22PM EDT | Posted by Lynn Video: Part II - Mariah's Interview with Sunrise, Australia
Here is Part 2 of Sunrise entertainment reporter James Tobin's interview with Mariah in Tokyo, Japan that aired on The Morning Show, Australia on Monday, June 9th.
Excerpts from the Interview: James Tobin: You always look amazing you may use a bit of fairly small outfits quite often, is this Mariah Carey saying, 'This is me, this is who I am, take it or leave it?' Mariah Carey: I've always been that way though. I mean, there's pictures of me when I'm six years old on the beach laying there like emulating I don't know who I thought I was in the pose but I have this in actually my beach house, I have this picture from when I was literally six, I don't know it's just a very like over-the-top dramatic little girl in the bikini laying on the beach. They should have gotten a hint back then. It just so happens that I guess that's like my favorite little pose [laughs].
JT: Your mom is an opera singer, what did music mean to you back when you were 3 or 6 years old? MC: Music has always meant like the opposite of bleakness.
JT: You told me about having fun and laughing at yourself. One of the greatest things I've seen for a while was your pitch at the baseball in Japan. The best thing about that was that you turned around afterwards and you laughed at the situation. MC: I have to. How could you not? Everyone else did [laughs]. People should be happy that it went the right direction. When we were practicing, it actually went to the right at one point and I actually made a basket on the side with the baseball. Impressive now.

"It's exciting and it's fun and he's just one of the best people like the best person I've ever met. He's a very considerate kind of person but he's really funny too. That's his job, part of his job, you know, he's an actor and he's also a great comedian so it's like, we just have fun and joke around all the time. It's nice."
"He was filming it, filming the moment of giving me like this cute stuff like Hello Kitty candies and Tinker Bell, all things in pink and lavender to match the Empire State Building and then he had candy rings, I don't know if you have them, but they're like a big ring but it's candy. So he gave me this candy, I thought it was candy but really he put this ring inside of the candy. So I was just like, 'I think mine's broken' and then really it wasn't broken, it was the ring. And so I was like, 'Stop filming' and I just ran away 'cause I felt shy. It was a nice moment."
"I think that people notice, that they notice that I'm happy now. When I'm happy it's because I do have, I am in a really happy place in my personal life which I haven't ever been in before. This is a brand-new beginning and I think people, it's interesting because the album really matches where my life is at right now so it's a good thing."

Hong Kong singer Hins Cheung has always been a big fan of Mariah Carey. Hong Kong TV station TVB's entertainment news program "Entertainment Scoop" interviewed Mariah in Tokyo, Japan earlier and program host Albert Cheung gave Mariah a copy of Hins' am/pm CD with a personal message that says: "I love you forever." Mariah learned that he's a very talented artist in Hong Kong (Hins' first greatest hits My 1st Collection is the #1 selling CD for the first half of 2008 in Hong Kong). She said she will definitely listen to his album. She knew that Hins got tickets for her Hong Kong concert in 2006 but unfortunately it was cancelled. Hins was very disappointed so Mariah promised she will send him tickets when she tours Asia next year.

GRATING "VISION OF LOVE" Mariah Carey
Congratulations, you were first soprano in your school choir. You're the best karaoke singer in your group of friends, and you hum along to Mariah all the time on your iPod without missing a note. Okay, now sit down, we have some bad news: You cannot do this song. Seriously. Tackling this lung-crusher might seem like a fun challenge, but three minutes, five octaves, and one 10-second note later, you will realize that you did not conquer "Vision of Love." "Vision of Love" conquered you.

Stevie Wonder mentions Mariah in an interview with The Boston Globe:
Q. Some of your biggest fans have become popular musicians. Is that always flattering? A. To me it's an honor, and it's also a challenge, and so I'm influenced by the various people that are coming up as they say they are influenced by me. I like Alicia [Keys], I like Mariah [Carey], always taking chances doing different stuff. I think India[.Arie] is very talented. I'm a big John Mayer fan. I think [Justin Timberlake's] very talented, and it would be fun to work with him on stuff.
Rumor Mill: Chicago Sun-Times columnist Michael Sneed reports that Mariah Carey has written a song called "100 percent," which she wants Barack Obama to use as his campaign theme song. Top tip: Word is Carey wrote it in hopes it would become a theme for the Olympics, but reconsidered once Barack became the presumed Dem presidential candidate. The song has yet to be recorded.
From Newsday: Though her career is filled with classics - from "Lady Marmalade" to "New Attitude" - in recent years, Patti LaBelle hasn't had a big hit, despite releasing strong albums and working with hot producers. She wants to change that with a new solo album set for later this year that she hopes will include work with Mariah Carey and Ne-Yo, but she's not counting on it.
Up-and-coming rapper Asher Roth mentions Mariah and Nick Cannon in "Cannon," a track from his new "The Greenhouse Effect Mixtape." Listen below. The full mixtape is available for free download at his MySpace.
You know the world's gone mad When blacks wear plaid And Mariah has married Nick Cannon Or when a boy from the 'burbs Has the nerves to converge On a mixtape with DJ Cannon.

If you edited RWD, which five acts would you include? Mariah Carey, Amy Winehouse, Wiley, because he makes me laugh in his interviews, The Queen so I can talk to her and Usher.

"Some people say, 'Okay, well you shouldn't sing these people's songs' or whatever because I have a lot of songs that are very high-key and it's not easy sometimes."
"The actual craft of singing and learning how to do different things with your voice, but that is something that I still work on. Like I still try to learn, try not to hurt my voice but I do experiment with like the top notes and the different sections of my voice."
"People help me do my hair and make-up and clothes and get it all together and... [laughs] Whatever is coming out of your spirit shines through and that's really what beauty is about more than anything."
"It's very exciting, very exciting to have the album be so successful already. I put a lot of myself into this record."

India's CNN-IBN show, "E=MC² A Mariah Carey Special" that aired Friday, June 20th featured correspondent Priya Krishnamoorthy's interview with Mariah in Tokyo, Japan on June 2nd. Click on the links below to download the full show.
Mariah's Interview with IBN Live - Mumbai, India, June 20, 2008 Type: Mpg | Size: 188.4MB Download: Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3
Excerpts from the Interview Priya Krishnamoorthy: If your music and videos are colourful then so is your life. Recently in a surprise wedding you married 27-year-old actor Nick Cannon within weeks of meeting him. This is something I came across and I quote you, "I don't think I have ever experienced a relationship of the calibre I write about in my love songs." Do you feel differently now? Mariah Carey: Completely different. Yes. And it's interesting because I have had this conversation with my husband also. Everything has heightened because you really are in love now. Everything has suddenly changed. I feel I had written about those things because I had connected with people like that. I had romanticised about other relationships but they were never what my relationship is now. People wrote to me saying I am an eternal optimist but unrealistic for believing in one person who I am destined to be with. When it actually did happen to me, it was an amazing thing because it answered all my prayers. Lot of people don't believe in all this, but I do.
PK: It is this ability to touch people's heart with your music that got you onto the pages of Time magazine. In 2008, you have been voted as one of the 100 most influential people in the world. MC: I didn't even understand. I thought it was just entertainment. I had no idea of the enormity of the situation or what it meant. So when I found out, I was like 'are you serious?'
PK: The icing on the cake came as praise from musician Stevie Wonder. MC: Stevie Wonder is my ultimate favourite artist. We share a very close relationship because he knows how inspirational he has been to me. So to see what he wrote about me, I had to just call him and thank him for everything. His words were the highest points in my career.
PK: When are you planning to come to India? MC: I want to go everywhere and I really want to come to India. Please let my fans in India know how grateful I am for their support.

T.I. Buys Mariah Expensive Luggage
Mariah Carey feat. T.I. "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" (Remix) By Ryan Dombal, Rating:
A couple months ago, we named "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" (IBLULT) the best track on MC's recent E=MC² album and while this new remix doesn't necessarily make it that much better, we'll never complain about a breezy T.I. verse. The rapper is in "My Love" guest shot mode here, offering his lady expensive gifts (though we're pretty sure Mariah can buy her own Louis Vuitton). Still, the beat -- produced by T.I. buddy DJ Toomp-- is the star: perfect for your top-down beach drives and/or the soundtrack to The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2. Mariah is in a pure pop mood, keeping her trademark vocal runs in check while sticking close to the melody. A late, great entry into the Song of the Summer Sweepstakes.
To the right is a picture of Nick Cannon, T.I. and choreographer Eddie Morales on the set of the filming of "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" music video in Hawaii.

Below, find Akon and Lil Wayne's added verses, and a 15-sec audio clip.
Akon: I know, I know you're gone I know I'll see you again One thing that I can promise We gon' meet up again Hopefully up in heaven Prayin' that I'm forgiven For everything that I've done And that I forgot to mention.
It feels so bad to be Without my homie And ever since you've been absent I've been so lonely Why this life must cycle around Like a trophy Even though somebody Took the time to warn me.
That you can be with me And it's just crazy And everyday I'm wishing That you come save me And I know a man Ain't supposed to cry It's taken all the strength In my soul to say goodbye.
Lil Wayne: How come they call it goodbye? How come the good die? See I just get high And think of the good times That I had with my pop He was a good guy How come the good die?
As I protect my mother 'Cause I'm her oldest son And there are different worlds And we in the coldest one Which one did granny go to? And why do death come? As my baby asks Where do babies come from
I tell her where I tell her why I tell her I love her Until I tell her bye And whenever I Shall ever die I hope you celebrate it I hope you never hate it
And they say heaven's gated But I think I know the code And let's get your life right By the end of the road That's why I drive alone Down memory lane So if I crash I hope ya'll remember Wayne.

Monday, 16-Jun-2008, 4:40PM EDT | Posted by Lynn Mariah Given a Royal Celebration in the Philippines
Mariah Carey is already happily married to actor and rapper Nick Cannon, but wedding vows and golden rings have certainly not hampered this talented diva from still conquering the music scene.
Having been touted recently as the only artist ever to beat Elvis Presley in having the most number of chart-topping hits worldwide, Mariah Carey was hailed and honored last June 13 in Eastwood City, Libis. This victory party celebrated the smashing success of her newest album, E=MC2. This 14-track album hit gold in the Philippines just eight days after its release, with its carrier single "Touch My Body" effortlessly ruling the airwaves.
"Touch My Body" is Mariah's 18th chart-topper since her musical debut in 1990. The success of this song also catapulted the 38-year-old siren to the Number 2 spotlight in the Billboard records--next only to The Beatles, who had 20 worldwide hits, making them cling on firmly to the top spot. The King of Rock 'n Roll, Elvis Presley, had 17 hits in the Billboard charts.
ROYAL CELEBRATION. The posh victory party was spearheaded by MCA Music Inc., allowing MCA Music artists perform covers of songs popularized by the sultry diva.
Richard Poon ("My All"), Dianne Elise ("Bye Bye"), Chicosci ("Breakdown"), Miguel Escueta ("We Belong Together"), Pedicab ("Heartbreaker") and Zoo ("Always Be My Baby") all had explosive performances that were warmly welcomed by Mariah's avid supporters seated in the audience. Collectively called Mimi Lambs, these fans hooted and shouted as the singers rendered their own cover of a Mariah song plus a song from their own repertoire.
The event set-up in Libis was quite elaborate, with black, purple, and pink balloons lining not only the stage, but also the mini-runway that cut across it. The catwalk was used primarily by models garbed in exquisite timepieces for the fashion show held during the event. In line with the posh arrangements that pervaded the venue, a huge LCD screen was propped in the center and repeatedly played Mariah's music video of her smash hit "Touch My Body."
The event was hosted by Magic 89.9 disc jockeys Sam YG and Suzie, as well as MTV VJ and Bb. Pilipinas World title-holder Maggie Wilson.
ALL HAIL THE QUEEN. Aside from the recent release of the Mariah VIP Card, which entitles the owner to several discount privileges in select establishments nationwide, the soulful siren also released a classy signature scent to match her sparkling personality.
With her own perfume line soon to be available in the market, Mariah joins the ranks of Latina beauty Jennifer Lopez, pop princess Christina Aguilera, and hip-hop maven Gwen Stefani in having a signature fragrance that mimics her vivacious outlook in life.
Labeled M by Mariah Carey, Mariah's newest perfume collection aims to embody her beauty, femininity, and glamour--traits that have always been associated with the singer throughout her eighteen-year career in the music industry.
MARIAH IN THE PHILIPPINES? At the event, PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) took the opportunity to ask a representative from MCA Music Inc. if a concert of the Queen herself could possibly visit the Philippines in the future.
"It really depends on her schedule," replied label executive Katherine Choy. "Actually she was in Japan last time and we brought some friends from the media to be with her there," she recalled. "It's really not impossible. If we find someone who's really interested [to bring her here], then, why not?" she said with a smile.

From the June 23rd issue of In Touch magazine.
Nick Works Hard to Please Mariah Being married to a diva can't always be easy, but Nick Cannon is doing a good job keeping Mariah Carey happy. While the multi-platinum artist, 39, was hard at work shooting her next music video in Oahu, Hawaii, on June 8, Nick kept busy as well. "He got off the plane and went straight to Macy's in the Waikiki Kahala Mall, looking for his new line of PNB hoodies. He also picked up some treats at See's Candies for Mariah," an insider tells In Touch.
Several purchases later, the 27-year-old actor/rapper stopped by Tiffany & Co., where "he spent time choosing a gift for Mariah and put it in a regular paper bag so he could surprise her," says an onlooker. Nick's day ended with a dance party at Mariah's estate. "He arrived at sunset, just in time for the hula dancers' performance, arranged by Mariah," the insider says. Maybe she should dedicate her video, "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time," to her doting new husband.

Saturday, 14-Jun-2008, 7:03PM EDT | Posted by Lynn Mariah's Interview with The Philipine Star
On the couch with Mariah Carey by Ricky Lo
Our "first time" happened in bed. I mean, my first interview with Mariah Carey, nicknamed Mimi, way back in 1999 when she was in Hong Kong to promote her album, Rainbow. Mariah was tired after several rounds of interviews with more than two dozen journalists from around Asia and, toward early evening, she requested that we do the interview in her hotel room, with us six journalists seated around her bed where Mariah reclined like a modern-day Cleopatra.
Two weeks ago, we did it again. I mean, have another interview, this time with Mariah reclining on a couch, as friendly and as down-to-earth and as accommodating as ever, even violating a "no-photographs" rule and agreeing to pose for picture with me after I gave her a copy of my first Conversation titled In bed with Mariah Carey. It happened at a suite of The Peninsula in Tokyo where Mariah was promoting her new album, E=MC2.
Her face spelled H-A-P-P-I-N-E-S-S. Very obviously, she has made it "through the rain," to quote the now-classic song titled Make It Through the Rain which she recorded during a slump in her life and career a few years ago. A song that has become a favorite piece among aspirants in singing contests.
But, of course, the fact that she's on honeymoon mode explained the glow around Mariah. Last April 30, she surprised the world by getting married to singer-actor Nick Cannon at a sunset ceremony near the ocean in the Bahamas where Mariah owns an estate. They reportedly met in 2005 but started dating only last March.
The proposal was straight out of a romantic movie.
Here's how People magazine described it: On April 25, Cannon took Carey to the roof of her New York City apartment to see the Empire State Building, lit pink and lavender to honor her album E=MC2. As he often did, he gave her a Ring Pop candy shaped like a big jewel. But inside the wrapper was a 17-carat pink-diamond ring created by Jacob & Co.'s Jacob Arabo. Her reaction? "He has ribbons around it, so I said, 'I think mine's broken'," says Mariah. When he dropped to one knee, "she ran away and got all shy," he says. Finally, she said yes - twice. Cannon, who filmed it all, proposed again to get a perfect take, this time on a helicopter. "That," says Carey, "was beautiful."
Congratulations, Mariah! E=MC2 turned gold upon its release in the Philippines. (The album/CD is released in the Philippines by MCA Music Inc.) "Oh, thank you!"
You were in the Philippines a few years ago. How did you find it? "Oh, I had an amazing time in the Philippines and I'd love to go back. The crowd at the concert was fun; it was a really, really festive crowd. After the show, I had a chance to go to the beach and that was really beautiful; one of the most beautiful beaches that I've seen in my whole life... and I've been to several of them. I want to thank my fans in the Philippines for their love and support. Please extend my love to all my fans in the Philippines."
Why did you call it E=MC2? "Well, there's a lot of reasons but, you know, it's just fun and having a good time, and 'MC' is my nickname... and, you know, there's a lot of different reasons. I like people to interpret it in their own way."
How did the album come to be? "Well, it's just some sort of a combination of different moments, really. It begins with a song called Migrate which has a 'dark' kind of a feel; I just love its beat. Everything happens for a reason and E=MC2 is really one album that represents my life right now. It's some kind of a soundtrack of my life."
Of course, "E" in the album's title stands for Emancipation (which happens to be in the title of your immediate past album, also a hit), doesn't it? "Well, I say that sometimes when, you know... As I've said, other people have a different interpretation of the word 'E.' But really, I think it is sort of like a dose of who I am. You know what I mean - as a person and as an artist. And so, that's what it is. It's kind of like about me."
"Emancipated" from what? "Well, from a lot of things. I mean, I think that as we grow old and we learn more about ourselves, we become a little bit more free. It's difficult to be free if you don't really know where you come from, or if you are not in touch with your feelings. It has taken me a long time to get to that place because, uh, you know, I have gone through rough roads along the way. They've been amazing times, though. Freedom and emancipation and all those good things are really important to me."
You are such a beautiful survivor. "Oh, thank you!"
To everybody, most especially your fans, you will forever be the diva. "Oh, I'm very grateful for that. I believe that I owe it to the fact that I'm a person who has a lot of spirituality. I believe in God very strongly but I'm not necessarily a religious person. I have devoted and dedicated fans; I really care about them. Some people that I've met, you know, they see their fans and say, 'Oh, 'em people are crazy!' Some people have told me that."
So you are in touch with your fans. "Oh yes, I am. When I do a concert, I go down the stage even if my partner would tell me, 'MC, don't go down there!' Look, I like being part of the crowd, I like the feeling. It's something different. I know others seldom do that, but I do. I love it when my fans show me clippings of articles about me or books and magazines about me. Getting personal with them is a wonderful experience."
You have gone through so many things. How did you do it? Where do you draw your strength from? "I definitely draw my strength from my personal relationship with God. I've been able to pray my way through tough times and things like that. You know, I think that's important for people to know that everything is possible. You know, no matter what kind of mess you are going through, there's always something bright around the corner. There's always something beautiful."
What inspires you to write songs? Do you write better when you are happy or when you are sad? "You know, I've written some songs when I was really, really sad; and then again, I've written successful songs when I was really, really happy. Some songs I wrote while I was going through difficult times. I wrote some songs that discuss issues that were difficult but that turned out to be something that healed me."
So, music can be a form of therapy as it is with many artists. "Yes, it can be. I do think that music is very therapeutic not just for me, you know, but also for people who listen to it. A song can put lonely people in a good mood, you know."
Would you say that you are happy now more than ever? Yes, I can say that. This is a very happy time for me. Nothing is ever perfect... there's always something that you have to deal with. You know, things about you that people don't necessarily understand, like artists like me are doing what they do for a living. It's not as if every day is a holiday. I love music and being creative."
You look as smashing as ever. As I've said, you are such a beautiful survivor. How do you keep in shape? "It's just diet and exercise. Boring!"
As an equation for surviving, what's the magic "formula" behind E=MC2? "Well, to me it's all about never losing faith in yourself... always believing in yourself. People ask me all the time, 'Oh, how could you go on? People were writing you off and treating you like...' whatever it is... 'You would never gonna succeed again!' You know what, people looked at me like that before I became famous. So I can't even entertain what other people think. It's about me continuing to make music or whatever the project is. You know, people told me that I could never act again and I was fortunate to make two films which are coming out this year. It's all about faith, about God and never ever giving up."
Obviously, stardom hasn't changed the basic goodness in you. "I still look at myself as the same girl as I was before I joined showbiz. I still remember being a little kid. I often tell myself, 'Don't ever forget what it feels like to be a kid.' You see, adults misunderstand kids so much that they forget what it is like to be a kid. I still remember when I was struggling and I had only one pair of shoes. The friend I had at that time is the same friend I have today. She and I would sleep together on a mattress on the floor of our Manhattan pad. She used to help me get waitressing jobs. But I was so bad... I was 17 and I was too young to be serving food. I also got fired because I was listening to my Walkman all the time, to my demo tapes. I was a complete mess in that regard."
How was your childhood like? "I grew up in New York... without my mother. She was a former opera singer with the New York Opera and a vocal coach. She was the dominant force in my life because I didn't have my father (an African-Venezuelan; her mom, Irish) around. I saw my father every now and then but it was my mother who raised me. She allowed me to develop my personality from a very young age. She introduced me to all those artistic people. She was a strong-willed woman; she married my father against wishes of her family. That was in the '60s when marrying a black man was a no-no. She eventually separated from my father and married a white man."
What about your school life? "I had fun in school but I also had this feeling that I was different, that I was a mixed-race kid. I was insecure about my looks. It took me a while to get over this feeling. There's a line from one of my songs that says, 'I've learned there's an inner peace I own, something of my soul that they cannot possess. I won't be afraid of darkness because there's a light in me that will shine brightly...' and another line from another song, 'They can try but they can't take that away from me.' Meaning, no matter what anybody says, if you have that power within yourself you get through it. And that's what got me through everything in life because I had a kind of screwed-up childhood."
During our first interview almost a decade ago, I asked you to describe yourself in three words... "...what did I say?"
You said you were "workaholic, insecure and optimistic." "Oh, did I say that?" (Laughs).

Saturday, 14-Jun-2008, 2:36AM EDT | Posted by Lynn Audio: Mariah Interviews with UK's BBC Radio 1Xtra
On Sunday, June 8th, Mariah called in from Hawaii to talk about her new album E=MC², her secret wedding to Nick Cannon, and more with DJ Ronnie Herel on BBC Radio 1Xtra in London, UK.
Listen to the interview to the right. Click here to download an MP3 file.
Below are some quotes from the interview.
Talking about E=MC² "I hope people will get the album and really listen to it 'cause it's definitely, definitely like, I don't know, I mean, Jermaine [Dupri] and I who really collaborated on the Mimi album, he feels this is a better album and I think that's a pretty big deal 'cause he says he basically never, he usually speaks the truth. He's a pretty blunt guy."
"I feel like God has definitely blessed me with an album that I'm really proud of and I'm really grateful for, and really grateful for just all the success and the exciting things that have gone on like the Time magazine's Top 100 Most Influential People in the World. That was a dream, not even a dream-come-true. I never imagined that would happen and Stevie Wonder just wrote an amazing write-up about me. Stevie Wonder's my favorite. I've always been a huge fan of his so to see him write something that was so incredibly flattering about me as an artist and then as a human being, that was like, I think, that's probably the best thing that's happened to me in my career."
Discussing Recent Wedding "I really feel like I've been talking about it because I'm excited about it and I think we're both really happy at this point in time in a different way than maybe than people can understand but the point is if we would have just been like, 'okay, it's a big engagement and let's have a big Hollywood hoopla and bla-bla-bla,' I think people would have, I don't know how people would have responded. It doesn't really matter. We wanted to get married and that was our private moment and it was very, very small, just a very, very intimate group of people. There was not a huge ordeal, Hollywood moment it was not that at all. After the fact that we wanted people to see pictures, we had pictures that we could give you know that's fine but it's like this is just something that happens once in a lifetime, in terms of this type of a feeling so I don't think that it would have been about inviting a bunch of people that you really don't know that well just to make a big hoopla about it. It wasn't about celebrity or not celebrity. It was about people who could appreciate the fact that we love each other and that's something we wanted to do."
Dispelling 'Second Big Wedding' Rumor "I don't know where that came from. No, here's the thing like, it's so bizarre, there's always one like this weird rumor that we were gonna spend $4 million on a wedding, I'm like, 'why?' Why would anybody set out to spend $4 million on a wedding? We got married privately, you know, like secretly kind of basically. And then of course, you know, we were getting married on a beach and I got there a little late and so we almost didn't have any sunlight left for the pictures and it was like, it was what it was but no we're not doing that. What we said was we would probably do, and this is actually the next idea that we're maybe just, you know, have a different type of party to celebrate every year like I'm getting married every year thing."

Saturday, 14-Jun-2008, 2:18AM EDT | Posted by Lynn Fan Recap: The Philippines' E=MC² Victory Party
Mandy gives us a recap of what went down at last night's MCA Music-sponsored Victory Party for Mariah's E=MC² held at Eastwood Central Plaza Libis in Quezon City, Philippines.
"The night at Libis was pretty humid while the big crowd was already getting the momentum of Mariah's music infused in the evening air. It was way past 8pm and the night was starting to light up. Fans who enlisted and purchased the first April release of the deluxe edition got the most wanted VIP card to get a red carpet treatment and refreshments. The party came as a surprise too as 'M by Mariah Carey' was literally all over the place. Mariah's perfume was not initially available here after its release and hardcore fans like us had to get our own supply from the USA. It was also cool to know that it is now available at Rustan's, an upscale department store.
Richard Poon performs "My All"
The party was peppered too with tons of prizes of 'M' perfumes and items from sponsors. Five fans also competed to sing like Mariah and went away with perfumes as prizes. The winner got an additional 'M' purple t-shirt. People got touched a lot with dancers and models strutting in a fashion show. Rock bands, upcoming singers and a famous crooner got their own interpretation of an MC song of their choice. David Cook's 'Always Be My Baby' cover hit got replicated by Zoo. Miguel Escueta, pulled a brilliant rock version of 'We Belong Together.' Dianne Elise confessed to have her first performance as an artist of MCA Music and offered a stunning version of 'Bye Bye.' Chicosci, a hard rock band performed 'Breakdown' with a guest rapper and playfully slipped in 'Hero' through their rock song. Pedicab, a rather monotone-eccentric boy band, ran off with 'Heartbreaker.' The show-stopper belonged to the famous balladeer Richard Poon whose range of contemporary hits was superbly interpreted his way. 'My All' may not seem to be a nice pick for a male singer but Richard suavely grooved his voice to this 1998 Mariah hit.
For the night's special surprise, a Mariah autographed The Emancipation of Mimi CD got raffled off and my friend and birthday boy, Mark, clutched the night's ultimate prize. I was a little despondent and bitter that I did not win it but that's okay. I'll just hunt Mariah the next time she comes to Manila.
And to end this festive night, our appreciations to MCA for pulling a festive show like this."
