Mariah Calls Victim of 'Bogus' E-Mail
Thursday, May 29, 2003
By Catherine Donaldson-Evans
NEW YORK — A 10-year-old Mariah Carey fan got her wish to talk to the diva after a prankster sent the girl a nasty e-mail claiming to be the singer, the pop star's spokesman said Thursday.
The incident began when Michelle Katz's grandmother, Dee Hofland, wrote an e-mail to what she thought was Carey's official Web site. Writing on behalf of her granddaughter, Hofland asked for an audience with the singer. Michelle, who is blind, idolizes the singer and was crushed after Carey canceled the St. Paul concert the girl and her grandmother had hoped to attend.
But the response Hofland received was appalling — and not from Carey or anyone who works for her, insisted the singer's publicist, Cindy Berger, who called the e-mail "completely bogus."
"Miss, with all due respect, I have my own problems. I have no time to accommodate everyone else’s," the e-mail to Katz read. "My sister is suffering HIV right now. Is anyone worried about my problems? Some people can be so damn selfish. Next time you e-mail me with any requests, you will be reported. Have a great day! m.c."
Carey called the girl directly after learning of the experience, according to Berger.
"Mariah spoke to the little girl’s father, Bill Katz, and he put the little girl, Michelle, on phone," Berger said. "Mariah assured her that e-mail response she got came from a bogus Web site, not an official site."
Now Katz may get her wish to meet the pop diva in person. "Mariah is looking forward to meeting Michelle and her family backstage at a concert during her Charmbracelet tour," said Berger.
Hofland said her granddaughter admires Carey so much she has learned to play some of her songs on the piano.
"Mariah is her imaginary friend. She takes Mariah everywhere with her," Hofland said. "When I pick her up, Mariah Carey is in the car. She absolutely adores her."
The fake e-mail, which came from an AOL address, is being investigated by AOL, according to Berger.

Fox News
Note: The above article contains quotes from Mariah's publicist, Cindy Berger, about the actual chain of events. A lot of stations / articles are reporting a false story (i.e not mentioning the clarified part about the fake e-mail address) so please ignore them. Just another proof for why we shouldn't always believe everything we hear/read until getting an official confirmation/denial.
New Voice Message
Mariah left a new voice message in her official site. Here's the transcript, thanks to Mariah-Carey.org:
"Hi! [high octave] Yeah, I haven’t spoken to you in a while. I just wanted to say hey to everybody out there and thank you so much for everything that you are doing, as always. I wanted to send a special shout out to all the New York area lambs, Charmers and Honey B. Fly members; I love you much.
I also wanted to say remember to come on down to the Today Show tomorrow, Friday, May 30th, ‘cause that’s what we’re gonna be doing. We’re gonna be doing a little show and if you get there early and get a good spot, stick around after the show so I can try to say hi to you guys and stuff.
And also, don’t forget the Z100 Zootopia is this Sunday, June 1st. So, if you haven’t got your nice tickets already, go get them now before it’s too late.
All right, I'll see you there. I love you much, appreciate you and enjoy you. Bye, bye! [high octave]

Mariah Carey show scheduled for July 26 at Xcel Energy Center cancelled
SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Mariah Carey, who will embark on her first world tour in over three years on June 21st in Seoul, Korea, has decided to restructure the U.S. leg of the tour. The Charmbracelet 2003 World Tour was originally scheduled to play arenas across the U.S., but now the revamped schedule is expected to feature more intimate theater-style venues, bringing Carey closer to her loyal fans.
Tour dates in Manchester, NH; Chicago, IL; and Toronto, ON, will go on as scheduled. Mariah Carey regrets that the new theater routing now conflicts with the Xcel Energy Center show date. The July 26 show scheduled for Xcel Energy Center has been cancelled.
Fans that have purchased tickets for the Xcel Energy Center concert can obtain refunds or exchanges for the performance at their original point of purchase. For online purchases from Ticketmaster.com, call the Ticketmaster customer service in St. Paul at (651) 989-5151.

For Mariah, a Smaller Tour
Carey to perform at 'more intimate' theater-size venues, not arenas
May 28, 2003
Either Mariah Carey wants to get intimate with her fans, or tour producers may have over-estimated the drawing power of a pop diva.
After much hype and the best-laid plans of agent and promoter, the North American leg of Carey's upcoming "Charmbracelet" world tour is being scaled back from arenas to theater-sized venues.
Despite efforts to spin this move as making the trek "something special," tours are almost always scaled back for one reason: lower-than-expected ticket sales. But Carey's handlers say this is not the case this time. "Mariah had been speaking to people, monitoring her Web site and listening to her fans, and the resounding note she heard was her fans wanted to see her in a more intimate environment and were less concerned about the big production aspects of an arena tour," said Carey's agent, John Marx, a senior vice president of contemporary music at the William Morris Agency. "Mariah informed us she wanted to have a more intimate setting, and we started to rebook into smaller, more intimate venues."
Beginning June 21 in Seoul, South Korea, the 47-date "Charmbracelet" world tour, Carey's first in more than three years, was to be her most extensive yet.
The North American leg was scheduled to begin July 18 at the Sullivan Arena in Anchorage, Alaska, and conclude Sept. 23 at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, N.H. Local dates had included Sept. 17 at Madison Square Garden and Sept. 20 at Nassau Coliseum. New dates and venues could be announced within days.
The tour had a gross potential of about $16million. Now, it may not gross anywhere near that much after being downsized from arenas in the 10,000- to 20,000-capacity range to theaters typically in the 5,000- to 8,000-seat range. Carey is still scheduled to perform as part of Z-100's "Zootopia" concert Sunday at Giants Stadium.

Da Brat to hit road with Mariah Carey
(May. 28, 2003) *Da Brat is yet another of our favorite performers that have been on a bit of a hiatus as of late. But she’s on her way back to the limelight sooner than you might think.
In fact, she’s returning with the “Limelite, Luv and Niteclubz” … seeing as though that’s the title of her new set and all.
On the set she takes the listeners to a place that she has seldom gone ... into her previous, heartbreaking relationships.
This summer you might get a chance to see the Windy City born MC's skills live and in person if you check out Mariah Carey's tour in support of her latest LP, Charmbracelet. Brat will do selected dates.

Cry-er Carey
If you've ever found yourself at the sharp end of a relationship break-up playing the same Mariah Carey ballads over and over again while you drench ten boxes of tissues with tears and snot, you're in pretty good company. It seems that Mariah herself has been there and done that, and finds her own voice remarkably comforting.
She told the Sun: "It can be healthy to listen to sad songs like 'Bringing On The Heartbreak' and cry for a while. But then listen to a happy song - and think about the next man."
She also claims that the wild ways of other pop stars (like Lee Blue, just to pick a name at random) are not for her. She said: "I'm still single and I don't have casual sex. I don't like it. I'm waiting for a proper relationship. I know people who have one-night stands but that's not for me."
That'll be the end of your plans for a horizontal Mazza duet, Duncan Blue...

Carey makes hotel staff cringe
28/05/2003 - 09:33:16
Mariah Carey takes divadom to new heights when she checks into the posh Shore Club hotel in Miami Beach, Florida.
Her requests include honey served only in a bear-shaped plastic bottle; ten humidifiers spread out in her suite; and a treadmill by her bed. If any of these requests aren’t filled out to the letter staff heads roll.
Remember this is the woman that’s gone on record saying “I don’t do stairs.”
But being a diva doesn’t come cheap.
Price tag for her last week-long say: a paltry $70,000!
Source:
IOL
Miami is the new New York. Two weeks before every big-name celeb in urban music invades South Beach for round-the-clock festivities over Memorial Day weekend, South Florida is already poppin'.
Mariah Carey steps out of her limo in a bikini and sandals to walk up to her hotel. A few blocks down, a tattooed Mike Tyson, who's down here training for his next fight, eats at a Cuban restaurant, cracking jokes with a crew of 20. Later on that night, 50 Cent, who's in town for a concert and a photo shoot with famed photographer Jonathan Manion, throws back a few cold ones with the G-Unit at one of the many happening nightspots.
But the beauty of Miami is that you don't have to walk up and down South Beach to catch your favorite star. All you have to do is home in on the Hit Factory Criteria studios. In the past few months, Foxy Brown, Lenny Kravitz, P. Diddy and Mary J. Blige have all cut tracks there. Today, the names on the reserved parking spots read like a walk of fame: Ms. Carey, Monica, D. Chappelle (as in Dave) and Mr. Santana (as in Carlos) all have spaces waiting for them, as do the Big Tymers and their Cash Money entourage. A new Ferrari and motorbike are being washed on a chunk of ground with a sign that reads "Missy E." beside it. And a few feet from Missy's spot are two signs that say "Mr. Gotti" and "Ashanti."
...
"I met her in London at a Halloween party, which was hilarious," Ashanti says about how she first crossed paths with Mariah Carey. The legendary high-note hitter has tapped Ashanti to open up her Charmbracelet tour, slated to roll out this summer. "I heard she's down here in Miami. I want to hook up with her."
Little does she know that her wish is about to come true.
As the Inc.'s championship game ends, no one notices that down the way in the vacant spot reserved for Ms. Carey there is now a black stretch limo. No one except Irv, who has popped his head out of the studio to take a short break. He walks down and greets Mariah, who has on some very short shorts and sandals.
"That's appropriate," Carey says, pointing to Gotti's T-shirt, which reads "America's Most Wanted" across the chest. After their meeting, I.G. quickly gets Ashanti and her mother. This milestone won't be charted by Billboard or SoundScan, but judging from the huge smile on her face and warm embrace she gives Carey, this is a milestone that Ashanti will cherish with all the ones that have gone down in the record books.

No casual sex for Mariah Carey
Tuesday, 27 May , 2003, 14:33
Washington: Mariah Carey will not have sex until she finds the right man.
"I'm still single and I don't have casual sex. I don't like it. I'm waiting for a proper relationship. I know people who have one-night stands but that's not for me," she was quoted as saying by The Sun.
The Grammy-winning US pop diva also revealed that every time she breaks up from her boyfriend, she listens to her own songs.
"It can be healthy to listen to sad songs like `Bringing On The Heartbreak' and cry for a while. But then listen to a happy song - and think about the next man," Mariah added. ANI

B.O.T.H Video Review
Meg got a copy of the promotional video to B.O.T.H (may change before airing on TV) and here are the details she told us about it:
It opens with Mariah pulling up in a limo and getting out in a sexy gypsy-looking outfit. She walks into a phone booth when the songs starts and there's clips of that along with her and a hot guy caressing each other. It moves to Mariah arriving at her concert by landing in a helicopter, where she exits and greets all her fans. The video then cuts to her at her concert, where she's looking amazing! The Dave Navarro guitar solo in the song is awesome and MC looks totally into the song as she's moving around on stage. The direction in the video is awesome and Mariah looks fantastic, as always!!

Mariah Madness
Mariah Carey, the top record-selling female artist of all time, is coming to Anchorage. Oh wait. No, she isn't.
The musical mystery that is Mariah recently flirted with Anchorage, but the diva eventually turned a cold shoulder on the Last Frontier. On April 24, Carey's camp announced plans for her Charmbracelet World Tour, a 47-date run that starts June 24 in Osaka, Japan, and included a North American leg that was slated to begin July 18 at Sullivan Arena.
But in the three weeks following the announcement, Carey's tour itinerary was continually reworked, and recent listings appear without an Anchorage gig. John Marx and Brett Smith, representatives from the William Morris Agency, each confirmed the non-event via e-mail.
Tanya Hoak, Sullivan Arena's director of sales and marketing, also said the show is a no-go. She said a promoter inquired about openings and made tentative reservations, but plans never went beyond that and were officially scrapped late last week.
"It's not frustrating; it's the nature of the business," Hoak said. Hoak added that this was just a "somewhat unusual" case of an organization announcing dates that were unconfirmed and unofficial.
Don't cry for Carey. Her 2002 release "Charmbracelet" recently was certified platinum, adding another plaque to the list of more than 100 gold, platinum and multi-platinum awards. Carey currently appears at No. 3 on Billboard's Hot 100 singles with "I Know What You Want," a duet with rapper Busta Rhymes.

Mariah Carey Adding Some New Charms To Her Bracelet
05.23.2003 2:53 PM EDT
It looks like there's still some more charm to be squeezed out of Mariah Carey's Charmbracelet.
Her latest album, which dropped in December, will be reissued this summer with four new tracks. The popular duet with Busta Rhymes "I Know What You Want," which originally appeared on Rhymes' It Ain't Safe No More, will be among the bonus cuts.
Carey also recorded a remix of "The One" with Jermaine Dupri and Bone Crusher, which might be included. And, according to her label, two more new songs will be added, though they haven't been confirmed yet.
Coinciding with the re-release of the album, Carey will kick off a tour that will include picks from fans — or "lambs," as she calls them — who can vote for their favorite 20 songs on her Web site.
The new Charmbracelet, with revised cover art, is tentatively due July 29.

Mariah Ditching 'Bells And Whistles' On Tour
Although Mariah Carey is downsizing her North American tour plans from arenas to theaters, her agent tells Billboard the move had nothing to do with lower-than-expected ticket sales. "Mariah had been speaking to people, monitoring her Web site, and listening to her fans, and the resounding note she heard was her fans wanted to see her in a more intimate environment and were less concerned about the big production aspects of an arena tour," says John Marx, senior VP of contemporary music at the William Morris Agency.
Beginning June 21 in Seoul, South Korea, the 47-date Charmbracelet world tour, Carey's first in more than three years, was to be her most extensive yet. The North American leg was initially scheduled to begin July 18 at the Sullivan Arena in Anchorage, Alaska, and conclude Sept. 23 at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, N.H.; international dates appear to be unchanged.
Marx maintains the tour would have been fine as booked. "Ticket counts were not that bad, and our average capacity on this tour was about 11,000," he says. "She'll have the same band, minus the bells and whistles. She's going to bring it back to what Mariah's all about: the music."
According to Marx, Carey could wind up playing as many as 27 dates, beginning July 26 at Celine Dion's Colosseum showroom at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. As previously reported, Island/Monarc is planning to reissue Carey's latest album, "Charmbracelet," on July 29 with four new tracks.
Only four North American shows had gone on sale when plans began to change: Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn. (July 26), United Center in Chicago (July 29), Air Canada Centre in Toronto (Aug. 7), and the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester. Carey's official Web site advised her fans in cities where the shows had gone on sale to hang on to tickets and receipts, presumably for a refund or exchange. But some building officials were out of the loop.
Brian Miller, director of event development for the Xcel Energy Center, says he sold about 2,000 tickets out of the box. But when Billboard contacted him earlier this week, he had yet to be informed that the tour was being scaled back and that his date would be scratched. "Sounds like I need to call the promoter," Miller says. "We're still up and on sale." Carey was not only supposed to perform July 26 at Xcel, she also had the building booked for rehearsals July 24-25.
Robert Hunter, senior VP/GM of the 20,000-seat Air Canada Centre, says sales were at about 4,500 for his show, and the date was still on. It will likely take place in the building's 8,500-seat configuration concert bowl.

New Mariah Interview
Superstar Mariah Carey takes time out to talk to us about her world tour ‘Charm Bracelet ‘and her two UK tour dates.
Q: Hi Mariah how you doing? Now tell me all about your world tour, your Charm Bracelet World Tour - you must be very, very excited?
A: I’m very, very excited. I’m really, really looking forward to getting out there and touring and getting out there being with the fans. The whole vibe is going to be more intimate. I think the fans are going to feel really up close and personal with me and it takes a lot of discipline because I have to rest between shows, but it’s cool.
Q: Now tell us about the two UK dates
NEC Arena Birmingham and Wembley London (October 28 and 29)
Q: Tell us what it’s like playing at Wembley have you been there before?
Yes I have and I loved it – it’s fun. I remember I kicked a soccer ball there! Football you guys call it.
Q: This is your first tour in three yeas you’ve taken a long break from this kind of thing – you’re obviously fit and healthy to go back into it – how’s all that been going?
Everything's great everything’s been fine. It’s funny when people keep asking me how are you, how are you doing, are you feeling well and blah blah, it’s interesting to me - the press really like to hang on to an old story don’t they?
Q: But I saw you recently a couple of months ago you’re obviously on top form - what sort of things have you got in store for the fans at the gigs?
Oh thank you, well I’ve been trying to stay in shape doing these water aerobics which is kind of my new take on working out because it doesn’t feel like it - if you have to torture yourself you might as well do it in the ocean! But in terms of the surprises for the fans, I’m still working that out myself but I like to incorporate the different cultures of where I’m going - I like to bring fans on stage. This is going to be a lot more theatrical than my standard tour because I’ve had the chance to work with the people, the lighting people and had chance to be a lot more hands on.

Originally Reviewed: May 31, 2003
With the imminent relaunch of Mariah Carey's Charmbracelet and a high-profile tour just around the corner, it's more important than ever for Island/ Def Jam to deliver a radio hit for their pricey diva. Her cover of Def Leppard's "Bringin' on the Heartbreak" opens—like most of the album—with Carey's delicate upper register leading the way, but fortunately, this reworked single version strips in a new midsection, where Ms. M flexes some real vocal muscle. Ballads are few and far between on mainstream radio, and without the requisite add-on rap from any number of hip-hop stars, it's tough to score a gimmick-free hit. Even so, this is the most satisfying release from Carey in years: It's melodic, it's all her, and at last, she's singing like she means it. This is one "Heartbreak" we'll all be feeling.—CT

Happy Birthday Mariah Daily!
Today, 'Mariah Daily' celebrates 5 happy years online! Regina started the site 5 years ago which was called "WildtCatHG's Too Cool Mariah Page" and later transformed into Mariah Daily. Other than Regina, the site had great contributors such as Danielle, Nacho & Dis. I'm happy to be currently running it and thought I'd take this opportunity to thank all of you who have been supporting the site - sending news, sharing your opinions and above all visiting the site and supporting Mariah.
While I'm at it, I want to also apologize for the lack of updates recently due to the fact one of my Hard Drives died containing 30GB of data :( (NEVER trust computers) and a big Math exam coming up in 10 days (yuck!). I'll try to get back on track ASAP.
Thanks for the support & Much Mariah Love,
Liron.

Mariah Interviewed On UK's GMTV
Early morning viewers would have been greeted with a pretty sight this morning as Mariah Carey herself gave an interview- talking about the world tour, water aerobics and boys!
Before the Q&S was screened, Rachel Harrison (the interviewer) was asked what Mariah was really like. Was she a diva? Was she difficult? The answer- NO! Rachel Harrison, known for her quality entertainment pieces, said Mariah turned up five minutes early, apologised for being late, came with only three people and only requested some coffee!
Then, Lorraine Kelly, who famously criticised Mariah Carey, admitted that Mariah looked stunning in the video of IKWYW, and said it appeared Mariah was "getting her act together, which was pretty good!"
Of the world tour, Mariah said she would miss her dogs, and that whilst the state of the world is worrisome, a reality of her life is that she performs for her fans around the world.
After being told she always looked stunning by the interviewer, Mariah modestly said "I don't think I look good all the time but thank you, that's very nice of you". She then revealed that her new form of work-out is water aerobics, and she finds it annoying when she goes to places where the main dish is Fish and Chips and she's dying to eat it! "It's cool, you just have to take everything in moderation," she finished!
When asked if there was a special man in her life, Mariah said "I'm not in love. I don't even meet anybody. How can I meet anybody? All I do is sit on tv and do interviews! (Laughs hysterically) I'm gonna make it a prerequisite for you guys to bring a cute guy along with you!"
When asked about the diva rumours, Mariah said: "Sometimes there is a big entourage, but I don't think that makes me anymore special than anyone else, or anymore difficult"
Check out some captures from the interview in Gallery 7 (Thanks Will!)

More Mariah Vs. Eminem
Em's a girl blasts Mariah
MARIAH CAREY has blasted tough-talking rapper EMINEM as “a little girl” for threatening to use her voice messages on a record.
Em claims to have slushy words that Mariah left on his phone when they dated last year and says he will sample them on a single.
But Mariah hit back: “I don’t think he should do that because it will get him in a bit of trouble with my lawyers.
“If he is thinking of using a voicemail I left a year ago it is crazy.
“It feels like he is engaging in a catfight with me. It’s like dealing with a girlfriend in seventh grade.
“It’s like fighting with a little girl. It’s childish.”
Mariah, who features on BUSTA RHYMES’ new single I Know What You Want, called me to announce two UK gigs. She will perform at Birmingham NEC on October 28 and Wembley on October 30.
Tickets go on sale on May 30. Watch this space for more dates.
Em and Mariah were only an item for a short time and she has admitted it was never a match made in heaven.
Now she is hoping to find a British boyfriend when she tours. Mariah told me: “I never meet people. I want somebody cute, like a sportsman. Perhaps you can hook me up with somebody.”
Looking at the picture, it’s hard to imagine why she has trouble attracting a new bloke.

'I KNOW WHAT YOU WANT (FEAT MARIAH CAREY AND THE FLIPMODE SQUAD)'
Released on Mon 26 May 2003
Label: J Records
Out of potential disaster Busta Rhymes is managing to forge some kind of success in the singles department. Last album 'It Ain't Safe No More...' was hardly a classic and yet you'll still find this track and the superb preceding single, 'Make It Clap' (especially the Sean Paul version), doing the business in your local hip hop discotheque.
The presence of Mariah Carey should warn off the hardcore (though it's hard to figure out quite what she's doing here) but casual MTV Base glancers will be in heaven from the very first bars of sun-drenched latin guitar lite. This is, you imagine, what a new Santana single would sound like if these two J Records players ever get the inevitable collaboration together.
As it is, the A&R department know the global reach of this kind of summer holiday material and it seems they have another hit on their hands.

Mariah vs. Eminem
by Josh Grossberg
May 16, 2003, 2:00 PM PT
Mariah Carey's unlikely to give Eminem a charm bracelet, much less extend an olive branch.
The pissed-off pop songstress, who's relaxing in the Caribbean before setting sail on a six-month world tour in support of her new album, Charmbracelet, had some pointed words for the rap superstar after hearing reports that Em threatened to include samples of several rambling voicemail messages she left him in an upcoming tune.
"I don't know what the hell he's doing," Carey grouses in the New York Daily News on Thursday. "It's a little excessive. Doesn't it seem a little bit girly? Like we're in a cat fight?"
The audio pinings purportedly reveal a different side of the diva--one who adores mixing "baby talk" with other "weird and graphic" messages.
Whatever their content, Carey downplayed their naughtiness.
"Graphic? I'm like Mary Poppins when it comes to that type of thing. I'm a jokester," Carey tells the Daily News. "I have little voices. I do little things like that that are fun and games...If somebody has nothing better to do than sit around listening to old phone messages, I'm a little concerned about that."
The story, first circulated earlier this week by the gossip mavens at the New York Post, claimed that Eminem had saved every one of the songbird's "gushy" voicemails to use as payback when Carey dissed him in her song "Clown," after he went public with their relationship.
Emimen told Rolling Stone last summer that the pair briefly dated, before he realized he "didn't like her as a person."
"Don't believe the hype…She doesn't really have it all together," he said at the time.
For her part, Carey denied they were ever an item. And on "Clown," she sang: "You should have never intimated we were lovers. I gotta break it to you delicately/who's gonna love you when it's over? Who's gonna care?"
Eminem's rep says the rumor that the hip-hopster was going to go public with the messages from his purported paramour was "the most erroneous thing" he's ever heard.
"He's not using Mariah's phone messages. Nothing's being used in an album," says Interscope Records spokesman Dennis Dennehy.
Either way, Carey says she's too busy prepping for her upcoming trek around the globe to worry about the likes of Eminem.
Carey will kick off her jaunt in Seoul, on June 21, and plans to visit more than 113 cities. This time around, the popster is booking smaller venues for a more intimate feeling and is also letting fans help choose her set list via her Website. She's slated to launch the North American leg of her tour on July 18, in Anchorage.
Charmbracelet, meanwhile, has sold more than 1 million copies since its December debut and has proved that Carey is back on track after her 2001 emotional breakdown and career meltdown following the movie and album debacle Glitter.
