E=MC² is Blender's 27th Best Album of 2008
Mariah's E=MC² is #27 on Blender's The 33 Best Albums of 2008.

27. Mariah Carey, E=MC²
Mimi went to R. Kelly School! Here she is, videotaping sex on "Touch My Body"; hankering for a key in her ignition on "I'm That Chick"; cribbing a Da Nang hooker's catchphrase on "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time"--goodbye butterfly, hello freak. And that's only part of her grooming: She's shorn her lines of melismatic paroxysms, favoring clipped, bouncy phrasing and staccato, minimal beats. It's her sleekest, sultriest record yet.

E=MC² is Echoes' 3rd Best R&B Album of 2008
Echoes, the only R&B/soul music publication left in the UK, placed E=MC² at #3 in its review of the best R&B albums of 2008 (scan here). T-Pain's Thr33 Ringz and Estelle's Shine were at #1 and #2, respectively.

Mariah Carey: E=MC²
If you wanted to sample what quality contemporary R&B/pop music should really sound like at its best, Mariah's 11th studio album, which featured more typically playful anthems like the singles "Touch My Body" and "Lovin' U Long Time," was a perfect guide. On a well-balanced LP she proved once more that there's no one else in the game that can test her vocals.

E=MC² Makes AP's Top 10 Albums of 2008
Yes, our top 10 albums list does contain some of the usual suspects -- Kanye, Taylor, Lil Wayne. But it also features artists who have yet to realize their platinum peak, and others who are firmly entrenched in alternative scene. They all have one thing in common -- they created the best CDs of year. Here's a rundown of music's elite.

1. Erykah Badu, "New Amerykah, Part One (4th World War)"
2. Estelle, "Shine"
3. Sia, "Some People Have Real Problems"
4. Kanye West, "808s & Heartbreak"
5. Jazmine Sullivan, "Fearless"
6. Lil Wayne, "Tha Carter III"
7. Taylor Swift, "Fearless"
8. Anthony Hamilton, "The Point of it All"
9. My Morning Jacket, "Evil Urges"
10. Mariah Carey, "EMC2": Wait -- Mariah released an album this year? You'd be forgiven if that was your first thought, because this album disappeared almost as fast as "Glitter" after she became Mrs. Nick Cannon. But it deserved to stay around longer. Like its predecessor, "The Emancipation of Mimi," it has the right mix of party jams, torch songs and touching ballads.

Mariah's 2008 Sales Rankings on iTunes
iTunes has released their sales rankings for 2008. Here are Mariah's positions:

Top Songs
"Touch My Body" #51

Top Albums
E=MC² #40

Music Videos
"Touch My Body" #3 on Pop

Meanwhile, in the new issue of Blender magazine, the Danja-produced Mariah song, "Migrate" featuring T-Pain, was named the 22nd Must-Have Song of 2008. Here's what they said about "Migrate."

"Geese do it. Swallows do it. And on this song, when the club gets lame, Mimi does it - heads for warmer climates/flyer after parties. All the while, Danja's airy beat ingeniously mimics her upper-octave trills."

And in Yahoo! Music's Chart Watch, Mariah is #8 on Paul Grein's 40 Most Popular Christmas Albums of All Time.

8. Mariah Carey, Merry Christmas, 4,937,000. This 1994 smash features the zesty "All I Want For Christmas Is You," which just this week became the first holiday song to sell 1 million downloads. Carey released the album in between her blockbusters Music Box and Daydream.

UK Single Reviews: "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time"

Digital Single Cover
• From Digital Spy:
Mariah Carey
"I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time"
Released on Monday, Sept. 1, 2008
By Nick Levine, Music Editor

The third single from her E=MC² album sticks rigidly to the formula that made Mariah a superstar again after the Glitter fiasco: midtempo R&B beats, cooing choruses and a vocal performance that's surprisingly restrained from a woman with eight octaves at her disposal and noone to tell her what to do.

Yet, in spite of its predictability, 'I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time' still makes for a satisfying listen, sounding classy, effortless and as summery as a glass of rosé in the garden after a work. Plus, as with most things Mariah does these days, there's an intriguing hint of strangeness lurking just beneath the surface - who else would name a song about eternal devotion after a line from Full Metal Jacket?

• From Manchester Evening News:
Mariah Carey - I'll Be Lovin' You Long Time (Mercury)
By Glenn Meads
September 1, 2008

Touch My Body may not have been the best single to launch the brilliant E=MC², but this soulful sure-fire hit more than makes up for it.

With an old skool backing and wonderfully rich vocals (but not overdone) this is Mariah at her very best.

Summer may have faded quicker than your non-existent tan, but Ms Carey will ensure that she brings sunshine direct to your iPod with this superb single. Released on September 1.

"I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" is now available for download at iTunes UK for £0.79. It is currently at #77 on Top 100 Pop Songs.

Billboard Reviews "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time"
I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time
MARIAH CAREY

Producers: Aldrin "DJ Toomp" Davis, Mariah Carey
Label: Island

Lady Mariah's third single from 11th album "E=MC2--following chart-topping "Touch My Body" and top 20 "Bye Bye"--energizes the beat following the previous pair of midtempo soul tracks. "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" offers a playful, beach-befitting groove, featuring a bright sample from DeBarge's "Stay With Me," lushly woven vocals and Carey's highs doting on fans with her sonic signature. T.I. joins the party with a rap that adds star power, if in a dated context. Beyond radio appeal, "Lovin'" is featured in an Indaba Music remix contest, with a $5,000 prize for the victor. Curiously, it garnered dubious acclaim as Carey's first single to debut on the Billboard Hot 100 as low as No. 100, but that's surely a temporary blip; it's already charted as her 45th entry on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. In short order, "Long Time" will be blaring across formats, and radios, from coast to coast. --Chuck Taylor

Cri$tyle Talks About Mariah in Australian Interview
The Australian hip-hop and R&B magazine Rhyme & Reason recently had the opportunity to chat with Cri$tyle 'The Ink' Johnson, the songwriter responsible for co-penning Mariah's smash hit "Touch My Body," along with several other cuts off E=MC² including; "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time," "Cruise Control," "Side Effects," and "Heat."

"Touch My Body" is a very playful song, and perhaps Mariah's most raunchy to date. Were there any apprehensions about taking that direction with the song?
Nah, Mariah loves to have fun and be sexy all at the same time. We laughed a lot during the writing process, so there wasn't any hesitation with writing that one.

I understand you have just hit the studio with Mariah once again to work on a remix. What can you tell us about the track?
We're working on a special project that I'm really excited about. I'm not really at liberty to talk about it right now, but Mariah fans are going to be in for a huge treat!

While you have forged a strong relationship with Mariah, there must be instances where you don't connect with your collaborator on a personal level. How does this affect the creative process?
Everytime I work with an artist, I try to become them for that moment. That way I can write the song as if I am that person, going through whatever they may be going through. So as far as the music is concerned, I channel the artist whether there is a connection or not. But it was a lot more fun workin' with MC because of the friendship that was developed. A lot more laughs than usual. [Laughing]

"I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" REMIX Contest

Professionals and amateurs alike will have the chance to remix the third single from Mariah Carey's platinum-plus album "E=MC2" via a contest hosted on a startup social network Web site for musicians, Billboard has learned.

Starting July 15, the complete stems of "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time," from Carey's Island release, will be made available to the members of Indaba Music, an online community for aspiring and established producers and artists.

"Mariah is the queen of the remix," manager Mark Sudack says, citing the pop star's work with dance producers like David Morales -- for whom she resang the vocals of 1993's "Dreamlover" -- and Junior Vasquez, as well as hip-hop greats like Sean "Diddy" Combs, DJ Clue, Ol' Dirty Bastard and the Lox. "This contest is a way for her to continue being a pioneer in the remix world, potentially finding a new sound, a new power, a new energy in the online space, as opposed to just the go-to producers of the moment."

The contest involves elements of fan voting, user-generated content and social networking. Entrants must join Indaba by creating a profile and can then download the song stems, work on their mix and submit it via the site by August 26. The Indaba community will pick its 10 favorite mixes via online voting. Three judges -- including Sudack, who co-executive-produced "E=MC2" -- will then select the winner. The producer of the winning mix will receive $5,000, be designated as Carey's No. 1 MySpace friend for four weeks and possibly have his or her work released.

The contest is more than just a unique way to promote the single, according to Sudack. "It's a marketing tool as much as it is a contest," he says. "But nowadays all you need is a laptop and a drum machine, and you have all the equipment that you need to go and make something that's hot and sounds special. There's so much potential talent out there that's untapped. You could have the next Jermaine Dupri sitting in a room somewhere, and he's got all the talent and all this genius with just no options to connect the dots."

"I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" Out in UK September 1st
Mariah is moving swiftly on to single number three from her generally very impressive E=MC2 album.

It's called 'I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time' and it ticks all the boxes for a modern-day Mariah smash. Mid-tempo R&B beat? Check. Gushingly romantic lyrics? You betcha. Guest appearance from a trendy rapper? Yup, here's T.I. for ya! And she's nice and restrained with the old vocals too.

Original it ain't, but 'Long Time' does have that touch of class that 'Bye Bye' seemed to lack. It's also got a definite Kanye West feel to it, which makes sense seeing as it was co-produced by DJ Toomp, who contributed to West's Graduation album. The UK release date is September 1.

Pitchfork Reviews "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time"
Video: Mariah Carey [ft. T.I.]: "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time"
In which Mariah Carey rides a dolphin and looks good doing it. The song's laidback beat, syncopated piano, occasional ascending strings, and pleasant T.I. verse make "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" a pretty perfect roller rink jam, and that's not even mentioning the fact that Carey hilariously makes a catchy chorus out of a reference to the "me so horny" line from Full Metal Jacket. At the very least, it's a nice breather in between repeat listens of "Love in This Club".

FMQB's Burke Reviews "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time"

BURKE'S BEST BET
MARIAH CAREY
"I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time"
(Island/IDJMG)

Summertime is here and MC is heating things up again with her third single from, E=MC2. The tempo-driven "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" was a track that we first picked when we heard the album and it's even better now with the addition of a new re-mix featuring Hip-Hop star T.I. It's a total "groove record" whose retro feel is a breath of fresh air for a format that often puts more emphasis on beats and not necessarily melody. This MC track has both and is sure to connect with MC's core fans and beyond. BET ON IT!

Grammys Midway: Is this Mariah Carey's year?
Todd Martens of the LA Times Blogs gives a look at some of the more notable releases of late 2007 and the first half of 2008, and how they may fare come Grammy time. Below is his write-up for Mariah's E=MC²:

Mariah Carey, "E=MC2." The pop diva's follow-up to the Grammy-adored "Emancipation of Mimi."

Grammy possibilities: Carey's "Mimi" marked a huge comeback for the artist, a much-needed return to form after the commercial/critical disappointments that were "Glitter" and "Charmbracelet." Recording Academy voters were apparently delighted that the megastar rebounded, and responded by awarding Carey 8 Grammy nominations, including album of the year. "E=MC2" closely follows the "Mimi" template, and at times feels like a track-by-track response (substitute "It's Like That" for "Migrate"), but audiences don't seem to mind. The album is still in the top 25 on U.S. pop charts two months after its release, and the album has already spawned two hit singles in "Touch My Body" and "Bye Bye." Carey will undoubtedly be awarded with a bevy of Grammy nominations, but don't bet on "E=MC2" scoring as many as "Mimi," and it likely won't be a favorite for an album of the year nod. It too closely sticks to the "Mimi" template.

Grammy deserving: Does it really matter? One of the best-selling artists of all time, Carey is more than critic-proof, and "E=MC2" likely didn't do anything to change anyone's mind about the singer. It's finely-produced dance-pop crafted by an assortment of the industry's highest-paid producers, and the strongest tracks are worthy representations of mainstream trends. But as a whole, "E=MC2" is responding to pop fashions rather than defining them.

"I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" Remix Review
T.I. Buys Mariah Expensive Luggage

Mariah Carey feat. T.I.
"I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" (Remix)

By Ryan Dombal, Rating:

A couple months ago, we named "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" (IBLULT) the best track on MC's recent E=MC² album and while this new remix doesn't necessarily make it that much better, we'll never complain about a breezy T.I. verse. The rapper is in "My Love" guest shot mode here, offering his lady expensive gifts (though we're pretty sure Mariah can buy her own Louis Vuitton). Still, the beat -- produced by T.I. buddy DJ Toomp-- is the star: perfect for your top-down beach drives and/or the soundtrack to The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2. Mariah is in a pure pop mood, keeping her trademark vocal runs in check while sticking close to the melody. A late, great entry into the Song of the Summer Sweepstakes.

"I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" Video Shoot
A day-by-day account of the filming of Mariah's music video to her new single, "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" in Hawaii by Tim Ryan.

Sunday, June 8
Mariah Carey had a busy day. After keeping her production crew waiting some four hours Sunday she finally arrived in Portlock from the Paul Mitchell Estate in Lanikai to shoot a portion of her music video at the cliffside home of Rob Burns who founded the surf company Local Motion. Problem is Carey had a personal trailer waiting for her at the elementary school in Koko Head where she was to have her hair, makeup and costuming done. The diva's makeup and costumes had to be driven to the cliffside location where she was made up. Filming was completed around sunset and Carey was whisked back to Lanikai where she partied with friends until around 11 p.m. She then was driven to Hawaiian Adventures Water Park for more filming. That shoot lasted to 5 a.m.

Monday, June 9
Today's filming is also at night but at Sea Life Park. If the video is not completed today Carey and accompany will return to SLP tomorrow. Husband Nick Cannon, who arrived Saturday evening, stopped by Tiffany's in Waikiki in a limousine and with a bodyguard on his way to Lanikai to buy his bride some jewelry. Notable security company Private Security owned by Charlie Long has had three guards protecting Carey and company during the shoot. The couple have settled into the Kahala Resort for a few days.

Tuesday, June 10
Mariah Carey pulled another all nighter last night at Sea Life Park where she filmed the remainder of her music video until about 4 a.m. The diva arrived just before 5 p.m. in a white gown. Park security made a sweep of the grounds to make sure visitors were out of the park at the 5 p.m. closing time. Despite the security someone caught most of the filming on a hand held HD camera. Part of the video has Carey on the small island in the dolphin pool. Now that the filming is over Carey and her husband Nick Cannon are enjoying a brief honeymoon at the Kahala Resort.

Mariah's Interview with Channel NewsAsia, Singapore
Mariah to the Second Power
[ Stream or Download ]

We all know what pop diva Mariah Carey's first power is: her five-octave vocal range that could raise the ceiling.

But, what about her second power?

The vocal powerhouse's eleventh and latest studio album 'E=MC2', was titled with a play on Einstein's famous mass-energy equivalence formula. The full title of the album expands to 'Emancipation equals Mariah Carey to the second power'.

And we're making a not-so-wild guess here, but her second 'power' could just refer to her songwriting.

Not unlike previous albums, the 38-year-old songstress has written or co-written all the songs on her album, and the lyrics might just be powerful and heartfelt enough to trigger tears.

"The album has a lot of ballads and a lot of very personal songs," Mariah told Channel NewsAsia when she was in Japan recently for the MTV Video Music Awards.

Perhaps the most personal song would be her second single 'Bye Bye', which she wrote after her father passed away from cancer. But the singer also said that the song is universal and is extended to anyone who has lost a loved one.

"A lot of lines in that song are completely personal in terms of my father... I lost my father to cancer" she said.

"A lot of my friends have lost people who were very close to them in their lives and they have been with me so in a way I also wrote it for my friends, I wrote it for myself, and I wrote it for whoever who gets the album, listens to the song, gets the message, and needs it.

"The lyrics go 'Everyday life goes on, I wish I could talk to you for a while, I wish I could try to find a way not to cry...' So it's like my regular life is still going on and that's where we keep our act together and make it okay.

"There are still happy times but there are moments when you reflect on losing people or people you miss and you have to deal with that."

Apart from lost love, Mariah also wrote about new found love. The songbird and her actor beau Nick Cannon were recently married in the Bahamas, and she said tracks on the album reflect their love although they were written before the couple got together.

"I didn't write this album when we were together but it seems like that now so I feel like everything falls into place for a reason," Mariah explained.

"There are just some things that are meant to be and I believe in that. I think people have always felt that it's an unrealistic goal to meet someone and really have a true connection with him, but its not. Anything is possible if you believe in it and you really, really have faith.

"This is how my life has always been, whether it's good times or bad times, things happen for a reason and you get through them in order to get to better places. And that's my philosophy about life."

And the diva is back at the top of the charts, where she belongs. 'E=MC2' debuted at first place on the Billboard 200, with more than 463, 000 copies sold and making it the biggest opening week sales in her career.

The album stayed at at the top spot for two consecutive weeks and first single 'Touch My Body' reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

"The album is very personal... so to incorporate my name into the title in that way was kind of a wink and a smile," said the singer. "This album is a lot of fun... MC is my nickname so it's kind of like Mariah Carey to the second power. Just jokes, but we might as well have a good time with (the album)."

Chris Applebaum To Direct "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" Video
As previously reported, in the press conference for E=MC² at The Peninsula Tokyo Monday, June 2nd, Mariah confirmed that her next single will be "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time." Listen to an audio clip from Ritcher's (Universal China) interview with Mariah in which she talks about the video to the song.

[ Download an audio file ]

"What do I know about the video? I know that it's gonna utilize a lot of the beautiful nature obviously that you get when you go to Hawaii. It's a gorgeous place. And I don't wanna be talking about some...to my idea before I put it out there but there's another element to it that's really fun that I don't think anyone else has done yet. So I'm kind of looking forward to that. Chris Applebaum is the director. I've never worked with him, but I really like his work."

[Chris Applebaum's most recent work includes directing music videos for Rihanna ("Umbrella"), Mary J. Blige ("Just Fine") and Jonas Brothers ("SOS"); and television commercials for Old Spice, Carl's Jr., Cover Girl, Hugo Boss. He received MTV's 2007 Video of the Year Award for Rihanna's "Umbrella."]

In more news from the Chinese press, according to reports from Apple Daily Hong Kong and Apple Daily Taiwan, Mariah was late for 7 hours to the press conference at The Peninsula Tokyo. She was scheduled to be there at 5:00pm but didn't show up until midnight. The photo call only lasted for 20 seconds and each journalist could only ask one question. Mariah said she will go to Hawaii to shoot the music video to "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" but Nick won't be going with her but will meet her there a few days later. Mariah said originally she wanted to invite Nick Cannon to be in the "Touch My Body" video but couldn't make it in the end. She plans on having kids but not now because she is planning to tour.

Below are more photos from the press conference, and scans from the Chinese newspapers, Oriental Daily and The Sun.

Mariah's On Fire: Diva Notches Sixth No. 1 Album
• Mariah Carey crowns the Billboard 200 for a sixth time as "E=MC2" starts atop the tally with 463,000 -- her biggest opening week. It's also the highest sales week of the year, surpassing the 375,000 start of Jack Johnson's "Sleep Through the Static" in February. Finally, "E=MC2" marks the best opening week for any album since Mary J. Blige's "Growing Pains" started with 629,000.

• Carey is now tied with fellow divas Madonna and Janet Jackson for the second most No. 1 albums among female artists. Only queen bee Barbra Streisand, with eight, is ahead of the pack.

• "E=MC2" is the eighth debut at No. 1 in as many weeks on the fast-moving Billboard 200. It follows penthouse-bows from Jackson, Alan Jackson, Rick Ross, Danity Kane, Day26, George Strait and Leona Lewis.

• Carey's last album, "The Emancipation of Mimi," also landed at No. 1 in its premier week, moving 404,000. "Mimi" spent two weeks atop the chart, was the best-selling album in the United States in 2005 and has shifted 5.8 million units total... This is the first time Carey has scored back-to-back No. 1 albums since "Daydream" and "Butterfly" reached the top in 1995 and 1997.

• Collectively, Carey's albums have sold 50 million copies in the United States since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking sales data in 1991. She's the third-biggest-selling albums artist in the SoundScan era, trailing only Garth Brooks (67.8 million) and the Beatles (56.2 million).

Mariah Carey's E=MC2 Album Enters at #1, on Career-High First Week Soundscan Sales of 463,000!!!

'TOUCH MY BODY' - HER 18th #1 HIT, AND 79th CAREER WEEK AT #1 - SETS HISTORIC CHART RECORD, SURPASSING ELVIS PRESLEY's 17 #1's, AND TYING HIS ALL-TIME HIGH 79 WEEKS AT #1

'Bye Bye' is next - impacts at Pop, Rhythmic and Urban radio formats and is #1 most added across the board

APRIL 25th ON ABC TV: Mariah returns to Good Morning America for traffic-stopping live outdoor concert at New York City's Times Square

An unprecedented pre- and post-release campaign -- including appearances on NBC's Saturday Night Live, MTV's The Hills, BET's concert special, FOX's IDOL Gives Back and American Idol, and The Oprah Winfrey Show -- maximized exposure for international superstar Mariah Carey and her current smash hits, the #1 "Touch My Body" and #1 most added "Bye Bye," resulting in a massive #1 debut on the Billboard 200 albums chart for E=MC2 (in stores April 15th), weighing in with first week Soundscan sales of 463,000 units. E=MC2 also debuts #1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop albums chart and #1 on the Top Digital albums chart (Mariah's first-ever #1 digital album debut with over 50,000 scanned!). E=MC2 represents the biggest first week debut of Mariah's career!!!

"Mariah's an inspiration, the true definition of a star," said Antonio 'L.A.' Reid, Chairman, Island Def Jam Music Group. "She continues to amaze us with every incredible new album she creates. Now Mariah has added another plateau of success to what has become her virtually unapproachable track record on charts around the world. She proves beyond a doubt that with talent, ambition, and sheer force of will, all things are possible."

TV appearances continue this Friday, April 25th on ABC, when Mariah returns to Good Morning America for a live outdoor concert with New York's Times Square as her backdrop. Three years to the month since she first shut down traffic outside GMA's studios on 44th Street to celebrate the release week of The Emancipation Of Mimi, Mariah will once again welcome thousands of fans to the event, slated between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. She then hurries uptown for a guest appearance on Live with Regis & Kelly.

Mariah reached an historic career achievement earlier this month when "Touch My Body" became her 18th #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 - surpassing one of the most enduring chart records in Billboard history, Elvis Presley's 17 #1's. "Touch My Body"'s two weeks at the top marked Mariah's 78th and 79th cumulative career weeks at #1, which tied Elvis' long-standing all-time high of 79 weeks at #1, as calculated in Billboard. At the same time, Mariah is now positioned as the only active recording artist in the 50 years of the Hot 100 (which began in 1958) with the potential to surpass the Beatles' all-time high of 20 #1 hits.

"Touch My Body" took over the #1 spot with an all-time record-setting 286,000 debut week on the Billboard Hot Digital Songs chart. The video, directed by feature filmmaker Brett Ratner, and featuring a cameo by Jack McBrayer (30 Rock's Kenneth Parcell), stays in rotation on VH1, VH1 Soul, BET and 106 & Park, and FUSE; as well as #1 at Yahoo Music Video. "Touch My Body" also topped the AOL video charts for several weeks.

Clear Channel Online played a major part in the Mariah Carey promotion, simultaneously launching "Touch My Body" as it went to radio. The song was played over 400,000 times in one week and debuted at #1 on the On-Demand Chart. Tracks from E=MC2 were also featured in Clear Channel's Sneak Peak promotion a week before the album was released.

"Bye Bye" impacted across-the-board at Pop, Rhythmic, and Urban radio formats on Monday, April 21 and is #1 most added across the board.

Leading up to the release of E=MC2, "Touch My Body" was one of two songs (along with "Migrate") that were performed by Mariah last month on NBC's Saturday Night Live, hosted by Jonah Hill, the show to be re-run on May 3rd. Earlier this month, Mariah gave a special performance of "Touch My Body" and "We Belong Together" after the season premiere of the MTV reality series, "The Hills." The episode set a year-to-date record as the highest rated telecast on cable TV.

On April 9th, Mariah joined an all-star cast for the second annual "IDOL Gives Back" two-hour TV special, a music celebration raising awareness and benefiting various U.S. and international charities. The following Monday, April 14th, Mariah appeared as special guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show, chatting with the host and performing "Bye Bye." The next day, as E=MC2 was released, Mariah began a two-night stint on American Idol, serving as musical mentor to that week's finalists on night one, and performing "Bye Bye" on night two.

"Touch My Body" was produced by Mariah Carey, C. "Tricky" Stewart, and fellow Island Def Jam artist The-Dream. Other guest producers joining Mariah on E=MC2 include Jermaine Dupri, DJ Toomp, Stargate, Will I Am, Bryan Michael Cox, Nate "Danjahandz" Hills and James Poyser. The album is executive produced by Mariah Carey and Antonio "LA" Reid, Chairman, Island Def Jam Music Group.

The 11th studio album of her career, E=MC2 follows-up The Emancipation Of Mimi, Mariah's worldwide 10 million selling #1 album, which generated three Grammy awards (including Best Contemporary R&B Album), two #1 singles, and countless more honors during its 18-month stay on the charts. Released April 12, 2005, Mimi was an industry phenomenon for the mega-platinum award-winning superstar. Soundscan's biggest-selling album of the year, it brought total sales of Mariah's albums, singles and videos to over 160 million worldwide, making her the top-selling female recording artist in history.

Mariah at CD Signing in Universal City Walk, LA

Mariah made an appearance last night at the Hard Rock Cafe in Universal City Walk, Los Angeles to promote her new album, E=MC².

Upon arrival at the Hard Rock Cafe at around 7:00pm, Mariah proceeded to a private room where a donation ceremony was held. She donated the Rhinestone Microphone and Microphone Stand she used on Oprah, Idol Gives Back and on American Idol to Hard Rock Cafe's world famous memorabilia collection. Following the ceremony, Mariah walked the purple carpet and posed for photographs. She was then led to a mounted stage across the Hard Rock Cafe where the CD signing event took place.

Thousands of fans came out to support and celebrate the release of Mariah's new album. Close friend & rapper Da Brat and actor Nick Cannon (co-starring in the "Bye Bye" music video) were also there to lend their support.

At around 11pm, fans from the left side of the stage kept the event festive by singing Mariah's songs. Mariah was loving it! The video on right shows Mariah singing along to "Love Story" and "Touch My Body."

The signing event ended at around 2:00am.

Danielle
Finally at around eight p.m., the doors to the Hard Rock opened to a fury of lens flashes, as first Mariah's long time friend and collaborator Da Brat practically skated down the carpet; she walked so fast. Mariah was ushered out by a swarm of security, publicist, and her manager Benny Medina. She didn't stop to offer interviews, but she did turn and pose in all directions every few feet her so. And though the sun had set, she donned her trademark tinted sunglasses. Perhaps it was because she was tired or perhaps just to go with her ensemble (black on black), but whatever the case, after the week she's had, who could blame her?

The line of fans snaked around the Hard Rock and up to the second floor walkways, but Mariah calmly sat and signed CD after CD. Some fans brought gifts; others brought signs; but all came prepared with a message of how much Mariah means to them, and as they inched closer after hours of waiting, it was blatantly obvious just how many (and how much) she has touched men and women (and girls and boys) all over the world.

Michael
During the entire signing she not only signed the presented item, but she constantly acknowledged everyone in her audience singing along to her music in the background, or commenting back to people. Beside her was Da Brat and some friends welcoming and commenting to the people. After about 11pm, Mariah was expressing how festive things are as Benny Medina her manager constantly promoted new mixes to the audience, the fans began singing to Mariah as she would sing along and waving and grooving to her songs. We yelled how we are going oldskool and Mariah replied, 'Sing Always Be My Baby, that always makes me happy.' We go singing Always be My Baby, then Touch My Body, then Cruise Control. During Cruise Control, Da Brat came out and sang with the crowd. It was such a wonderful night, I wanna thank Mariah for being real and dedicated to her fans. She loved my shirt of the albums and stated how she wanted the shirt but they wouldn't let her use her images, I then responded that i got the images from her show. She was impressed by the fans, their comments, tattoos and so forth. It was a dream come true!

Mikey
Me and my cousin drove down to Universal Citywalk and arrived at 2:30pm. We had checked in at the FYE booth for getting our wristbands. At 5:30pm, the line wrapped up around 4 stairways to the overpass of the entrance to the car parking lot. Unfortunately, that was where I would start my time of waiting to meet Mariah. My cousin would be down in the pit where all the action would start. Observing the atmosphere, I wanted to see what all the Mariah fans were about. Words to describe her fans: creative, chaotic, and diverse. The craziest thing I saw a person bring to the line of the signing was the hood of their car. The security were very professional and calm. And the waiting started. Mariah was scheduled to arrive at 6pm but was 2 hours late. The line would move in small pace movements. The citywalk was entertaining the crowds by playing her new album E=MC² on repeat. At 11pm, I was feeling so many emotions at the same time: hungry, nervous, and chilly. I was still having great doubts about having time to meet her before she leaves.

At 12am, Citywalk lights are still on but the music is off. The walkways are empty with just a huddled crowd of Stand Bys waiting to be seen by Mariah. I was at the home stretch. Da Brat was walking around taking pictures and signing autographs. I was ready to approach the stage as my heart was pounding so freakin' hard. I was at the stairs where security confiscated the items. Still this is my second time meeting Mariah but this was a little bit more personal. She was staring dead right at me. One word to describe her is: FLAWLESS. Her body and face is in tip-top shape. I told her like goober: "Words cannot express how much I love you and how much you mean to me." The reply: "Thank You" in her Mimi voice. The seconds were over and it was called a night. Overall, the experience was a long wait but well worth it. I feel like I was a little lucky though because I still could have gotten the cut and sent home. It felt like an audition. Luck of the draw. But I would say memorable night overall. Mariah fan for life!

Albert
I couldn't see Mariah from where I was at, and as I got closer to the stage confetti began shooting out. The security checked our wristbands 3 times, and they asked me to pull out the album poster. I was struggling to get it out, and I walked up the stairs, the security told me, "No cameras," so i put it in my pocket. I was next and I was trying to open the poster when they said, "You're up," and I just handed the closed poster to her, I thought she was going to sign the closed part of the poster, but she literally opened the whole poster up and spread it out. I was going to hand her the album so she could sign the front and it'd be easier, but her security said, "One thing only!" and I remembered from the perfume signing that I forgot to tell Mariah my name, so i said, "Hi, I'm Albert!" and she nodded and mouthed a, "yes and hi," and her security on my left said, "No names, no names!" and I was going to ask Mariah a question but since there were over 1,000 people there, there wasn't any time, and it was so loud with all the music and fans screaming. I told her, "Thank you for helping me to keep going." and she mouthed, "Aww, thank you." She handed me the album poster, and as I was walking down I kept looking in her eyes, and I'll never forget her eyes, behind her sparkly sunglasses. I could see her still looking in my eyes as I was going down the steps, and I'm amazed I didn't fall down the stairs but when I looked into her eyes I saw her and her past, she's very deep, and I think she saw the same in me. I went down the stairs and scooped some confetti and put in an envelope I had.

That same week she had done appearances on Oprah in Chicago, and American Idol in LA. Back and forth on those planes must be exhausting and then to come out and meet over 1,000 fans. I give her a lot of credit. Noone in the industry today works that hard. She deserves all the fame and her spot at #1. What an adventure I truly had.

MARIAH CAREY - E=MC² : OUT EVERYWHERE NOW!

On behalf of MariahDaily.com and her fans worldwide, we would like to wish Mariah a huge congratulations on the release of her 11th studio album E=MC²! Well worth the three year wait since her record breaking The Emancipation of Mimi, this CD has already been delighting audiences with the catchy "Touch My Body." The song recently topped the Billboard Hot 100 charts (Emancipated 18th! Yaaay!), making it her 18th number one single and beating Elvis Presley's record, making her second only to The Beatles.

That was just the beginning. Mariah's second single, the powerful ballad "Bye Bye" is already making waves on radio and iTunes following her emotional performance on the Oprah Winfrey Show on Monday and American Idol on Wednesday.

Mariah has co-written and co-produced every song on the album which is already being referred to as her best (Blender: "E=MC² is Carey's most-fun album, and her best."). Joined by producers like Danja, Stargate, The-Dream, Swizz Beats and DJ Toomp, previous collaborators Bryan Michael Cox, James Poyser and long time friend Jermaine Dupri, the album varies from heavy hip-hop beats to sweet pop tunes, soulful R&B ballads and a closing track that shames no gospel artist.

Mariah gives us a look into her personality through the songs - from the personal lyrics of "Side Effects" to the haunting "I Wish You Well", the universal anthem that is "Bye Bye", the fun and playful "Touch My Body", the flirtatious "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" and the edgy sarcasm of "Thanx 4 Nothin'".

All that before getting to the brilliant vocal layering of "Last Kiss", the clever use of vocoder in "Migrate", the beautiful backing vocals in "Love Story", the addictive singing style in "O.O.C." and the always breathtaking melodies and vocals in the entire album.

• Mariah on the title, E=MC²: The name of the album is E=MC² which is pretty funny because I failed Remedial Math and I can barely add [laughs] so it's kind of like you know a little bit of a joke there and poking fun at myself but it also has a lot to do with the fact the last album, The Emancipation of Mimi, would be the "E" Emancipation equals I guess we can explain it by saying Emancipation equals Mariah Carey to the second power so it's kind of like you know, it's kind of one of those things that I'm having a good time with but it also really represents just feeling free and making music that makes me happy.

• This album is truly a labor of love for Mariah. She started writing for it shortly after wrapping up Mimi and has been recording it for the past 9 months. She says: "These past two albums, Mimi and this new album E=MC², are really representative of the true me, and having fun and taking things not too seriously, yet also being able to reveal a lot of who I really am to the world, which is not an easy thing to do."

• Mariah collaborated with a few female writers on this album: Crystal "Cri$tyle" Johnson ("Cruise Control", "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time", "Side Effects", "Touch My Body"), Maryann Tatum ("I Wish You Well") and Da Brat ("O.O.C.") who all helped crafting these songs from a female point of view.

• Two additional songs: "Heat" and "4Real4Real" (ft. Da Brat) are available on international editions of the album. Click here to order the UK version (15 tracks and backcover with photo) and here to order the Japanese version (16 tracks).

• During Mariah's appearance on the Oprah show, she talked about how she had to rush the album "Thank You" notes because the schedule for the album's pressing was very tight. She also told fans that the booklet was supposed to have more pictures in it but "someone messed up".

With Huge First Day, Mariah On Track For No. 1 Debut
Mariah Carey looks certain to debut at No. 1 on next week's Billboard 200 with "E=MC²," based on massive first-day sales from the nine chains that report to Nielsen SoundScan's Building Chart.

Unweighted sales for the Island Def Jam album are at 154,000 units on the report released today (April 16). That's more than five times the total garnered by the current chart-topper, Leona Lewis' "Spirit" (Syco/J).

By comparison, Carrie Underwood's "Carnival Ride" (Arista Nashville) had first-day sales of 150,000 and wound up shifting 527,000 in its first week.

Billboard estimates that the merchants who report to the Building Chart -- Trans World Entertainment, Starbucks, Best Buy, Circuit City, iTunes, Border's, Target, Anderson Merchandisers, and Handleman Co. -- represent 80% of the U.S. retail market.

Carey's last release, 2005's "The Emancipation of Mimi," debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 404,000 copies.

Island's Mariah Magic
Label Pulls Off Incredible Idol/Oprah Parlay for Carey's New Album

Island is pulling out all the stops for the release of Mariah Carey's new album, E=MC², the 11th of her career, on April 15.

It's her first release since 2005's massive comeback The Emancipation of Mimi, which topped the year-end charts, selling 10 million copies worldwide and nabbing three Grammys.

"When I came in, I realized Mariah was already on track," says IDJ Chairman Antonio "L.A." Reid about Mimi's success. "All she needed was someone to believe and bounce her ideas off. More than anything, my contribution might have been to inject confidence because she's amazing. I honestly can't take credit for anything except being in the right place at the right time with an artist who was already very dedicated to what she does."

The first single, "Touch My Body," just became Carey's 18th career #1 single, surpassing Elvis Presley's record of 17, and second only to The Beatles' 20, with an airplay audience of more than 115 million. The video is #1 on the Yahoo Music video chart, Yahoo Launchcast and AOL Music. A customized online Mariah widget has been viewed over 4.26 million times.

Mariah will appear on a pair of American Idol shows, including the Idol Gives Back two-hour special on April 9 and, on the week of release, April 16, she will perform on the hit Fox show as a musical mentor to the finalists. She will be a special guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show on April 14, a day before the album hits stores.

Reid gives full credit for the rollout to IDJ publicity queen Laura Swanson, stating: "She understands how to launch a superstar."

"Mariah's talent is truly unbelievable," says IDJMG President/COO Steve Bartels. "She made it easy for us by delivering an incredible album. The success of the first single was phenomenal, and the entire staff is working tirelessly to make sure we make this the biggest launch, and year, for Mariah ever."

The superstar diva performed "Touch My Body" on SNL last month, an episode that will be rerun May 3. Last week, she performed the song, along with "We Belong Together," after the season premiere of MTV's hit series, The Hills.

Other TV appearances are slated for Live With Regis & Kelly, Good Morning America and The View, with Allure and Parade magazine covers also on tap.

The new single, "Bye Bye," was rush-released to radio this week after leaking.

"I just tried to get all the right ingredients in the pot and know when to turn the fire off," laughs Reid when asked about first-week sales estimates. "I'm a poet, so I can't add. I don't talk numbers. Who can say in this climate? I can't put my finger on it, but it feels good."

About the album being postponed a number of times, Reid says: "We wanted to make sure the record was right. We were prepared to release it last November or December, but we didn't want to rush it, so we waited until now."

Total Eclipse Of The Charts
E=MC² vs. Hard Candy
Madonna and Mariah Carey are releasing new albums within weeks of one another--and they're smashing records in the process.

Paris vs. Nicole. Lauren vs. Heidi. Serena vs. Blair. They're all teeny-tiny rivalries compared with the showdown that's about to erupt between Mariah Carey and Madonna. The pop divas, who have reportedly had a brittle relationship for years, are releasing albums within weeks of each other this month--Carey's E=MC² arrives on Tuesday, while Madonna's Hard Candy hits shelves on April 29.

Carey is attempting to duplicate the success of 2005's The Emancipation of Mimi, which sold a whopping 5.8 million copies and was her biggest hit in years after a very public breakdown. Hard Candy, meanwhile, marks the last album of new material that Madonna will make for longtime label Warner Bros. before she embarks on a groundbreaking $120 million deal with concert promoter Live Nation. "I expect Mariah's record to be one of the biggest records of the year," predicts Billboard senior analyst Geoff Mayfield. "You kind of have to wait with Madonna, but the single's very accessible."

So far, both women show no signs of slacking off. Carey's catchy (if underwhelming) first single, "Touch My Body," zoomed to No. 1 on Billboard's Hot 100, unseating diva-in-training Leona Lewis' "Bleeding Love" and making her second only to the Beatles for the most No. 1 hits ever on the chart. "Mariah reinvigorated the younger demo [with Mimi]," says John Ivey, program director for KIIS-FM in L.A. "She has all these kids that now think she's relevant again."

Madonna is working the same strategy, by including Justin Timberlake and Timbaland on her newest single, "4 Minutes." (The duo wrote and produced numerous tracks on Candy.) "The smartest thing she could have done is to have Tim and Justin on the record," says Ivey. "The interesting thing too is that the first cut I heard was a lot more Madonna. The single is a lot less Madonna. The part that sticks in your head, truthfully, is Justin's." Either way, it's paying off: At press time, "4 Minutes" was No. 3 on Billboard's Hot 100, her highest-charting single since 2000's "Music." The song helped nudged her past Elvis Presley to become the artist with the most top 10 singles ever. Still, if you're scoring at home, the first round goes to Mariah.

The true trump card may be the critical reaction. Madonna's Candy, with its hip-hop bent and collaborations with Pharrell Williams, Timberlake, and Timbaland, seems to encroach on Mariah's usual territory. It's a risk, but the uptempo album could be the most mainstream and accessible that Madonna has released in years. Meanwhile, EW has heard E=MC² and can attest that it's a worthy successor to Mimi that will push Glitter even further from our memory.

Mariah: 'My dog has a bigger ego'
MARIAH CAREY E=MC2
Rating:
The Sun UK

It's been a long, long wait - five hours to be precise - hanging around for the world's biggest diva.

In the Premier League of prima donnas, Mariah Carey is a legend. Ahead of Madonna, J-Lo and even Posh, she is the ultimate demanding pop star.

Outside the luxurious Four Seasons George V Hotel in Paris, diehard fans have been camping all day and into the night to catch a glimpse of her. Even the drizzle doesn't dampen their spirits.

After two hours without even a peep from Mariah's people, I'm starting to feel a kinship with the bedraggled hordes.

Finally, we're summoned to the grand meeting room which I enter through a bustle of stylists, managers and bodyguards. The room is bathed in the dim light of flickering candles and there's an ornate gold easel bearing a huge canvas of the album cover for Mariah's latest album E=MC2.

I'm carefully positioned on the left side of a sofa by one of her management team to "get Mariah's best side" as another huge and scary-looking man comes in to inspect the room.

After checking cushions and curtains, he looks straight at me with an accusing glare. I nervously offer him my open bag to be checked until her publicist explains he is only here to check the room's ambience and candlelight levels. But we're only here to do an interview!

Then the door opens and everyone jumps to attention and starts to leave the room as pop royalty glides in.

Though tottering might be a better description as Queen Mariah is wearing a pair of gravity-defying Agent Provocateur platform shoes.

Then suddenly, psssst, she sprays me with something and for a minute I wonder if I have been disinfected as another prerequisite of meeting such a superstar, until I am overwhelmed by floral scent.

Through the evaporating mist I see the white pearly smile of Mariah holding a bottle of perfume. I've been hit by her M By Mariah Carey signature perfume. "Do you like it?" she asks as we sit on the sofa, carefully taking my all-important left side of the sofa.

"Oh, you just sit where you like - anywhere. It doesn't matter where they've told you to sit."

Mariah Carey's last album, 2005's The Emancipation Of Mimi was a career high. It showed the girl from Long Island who had the world at her feet, then lost it, was back.

Einstein
E=MC2 has a similar vibe. Urban, hip-hop and this time, even reggae (on Cruise Control, featuring Damien Marley).

Another album from credible Mariah who this time is light-hearted and enjoying her work. She co-wrote and produced the record alongside an array of eminent names including Bryan-Michael Cox, Danja, Jermaine Dupri, Swizz Beatz, Tricky Stewart, Scott Storch, Stargate, T.I., and will.i.am.

Mariah made history with single Touch My Body last week, overtaking Elvis Presley's total of No1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100. She is now second only to The Beatles.

The accompanying video (featuring a scantily-dressed Mariah alongside Talladega Nights comedian Jack McBrayer) and the Einstein theory album title are, the singer explains, examples of her sense of humour that critics always miss. Laughing, she tells me: "People who take me seriously as a diva have a serious lack of a sense of humour.

"Einstein's theory? Physics? Me? Hello! I even failed remedial math. I could not pass seventh grade math even in the lowest class with the worst kids. Of course I'm poking fun. Have you seen the Touch My Body video? C'mon. Clearly you must see the humour in that. Even the lyrics, 'I will hunt you down'. If anyone doesn't get the joke by this time then they are an idiot."

The title E=MC2 refers to Emancipation of Mimi to the second power. "Basically I'm freer on this album than I've ever been," she coos. "Some of the songs on the last album were cool but maybe not quite as neat as this album. It was actually Jay-Z who told me people needed to see me, what I'm really like. He knows my sense of humour and even my own little words, my own lingo and so it comes across on these songs, like on OOC which stands for Out Of Control."

The hip-hop Mariah seems a world away from the ballad singer who scored a UK No1 in 2000 with Westlife and the cheesy cover of the Phil Collins song Against All Odds. She shrieks: "Aargh! It gets so annoying when people make out I have gone all hip-hop just to get in on a trend. I sang with Ol Dirty Bastard, may he rest in peace, back in 1996 for the remixed version of Fantasy. I love him and I miss him. Working with him was a highlight for me because it was such a random union. But for younger kids on the street, that's the version of Fantasy they know - the line 'Me and Mariah'."

E=MC2 contains some of her frankest lyrics. Bye Bye is an emotional song about the death of her father, who she hardly knew.

On Side Effects, her marriage to and escape from ex-husband, label boss Tommy Mottola, is laid bare with lyrics including Sleepin' with the enemy that he was smothering/So I broke away and finally found the strength to breathe. Mariah explains: "If somebody has the control over you, you're still going to be angry but it's about letting it go. It was therapeutic. The track just made me think of where I am now. It's my story. There is a line about living in a private hell. It is what it is and when I think about it, it stills gives me a weird feeling. I was emotionally cut off in a lot of ways and I still have trust issues. Certain things still really get to me, like people trying to make decisions for me. But I hope that song can heal people who have been in abusive relationships. It's not saying 'pity me' - it's my song for what I went through."

In 2001 Mariah suffered a very public breakdown and her career was deemed over. Her semi-autobiographical film and album Glitter flopped and she had been dropped by Virgin, who she had signed to for a reported $80million after breaking away from Mottola's label, Columbia. Mariah says she has no regrets. "Honestly, I think it was one of the best things that ever happened to me because when you go through something, you come out of it stronger.

"From 2001 to 2005 I had a four-year blip in a career in which I'd already accomplished so much. I look at the scandals other people are in the paper for, well I'm sorry but I barely did anything. So they wrote me off, so what? It's not my problem. I just proved that you can never write yourself off. Ever."

Mariah at 38 (though she never admits to her age, referring to being "eternally 12") is mentally and physically at her best in years. She recently underwent a strict training programme and lost nearly two stone, her 5ft9in tiny size eight frame is evident in the figure-hugging dress she wears today.

"I think people should be a size they're comfortable with but when you're constantly having your picture taken and on TV like I am, well I could see I really did need to lose some of the bulk. I might be doing a workout video, which will be a big joke anyway, but I can show how I did it. I still have curves though."

Mariah laughs off recent comments about her five octave voice not being in the same shape as it was. "I think critics should listen to the album and the last two songs in particular before they say anything about my voice. I think I broke the world record for highest notes and I don't want to sound arrogant but my voice has always been naturally kind of lower but people always expect me to talk like that (puts on high voice) all the time. I have all different parts of my register that requires maintenance and always has. It doesn't bother me as I know what I can do."

Mariah today seems more relaxed and fun than the difficult diva she is portrayed as, and she rolls her eyes at the dreaded D-word. "Ha ha, my dog Jack has a bigger ego than me! We forgot his papers and so had to take him off the private plane. He growled at the flight attendant as he was carried off. He's really started to think he's the star now."

Roger Friedman (Fox News) Reviews E=MC²
Mariah Carey's "E=MC²" comes out on Tuesday, it's the follow up to her smash 2004 "Emancipation of Mimi" album which had a bunch of hits on it. And let me tell you, even I'm surprised. "E=MC²" might be an even bigger chart-topping monster.

A few weeks ago I told you I'd heard some tracks, and went through them. But now the album is done and sequenced. There are songs on it. Remember songs? You will be in love with "Side Effects," one of several real R&B tracks with a gorgeous vocal, a cool rap by Young Jeezy, and lyrics that should make Mariah's ex, Tommy Mottola, do a spit take.

In the song, Carey sings about "waking up scared some nights, still dreaming about the violent times." Is it about Mottola? The lyrics begin: "I was a girl/You were 'the man'/I was too young to understand/I was naive/Believing everything you told me."

And apparently she's still living with "side effects" from "the private hell we built" - "sleeping with the enemy/aware that he was smothering every last part of me." She even addresses Mottola directly: "Said you were strong/protecting me/then I found out that you were weak/keeping me there under your thumb."

Mottola may be hearing that song a lot on the radio since "Side Effects" has a top 40 hook. The Young Jeezy rap only makes it better.

Even more than "Emancipation," "E=MC²" sounds like a jukebox full of singles for the best summer party ever. "I Stay in Love" is a killer ballad, and "Wish You Well" is a gospel-tinged ode to Aretha Franklin's "Natural Woman" that shows off the best of her range. Another track, "Bye Bye" is almost a sequel to Carey's long ago hit with Boyz II Men, "One Sweet Day."

The almost certain no. 1, I think, to extend Carey's long string: "I'll Be Lovin' U A Long Time," in which her production team marries a sample from DeBarge with the hook from "Hill Street Blues" and adds just enough of a new twist to create the most elusive thing of all: a radio smash. "OOC (Out of Control)" is set to shake up dance clubs.

Carey has two weeks on the charts to herself until Madonna comes rolling through with her "Hard Candy." Already the Material Girl is getting a massive amount of airplay for her single with Justin Timberlake. The one two punch of Mariah and Madonna might be just what the nearly dead record biz needs to pick itself up before it's too late.

E=MC² Release Information

With over 160 million albums sold worldwide, Mariah Carey is the most successful female recording artist in history. This year, Mariah returns to the marketplace with E=MC², the follow up to the 10 million selling #1 album, The Emancipation of Mimi.

'Touch My Body' is the deliciously daring first single from the upcoming album release, which has already set records for its massive reception at radio across the Top 40, R&B, R&B/Adult, and Rhythm/Crossover formats. The single exploded onto the charts before official impact on February 19, 2008! Written and produced by Mariah Carey, C 'Tricky' Stewart and The-Dream, 'Touch My Body' sets the stage for the next 'Mimi' world take-over...

Mariah Carey is now positioned as the only active recording artist in the 48 years of the Hot 100 with the potential to surpass the Beatles' all-time high of 20 #1 hits, and has already tied Elvis Presley's record setting 17 #1s.

Executive Produced by Mariah Carey and Antonio "L.A." Reid, E=MC² will include offerings by hit-makers Jermaine Dupri, DJ Toomp, Stargate, will.i.am, Bryan Michael Cox, Nate 'Danjahandz' Hills and James Poyser.

Migrate Lyrics (Official)
Below are the official "Migrate" lyrics! The T-Pain verse however is not official and was transcribed from the Saturday Night Live performance. We'll be happy to receive your additions and corrections to it.

MIGRATE
Written & Produced by:
Mariah Carey
Hills Floyd Nathaniel ("Danja")
Najm Faheem ("T-Pain")
Muhammad Bale Wa M

Bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce
Keep it movin... Bounce
Keep it movin... Bounce
Keep it movin... Bounce
Keep it movin... Bounce

Once again nothin' jumpin' up in yo place,
Sick of your berry buzzin' all in my face,
Way too much to tolerate,
Time to roll,
Y'all know I gots to migrate.

Speed dial connecting me to Rae-Rae (Hey)
Click in Shawntae and Mae-Mae (Hey)
Treat it as a holiday,
Cause he's a wrap,
Y'all know I had to migrate.

See I'm on my way home,
Cause my jeans, yeah they fit,
But it might benefit
Me to throw something on,
To feature my hips,
Accentuate my ****
And steal the show.

Soon as we walk through the door,
Fellas be grabbin' at us like yo,
Tryin' to get us going off the Patron,
We sippin' Grigio... slow.

If your neck and your wrist coordinate,
Hair braided or faded okay,
We can move this back to my place,
It's time to migrate.

From my car into the club we migrate,
From the bar to V.I.P. we migrate,
From the party to the after party, migrate,
After party to hotel, migrate.

As we proceed getting buzzed,
The envious ones,
Hatin' but they can't take they eyes off us,
But we don't see none of that,
They playin' my jam,
And the floor is packed,
So ya'll need to migrate up out the door.

We clickin' glasses,
Compliments of the club,
Raise they status,
So you know they show us love,
Everywhere we go,
They gon' flock,
Them boys migrate to where it's hot.
(It's hot, it's hot)

Soon as we walk through the door,
Fellas be grabbin' at us like yo,
Tryin' to get us going off the Patron,
We sippin' Grigio... slow.

If you're inked up, thuggin'
That's what I like,
Face body and Lamborghini outside,
Obviously boy you're qualified,
Otherwise, migrate.

From my car into the club we migrate,
From the bar to V.I.P. we migrate,
From the party to the after party, migrate,
After party to hotel, migrate.

T-Pain Rap
This is where it begins
And ends at the very same time,
T-Pain the main man of the hour,
Got a flow that'll flex yo tire,
Got stacks plus I'm back with Mariah.
(Mariah laughs)

[___________]

But I gotta migrate to bar,
From the bar to the flo',
From the flo' to the car,
From the car to the crib,
Then back to the club,
We can migrate it all night,
And mini coupe sittin on dubs.

Whatcha waitin' on,
I can't stand in one place,
I need that Patron and I,
Hate when I don't get it my way,
So don't wait for me to buy drinks,
Or you gon' dehydrate,
It's time to migrate.

Soon as I'm walkin' through the door,
They know I'm from the 8-5-0,
I need three bottles of that Patron,
I can make the Chevrolet grease up slow,
If your ... and your ... coordinate,
Tell it to me like it ain't OK,
We can move this back to my place,
Shawty best believe, it's time to migrate.

Soon as we walk through the door,
Fellas be grabbin' at us like yo,
Tryin' to get us going off the Patron,
We sippin' Grigio... slow.

If you're inked up, thuggin'
That's what I like,
Face body and Lamborghini outside,
Obviously boy you're qualified,
Otherwise, Migrate.
(Bye)

Fans Review E=MC² BET Special
Danny, Nik, Rory and Iris were some of the lucky Honey B. Fly fan club members who had the opportunity to be a part of the audience at Mariah's E=MC² Special taping at the BET Studios earlier tonight. These fans got to preview 3 new Mariah songs! Below are their reviews.

Danny
I arrived at BET studios at around 1:30 PM. We waited till about 4pm before we were let into the studios. We had to wait another 3 hours, and the show didn't begin until about 7:30pm.

Migrate: She had to do the song a few times. I really liked it! The first time around I barely understood any of the lyrics because of the heavy bass and all the fans screaming. It is one of her most hip-hop sounding uptempos, and will be perfect for clubs and Urban/Rap radio. T-Pain was there also as a surprise guest.

Touch My Body: Sounded really good with the live instruments. Mariah planned it well with her background performers so that she wouldn't run out of breath due to the overlapping vocals in the song. The crowd loved it and sang along. The end belting was, in my opinion, better than on the record.

Shake It Off: Not much to say here. I was hoping she wouldn't do this song, but I can understand why she did.

Love Story: Rachel's daughter and friends came out and sang the beginning harmonies acapella, then Mariah walked out and continued with them and then into the song itself. None of us knew what song it was, I actually thought it was "Thanks for Nothin'." She gave a very empassioned performance, you could see it in her eyes that she was feeling the lyrics. It was similar to the Mimi ballads, but different at the same time. I can't see it being a single, though it is a good song.

That Chick: WOW! This one left me speechless. By far, my favorite of the night. This was the song I was most looking forward to based on past reviews, and it lived up to all my expectations. First the staff gave out white boas to some people in the audience to wear. Then I heard the beat come instantly I knew it was "That Chick." It is incredible! It is pure disco mixed with a little Michael Jackson, but yet still very modern. Mariah introduced this song as "That Chick You Like," so that could possibly be the real song title. I cannot wait to hear this song again.

We Belong Together: It was a nice performance. I did not hear her cough at the end like other reviews are saying though!

All in all I had a great time seeing Mariah. Some staff members were a little rude at times, but standing 7 hours on my feet was well worth it to be one of the first to hear these new tracks.

Nik
It was amazing! Mariah was on fire! The new songs blew me away. She performed "Migrate," "Touch My Body," "Shake It Off," "Love Story," "That Chick," and "We Belong Together."

They had to do "Migrate" a few times due to technical difficulties. I won't reveal the surprise unless someone else does but a guest came out for that. It's probably one of Mariah's hottest songs in years! The beat is sick! For "That Chick," they gave the audience white feather boas. The song samples a little bit of the lyrics from Michael Jackson's "P.Y.T.," it's a very disco-ish song. "Love Story" is a pure R&B midtempo ballad produced by Jermaine Dupri. Mariah said she was sick but you couldn't tell at all. She did cough at the end of "We Belong Together" after the high note but it was nothing major. They said it will air on April 16th if I'm not mistaken. Mariah also gave a lucky audience member her Roberto Cavalli shades that she said she got in Italy from the designer himself. She said they were one of a kind. That's pretty much it. There was no interview segments just the performances. Overall it was a great time for Mariah fans and a great way to hear the new songs.

Rory
Mariah is hilarious. From the second she came out on stage, Mariah was cracking jokes. Before she came out she was teasing the audience with a few notes here and there, and when she finally came out and started "Migrate," she stopped early on and said "Hold up, stop! I'm sorry... but how in the Sam Hill am I supposed to do this without my sangers..." pointing out the fact that her backup singers were not yet on stage. Then, when they had to restart "Migrate" due to technical difficulties, Mariah goes, "My name is Mariah Carey, and I am a professional. I promise!" Also, during one of the songs she took off her sunglasses and handed them to a girl. She later explained the sunglasses were given to her personally by Roberto Cavalli and that the girl better like them. When asked if she could give someone her ring, she responded, "I would, but, I'm not THAT crazy." Mariah also does a phenomenal Russian accent, and was really lighthearted and funny through all the production and work.

Mariah sounded better than she has in some time. Mariah told the crowd she had a cold, and even started coughing at the end of "We Belong Together," yet somehow sounded incredible. Mariah not only belted out of it when she had to, but it seemed a lot more effortless and easy for her. Her voice sounded extremely clear and strong. Best since the Charmbracelet Tour.

Any of the new songs could be number ones. The songs are extremely catchy, but very original and refreshing. "Migrate" and "That Chick" were definitely my two favorites.

Mariah looked incredible. That body is looking toned and sexy, and her ass and thighs are astonishing. It's funny how much more comfortable she is on stage when she's in great shape, because she wasn't doing any of those awkward poses to look slim, she was just having a great time and it looked so natural. She wore tight black legging-like pants with a tight white tanktop and a tight black sweatshirt over it.

Set List:
1. MIGRATE (featuring T-Pain)
This song is the heat. Wow, Mariah has never done a song with a hip-hop beat this hot, and she rides it confidently and perfectly. The song starts off with the trademark high notes, and launches into a hard beat and she sings over. The song is extremely melodic, and by far one of her best uptempos in some time. T-Pain came out as a surprise guest and tore it up. This will be a single very soon.

2. TOUCH MY BODY
This was Mariah's first time performing "Touch My Body," and she did a great job. She really seemed amused by the audience's love of the "I will hunt you down" line. Then, at the end Mariah got down and did a funny little dance with two of the dancers. You'll have to see it to understand but it's great.

3. SHAKE IT OFF
One of two "oldies" from the Mimi album, Mariah did well but this song really isn't that fascinating live. The crowd wasn't as into it, but it was performed very well.

4. LOVE STORY
This song starts off with Sade (Rachel's daughter) and her two little friends singing backup on stage. The song is in the vein of "We Belong Together" and "Don't Forget About Us" in the sense that it's a ballad with a strong beat, but other than that it stands on its own. Mariah describes a love story and mentions how it's not like in the movies or Casablanca, and there's some fan-freaking-tastic belting at the end that sounds great. My least favorite of the three, but a great song and could definitely be a single later on.

5. THAT CHICK
This song is banging. Much like "Migrate," this is one of the best uptempos Mariah has ever done. The song has been described as disco, and it really really is. They even had disco balls on the screen behind her while she sang it. The song is extremely catchy, she talks about having different flavors like ice cream, and does indeed sound a lot like Ne-Yo's "Because of You." Absolutely has to be a single.

6. WE BELONG TOGETHER
Even though we've seen a million "We Belong Together" performances, I really enjoyed this one because Mariah really seemed to enjoy it. During the belting she was flailing her arms around old-school style, which was great. Like I said before, she started coughing right after the final note, but other than that she sounded great.

Iris
I was there yesterday for MC's fabulous performance. My boyfriend and I arrived at 3:15pm, it was cold and started to rain. About 4:15pm we got inside where the CBS staff demandingly searched everyone. We were then escorted to a waiting room that was extremely stuffy and hot. About 7:15, we were then escorted upstairs, walking in my first impression was WOW! we were lucky enough to get front row (standing) I was right by the stage. Incredible! This experience was truly amazing, MC looked gorgeous, she was joking and having a great time. I actually got to hold her hand 3 times! And we had a moment, during "Shake It Off," I was singing the lyrics and she looked right at me, pointed and smiled!

Set list:
MIGRATE - Hot beat, a stone smash hit! Tthey had to redo the song a couple of times because of some technical issues, MC was like "for the 98th thousandth time" joking.

TOUCH MY BODY - The first time she performed it! MC's voice was on point as usual. The crowd sang along, and she was having a great time.

SHAKE IT OFF - You know how this goes, MC was on point once again! This is the song that MC and I had our moment.

LOVE STORY- Rachel's daughter sang the intro which was nice. This song is one of her slower jams, very intriguing, again she sounded amazing!

THAT CHICK- This was my boyfriend's favorite, he has definitely become a lamb! Awesome track!

WE BELONG TOGETHER - Amazing how with a sore throat and cold, that she can still sound so extraordinary. Plus I never seen a cough look so sexy!

I had a blast, this was an amazing experience, thanks HBF.

French Radio Station Previews E=MC²
A listening party to Mariah's new album was held in Paris, France yesterday (Monday, March 3rd). A DJ from one of the top R&B radio stations in Paris - Ado FM attended the party and wrote the following review, which was translated from French by Camelina.

• Loving You Long Time
They told us the track is not completely mixed yet, which happens sometimes. The track is very good, a nice first listening. It's a mid-tempo with old school influences. The song has a good use of violins and a very catchy chorus. This track doesn't sound like any other track from her previous album.

• Touch My Body
You already know this one, the famous "Touch My Body" first played by 'Ado' weeks ago. This title has the best beginning for a first single from Mimi in the USA since 1997. A big smash for a common title which is not the best album track for me.

• That Chick
'Ooh We eeh', remember this phrase well, it appears in this track produced by Stargate, who produced songs for Ne-Yo (So Sick), Beyonce (Irrepleceable) and Chris Brown (With You). It's a really fresh title. It has positive vibes. I was really seduced by this track which makes me think of "Because of You" by Ne-Yo but the diva brings a special touch with her to it, in a good way.

• For The Record
Having followed Mariah news recently, I jumped (positively) when I discovered the track because the music belongs to the commercial for Mariah's fragrance "M". I remember that when I first heard the music in the commercial, I secretly hoped that a longer version of it would be a song. The thing is now done and you will appreciate it. B. Cox is responsible for the production of this song ("Be Without You" by Mary J) which is definitely a future hit. The style perfectly fits Mimi and I hope that they will work together again in the future. The result is a potential smash hit with a nice vocal effort at the end. This future "classic" will be played endlessly in the Midnight Love.

• Migrate
The listening party follows with this track, it sounds hip-hop with a heavy sound. Danja at the production, is responsible along with Timblalnd for the latest hits by Timberlake, Furtado and co., offers to the diva a heavy and smashing track. Notice the T-Pain presence which brings a lot to the track and lends a vocoder to Mariah who uses it wonderfully when she sings "Migrate". It sounds like "Snap" in 'Buy You A Drank' but enhanced. Be ready to bounce on this title which is truly made for the clubs and which is another potential single.

• Side Effects
This is the second and last track still in the mixing process (Americans say work in progress). The new style is Dirty South I think (Ludacris, T.I, Young Jeezy). Young Jeezy is featured on this track and he gives the tone for the song from the very beginning with a "Yeahhhh" that gets us in the mood. If I remember well, I found the chorus very catchy "To walk away and don't regret it, but I still live with side effects". The lyrics are well written and serious. Mariah explains her course and the traps she got through all through the song. The song didn't immediately grow on me, but it probably needs a few more listenings.

• Love Story
Jermaine Dupri produced this track for the fans' pleasure who will certainly appreciate the track which sounds like a song from her previous album. The slow music makes me think of 'Until The End of Time' (Timberlake), probably due to the fact that a piano is very present.

• Cruise Control
JD once again is the producer on this summer track in which Mariah collaborates with Damian Marley and tries some Jamaican lyrics: "pon de gals on the block". I didn't find it odd and thought it worked well. The reggae style slowly carries the song which is original and surprising. Mariah spells "C.R.U.I.S.E Control" in the chorus.

• Thanks For Nothing
Mimi's voice is the spotlight of this other JD produced song. It's Mariah who says the famous "So So Def" here instead of her favorite producer. The keyboard use is very much like in "Always Be My baby". She sings "Oh Oh Oh Oh" which is very catchy, another song like the ones in the previous album.

• OOC
This track arrived at a perfect time (after 3 JD produced songs which were good but a bit too repetitive). Swizz Beats is the producer (Tambourine by Eve, Get me bodied, Ring The Alarm by Beyonce, and Touch It by Busta Rhymes) but surprisingly, the music is not agressive. I was particularly taken by this track which sounds fresh, original and retro at the same time. Nostalgia backs the song and hearing Mariah on this one is delightful, particularly when she pronounces the famous "OOC" which means Out Of Control. It's the first time I heard the diva sing a French sentence - "Je ne sais pas mais c'est la vie", preceded by another sentence in Spanish if I remember well. I adored it!

• Bye Bye
Stargate again is the producer with a slow jam track, slower than "That Chick" but it doesn't sound like Irrepleacable by Beyonce for example. It's more of a pure Mimi Style a-la "We Belong Together". The track is very sad, its theme is the loss of those we love. It sounds like a hit with a superb vocal finale.

• Last Kiss
JD is the producer of the final track of the listening party. A classic mid-tempo.

To sum it up, I think Mariah Carey successfully experimented with new sounds and new producers. That Chick, Migrate, Lovin You Long Time, For The Record and OOC are my favorite tracks. As for the JD and Mariah collaboration fanatics, you will be happy to hear Thanks For Nothing, Last Kiss and Love Story all produced by the two. I was disappointed by the fact that there's no Soul/Gospel song like only Mariah can deliver, but it's not the final cut of the album and maybe there will be changes before it is released.

Songwriter "The Ink" Co-Writes 4 Songs on E=MC²
Cri$tyle aka "the ink" pens four tracks on Carey's E=MC²

So So Def/EMI signed songwriter Cri$tyle aka "the ink" is the latest to join a short list of creative geniuses guaranteed to deliver a Billboard single. Cri$tyle penned Mariah Carey's 2008 comeback single 'Touch My Body' alongside super-producer C.Tricky Stewart. The mid-tempo track exudes sex appeal and captures Mariah's signature sound, while adding just the right amount of hip hop flavor.

"Cri$tyle is in one word... phenomenal," Carey says of her newfound muse. "I'm so glad Jermaine hooked us up. I know all the songs we've written together are going to be stonewinners--smash hit grooves."

In addition to the single, 'Touch My Body', Cri$tyle penned, 'Cruise Control' produced by Jermaine Dupri and 'Love You Long Time' produced by DJ Toomp and 'HEAT' produced by Will.I.Am on Carey's spring 2008 release E=MC².

Since signing with Jermaine Dupri's Dieniahmar publishing last year, the twenty-four year old has interpreted the tracks of producers such as Dre, Rodney Jerkins and Jermaine Dupri into unforgettable melodies for A-list divas such as Janet, Mariah, Jennifer Lopez and Natasha Bedingfield. Currently Cri$tle is in the studio with R&B darling Brandy and powerhouse diva Beyonce.

"It's her time. 2008 belongs to Cri$tyle," says mentor/friend Jermaine Dupri. The singer turned songwriter says the last year has been the equivalent of living a dream. "It's a blessing, but music has been my drug of choice for as long as I can remember," Cri$tyle admits.

'Touch my Body' made its radio debut Tuesday, February 12th to rave reviews. Cri$tyle also has the current singles on teen sensation Tiffany Evans and international superstar Natasha Bedingfield.

Mariah's Producers Talk About New Album
SOHH:
R&B diva Mariah Carey returns to the spotlight this Spring with her newest release E=MC². SOHH caught up with the Grammy award-winning producers Bryan-Michael Cox and DJ Toomp - who collaborated with M.C. on the project - to get the details on the album that everyone is buzzing about.

E=MC² follows Mariah's hugely successful 2005 Grammy award-winning album, The Emancipation of Mimi, which sold over10 million copies worldwide. While that success will be difficult to match, the album is already generating praise from mega-hitmaker Jermaine Dupri, who claims the quality of E=MC² surpasses Carey's last album, and the other producers she's worked with on the album.

"I'm telling you she's in a great space, man. It feels like it's going to be better than Emancipation," Bryan-Michael Cox told SOHH exclusively. "She has a lot of the same producers. Jermaine gave her some really incredible records. I came in and gave her some real dope records. She got some really really dope stuff."

DJ Toomp, who just took home a Grammy for his work on Kanye West's Graduation, agrees. "It's incredible," he says. "I've only heard snippets of a few songs but Jermaine Dupri, pulled me to the side and was like, 'Yo man, we bout to be here [at the Grammys] next year too.' He's like, 'You're on a classic album and you got a classic song.' So it feels good."

Along with JD, Cox and Toomp, will.i.am, Stargate, Nate "Danjahandz" Hills, James Poyser, C. "Tricky" Stewart and The-Dream also collaborated with MC on the project.

Carey has already announced plans for a Brett Ratner-directed video for her first single, "Touch My Body," which was written and produced by Carey alongside Tricky Stewart and The-Dream.

"Touch My Body" hit the radio earlier this week.

The project will be the 11th studio album for Carey, who has finally set a release date of April 15th for the set. E=MC² was executive produced by Mariah Carey and Island Def Jam Chairman, Antonio "LA" Reid.

MTV:
Carey also mentioned in October that she "just had a really, really hot session with somebody in Miami." She didn't name names, but producers Cool & Dre told MTV News about various sessions they had with the singer.

"With Mariah, one of her favorite records is 'New York' [by Ja Rule], and she asked us to do a record like that," Dre said. "It was like, we got an opportunity to work with Mariah, and she wants us to do something we already did. But we said, 'You know what? You don't get too many opportunities to work with a Mariah Carey.' And to know you have her ear, you got to impress. So me and Cool decided not to do 'New York.' We wanted to show her we could do big pop records too. We turned it in, and her A&R came back and asked us to go gutter instead. So we made the hardest beat ever in history. We had a bunch of rappers trying to steal the beat, and they couldn't believe we made the beat for her. Jadakiss, Busta Rhymes, all saying they couldn't believe we were giving it to her. And then, she ended up taking the first record anyway."

DJ Toomp Talks About "Lovin' You Long Time"

DJ Toomp interviewed for the radio station V-103 in Atlanta, GA and talked about the song he produced for Mariah's new album:

Frank Ski, V103: A little birdie told me, you may be working on Mariah Carey's new album.
DJ Toomp: Oh yes.

FS: 'Cause I know you and L.A. are tight, and L.A. Reid signed you, so this is Mariah Carey - that's his project, that's his baby.

DJ Toomp: It's an extreme dynamite of a song. It's called "Lovin' You Long Time". Right now we're definitely pushing for it to be the first single, a few people in the office are pushing for it also, so I'm just crossing my fingers that... I'm definitely on the album - first that was the hope. I was hoping I could make the album, now I'm hoping that it's released as first or second single. So I figure that's kind of powerful as far as you know, how I've been working on my career, just being known for Hip-Hop, and finally getting my first R&B placement on Mariah Carey, come on! You know what I mean?

New Album Listening Party In Japan
A listening party for Mariah's (and Janet's) new album was held at Cafe Studio Harajuku in Japan. Five tracks from the album whose title was said to still be undecided, were played.

Ameblo music critic Junichi Uchimoto described the following songs:

--"Touch My Body" is similar to "We Belong Together", only a little faster and more hip hop oriented.
--"That Chick" reminded him of Ne-Yo's "Because Of You".
--"OOC" is a unique pop song.

Uchimoto also said that fans of "The Emancipation Of Mimi" would love the new album.

It was revealed that the scheduled timeline to release the album in Japan is in April. The date however is still not set and is subject to change.

The World According to LA
Island Def Jam boss Antonio 'LA' Reid has overseen some of the biggest musical careers of the past two decades. This year he will attempt to strike second time lucky with Mariah Carey and deliver the success that has recently eluded Janet Jackson.

On January 15 Terra Firma head Guy Hands, the man charged with turning the fortunes of EMI around, gathered his staff at the Odeon Cinema in West London and delivered his new and at times revolutionary vision for the company.

The following day Island Def Jam chairman Antonio 'LA' Reid stood in front of representatives from Universal's European territories and a selection of British media at the Mayfair Theatre to reveal two of the label's biggest Q2 priorities; Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson.

Dressed casually in jeans, a white shirt and blazer, the Grammy-winning record executive, who has guided the careers of artists such as TLC, Usher, Avril Lavigne and Dido to multi-platinum success, was in an upbeat mood, getting lost in the music and talking enthusiastically about the creative process behind the new albums.

"We should clap," he told the audience. "We should clap because we just played music, and yesterday there was a very big company meeting in a theatre over the other side of town where they didn't play music. A music company - or it used to be." The timing, intentional or not, was perhaps all the more prudent given the history of the two artists Reid was presenting. Mariah Carey will this year deliver her second album for Island Def Jam, the label she signed to in 2002 following a disappointing period with Virgin Records. Carey signed with Virgin in April 2001 for close to $82m (£41.9m) but, following a disappointing performance of the Glitter movie and soundtrack, EMI cut its losses and paid Carey $28m (£14.3m) to sever ties. The Emancipation Of Mimi, her subsequent debut for Island Def Jam, has since sold more than 10m copies globally.

Jackson signed to Island Def Jam last year in the wake of two consecutive commercial disappointments: 2004's Damita Jo and 2006's 20 YO. Reid is adamant, however, that Virgin's failure will be his own success.

Music Week caught up with the veteran music executive at The Berkeley Hotel in London.

In the case of both Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey, you signed artists at a low point in their careers. What is it that gives you confidence to get involved with artists that other labels may be hesitant about?
I firmly believe in truly talented people, particularly talented superstars.

I believe if you have the talent, it's just a question of someone refining it and helping to make the right creative decisions. Talent always wins in the end; you're never over. As a matter of fact, I find that the marketplace generally is much healthier for icons than it might be for new artists, and I think that has been proven for many artists. When you look at the Eagles' success or the recent Led Zeppelin success, it tells me that people who grew up on these artists always love them, they just want them to make the right records. So I never really give up on them."

Is there a process that you go through when it comes to identifying the strengths of these artists and deciding the right album to make?
I just listen to songs. Mariah Carey writes every song she sings; she may collaborate with various people but she is a songwriter, so with Mariah she'll write, she'll play it for me and I'll tell her what I think, so there's no real process there. Alternatively, if I think there's a good collaboration I'll suggest somebody and she'll say, 'OK I like this person, I'll try that', you know, and then we just evaluate the work when it's done.

She's a true songwriter. With Janet, we spend more time with the producers and writers trying to find ideas that may appeal to her and that she can get into and mould into her own. I just try to get inside their heads and find out what it is they're looking for. I provide a service. I do whatever they want me to do; whatever they need, I'll do it to help them. It's really their vision, not mine.

Did you find the creative process fairly smooth this time around?
Yeah. It always is though. Honestly, I don't have issues with artists at all because, although I'm not a performer, they think of me as one of them. So no, we don't hit creative snags, we just try things and some things work and some things don't and that's fine.

Do you consider yourself a music guy first and foremost?
Depends on what we're talking about. I can talk about mergers and acquisitions, I can talk about politics or global economies; or we can talk about songs and producers. I'm not different from you in that I'm versed in the things I'm good at and I'm horrible at the things I'm not.

Do you think the changes going on at EMI at the moment represent a more general shift in the business, where maybe there are less true music professionals in the business?
There was a time when the suits attempted to take over our business; it didn't work. And there may be a suit or two hanging out there now attempting to take over the business. It won't work. It will come right back to the people who live and die for the art form. It's like putting a suit in charge of art galleries. OK, good luck, but how about having people that love art? You look around the business now, it is run by music people. Doug Morris: songwriter. Jimmy Iovine: record producer. LA Reid: record producer. Rick Rubin: record producer. More and more of them, and if they're not songwriters or producers, they're avid music professionals. Craig Kallman: a true music professional. Barry Weis: a true music professional. Clive Davis: the legendary record man. Lyor Cohen: just a legendary record man. The record companies are run by record people and probably the only exception to that is EMI; that's the only company that I can see that doesn't have a hands-on music guy, but then again they have Roger Aimes and Jason Flom and they're record guys; these are hitmakers and I respect all of them and I admire all of them. We were spending some time with Lucian [Grainge] today and I was like; 'Wow! I just love being in the presence of a great record man.' I love it.

What do you think it is that makes the music business such a unique proposition?
The music business is an interesting one because most successful people, at some point, want to be in music and when it doesn't work they say, 'what a horrible business', but everyone wants to take a stab at it. Athletes want to take a stab at it; actors want to take a stab at it, financial guys, everyone wants to take a stab at getting in the record business. It's so sexy and so intriguing and there's a mystique about it and everyone wants to see what's behind the curtain, but this business is not for everyone.

At the music presentation yesterday, everyone in attendance received a lyric sheet which they were asked to hand back at the end of the presentation. You made the point that the lyric sheets only became valuable when people were told they could not keep them. How do you apply that thinking to music and to the business?
What you're saying is, too much access to music makes music less valuable, which means that free is horrible, because free means you absolutely don't want it unless someone conned you into it. If someone walks up to you on the street and gives you a free CD, more than likely you're going to throw it away. No one wants free. Free is contributing to the demise of a beautiful business, of a beautiful culture; it's not free. I'm just looking around this room, there is nothing in this room that is free. Water was once free, but now you and I would not drink free water. We only want water that's bottled and expensive. So music is very special and the handlers of music have to understand how special it is and package it properly and price it properly and sell it. No one wants free. We'd rather have air conditioning than fresh air, because you pay for air conditioning.

Today's music fan has access to more information than ever before, via the likes of blogs and music sites. As a label, how do you control this? And indeed, do you feel you need to control it?
I think that when it comes to getting the word out on something and creating a buzz, we have many, many vehicles and we try to make the best possible use of the availability of all of these outlets, but we run the risk of having music judged by people who may not be qualified to write about it. They may be qualified to have an opinion - everyone is entitled to have an opinion - but not everyone is qualified to write about it. But they're out there, so what are you going to do? People like that are a fact of life. It's better than they're talking about our stuff than something else; that's the way I look at it. Keeping what we do at the forefront of people's minds is very important.

Do you feel like blogs in particular provide a powerful platform to break an act?
I don't think they have any commercial value in terms of whether something sells or doesn't sell; it's just people talking about it.

How do you feel about the direction Guy Hands is steering EMI?
I just hope it works, for the sake of all of music, because a healthy, competitive music company is very important to all of our existences. I wish him the absolute best in doing it and I really hope it works and I hope he can restore the viability of that great music company. It's important. If he were to ask my advice, I'd give it to him. I hope he does a great job with it. We need great companies, that's all I know.

How do major record labels remain relevant in the new business environment? What do you believe has to happen to enable the record company model to move forward?
Record labels have to be entertainment companies and they have to provide opportunities for artists beyond selling music. It has to have a 'dream' component, meaning whatever the artist envisions themselves doing, they have to be able to come and talk to me and say, 'Here is my vision for my career', not 'here is my vision for my record', and then we have to work as hard as they do to try and bring opportunities so they can be and do all that they want to do. That may be a very soft way of saying it but we have to be entertainment companies. Some people call it 360-degree models and I hate it now because it just sounds like a catchphrase.

How has the scope of contacts in your address book changed today, compared with, say, 10 years ago?
I know more bankers! I know more movie people, I know more TV people. But that's probably it. For me it's more film and TV interaction than I've had in the past 10 years.

What are the big drivers for breaking new music in the US right now?
In the US at the end of last year, a lot of the Top 10 was platform-driven. Whether it was a marketing-driven thing like Hannah Montana or the American Idol franchise or the Eagles or who did the Wal-Mart specific campaign. It's always great to have a hit song and a great piece of music; that's where it always has to start, but having a big driver behind you that helps push you into the consciousness really works.

Do you feel like the impact you can have via radio is reduced at all now?
It's a little tougher in terms of getting everything at the same time, but when you have a hit song and you get it away at radio, alongside everything else it's still your biggest driver. There are a lot of other things now that get into that mix, but it's still pretty powerful.

Island Def Jam will release Duffy's debut in the US later this year. How is the record shaping up over there?
We're getting a great reaction from the people that have heard it. Lots of buzz. It feels like it's going to go. She is going to be one of the breakthroughs of 2008. She's got it. She just did a small promo tour of the United States and everybody's been calling about it. It's setting up nicely.

Can you tell us about some of the other artists you're working on at the moment?
We're working on new music from The Killers, Ne-Yo, Lionel Richie; and Rihanna is working on new stuff. We have an exciting artist called The Dream and there will be new albums from The Roots and Fall Out Boy this year too. On the hip-hop side of things, there will be new music from Ludacris, Young Jeezy, Fabolous. We have a new artist called Rocco who's breaking right now and we have The Bravery that we will continue to work.

What effect has the financial pressure across the business as a whole been having on your A&R decisions? How has it affected the amount of artists you can work with or how you work with those artists?
Well, it's not so much how many, but we have to operate as if we're spending money from our own bank accounts instead of operating like there is some endless well. We have to be very responsible, so we really think it through before we make financial decisions, but that's just good business, that's not necessarily because of a bad climate. It's good business to know that every dime we spend, we're looking for a return.

Do you feel like music is in a good place at the moment?
I do. I think music is in the best place it's been in years.

Video: Mariah And JD In The Studio
[ Download this video ]
Mariah's friend and co-producer Jermaine Dupri has uploaded a video that was taken in Mariah's recording studio at her Tribeca house. Also seen in the video are Stephen Hill, Senior VP of Music Programming and Talent at BET and Rachel McIntosh, Mariah's choreographer.

Mariah and JD are seen talking about "The YouTube" (a phrase that made it into the lyrics of "Touch My Body"), Mariah's pink roadcases, the $10 Mariah bill, her Louis Vuitton jeans and Mariah's love for her fans!

The special bonus comes in at about 2:41 minutes into the video, where a small bit from a never-before-heard Mariah song is played in the background. Based on the lyrics heard in the clip, fans are speculating it could be the song "Thanks For Nothing", which is reported as one of the tracks on Mariah's upcoming album.

Mimi Vs. Janet - The Showdown
A chart battle is looming for Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson. Jackson will release her new album Discipline, on Feb. 26, Carey's long player, tentatively titled I'm That Chick is due on April 1. And judging by new tracks previewed at a Melbourne listening session last week, Mimi will blitz.

Carey beats, lyrics, and vocal delivery are superior. Mimi's new songs are about love, lust, being played and her breakdown - or her "breakthrough" as Carey describes it.

"Touch My Body," shortlisted as the first single, hints at a new celebrity must have - a sex tape. "If there's a camera up in here then I'd best not catch this flick on YouTube" Carey warns. "If you run your mouth and brag about this secret rendezvous I will hunt you down."

Collaborating producers include Jermaine Dupri, Polow Da Don, Stargate, Danja, Tricky Sterwart and The Dream.

By comparison, the new Janet is geared to the clubs. With Timbaland's successful electro experiments, U.S. urban is moving towards chunkier beats and house.

Yet Jackson's new tunes fail to repeat past glories. Her dance tracks are overproduced, the ballads are banal. "My body's here, it's soaking wet, I wanna give you something you won't forget", Janet sings on "Tonight." "Ain't you curious, don't you wanna know, how deep my love can go? Don't resist the fight, do it all night."

That Chick Album Previews in Australia & Taiwan
Australia
Two of the world's biggest music divas will be heading to Australia this year on the back of their latest album releases.

Mariah Carey, who has racked up 17 number-one hits in the US alone and has sold more than 150 million CDs and DVDs worldwide, is preparing to release her album That Chick in April.

Meanwhile, the release of the Janet Jackson album Discipline is imminent.

"We definitely want to get them out here at some point during the year," says a rep from their US record label who flew to Australia to unveil five tracks from each album.

Insider had a private preview of tracks from both albums - two of the year's most anticipated releases.

Jackson's first single from her 10th studio album is "Feedback," a cracking pop track. Another, "Tonight," is up-tempo dance, so think Rihanna's "Don't Stop The Music."

Others include the pumping "Rock With You" and the curiously titled "The Greatest Ex."

Carey's sound is more polished than Jackson's, and there's no doubt her album will get plenty of radio and television airplay.

Timing is everything in this game, so Carey is yet to set an exact date for the release. The expected drop in April will be around the time Madonna's latest album is due.

Although Carey's lyrics leave little to the imagination, there's no denying she has an amazing voice.

Stand-out tunes include "Love You Long Time," "Touch My Body" and "I'm That Chick That You Want."

Taiwan
Matt Voss, Def Jam's SVP of Marketing, gave a preview of the new Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey albums in a special listening party held in Taiwan yesterday.

Voss played some new songs from the two albums which were not played in the London listening party a few days ago.

According to the article, both albums are so well-protected. People allowed to enter the party were informed not to bring any cellphones, or any recording devices. The reason they played the different songs in different listening parties is because if any of the tracks are leaked they will know where it is from.

He also mentioned the possibility of a duet between Janet & Mariah: "They are both excited, and looking forward to it. They will definitely do it one day!"

Reid Plays "That Chick" at Janet's Album Preview
Yesterday, Def Jam honcho L.A. Reid invited a group of journalists into his office to play tracks from Janet Jackson's upcoming album Discipline (due out Feb. 26).

After L.A. played the nine tracks, he asked us if we wanted to hear anything again, and ended up playing "Luv" and "Tonight" another time before saying goodbye. As a bonus treat, he played the title cut from Mariah Carey's "That Chick" as we were leaving. Mariah's tune is a rollerskating jam not unlike Ne-Yo's "Because of You." It just never stops bouncing. Hearing it on the way out underscored the feeling I got from hearing Janet's disc: now's a really great time to be a diva.

Two More Tracks from "That Chick"
Mariah Carey has set an April 1 release date for the follow-up to her mega-selling album "The Emancipation of Mimi," which was the biggest selling album of 2005. Dubbed "That Chick," the set features production from Jermaine Dupri, will.i.am and Rodney Jerkins, plus collaborations with the likes of T-Pain and Damian Marley.

The album veers between breezy pop tunes like "Lovin' You Long Time" and the title track, ballads like "Love Story" and urban club bangers like the standout "Migrate."

The latter features T-Pain in a guest slot, providing the counterpoint to Carey's anthemic "single girls on the town" lyrics with the killer line: "Don't wait for me to buy drinks, or you're going to dehydrate."

Other highlights include the frisky R&B of "Touch My Body," with Carey cooing, "If there's a camera up in here then I best not catch this flick on YouTube," and the catchy "OOC" -- short for "out of control." There's also a new sound for Carey on "Cruise Control," which features Marley and sees the artist try her hand at Jamaican patois.

"It's kind of strange but I heard a lot of her records and it sound like the album is better than the last album," Dupri recently told Billboard.

Here is the track list for "That Chick":

"Lovin' You Long Time"
"Touch My Body"
"That Chick"
"Thanx for Nothin'"
"For the Record"
"Migrate"
"Cruise Control"
"Love Story"
"OOC"
"Bye Bye"

Note: There are now 12 known tracks from the album - the list above plus the previously reported "For Real, For Real" and "Heat."

Daily Star UK Reviews "That Chick"
I've had a sneak peek at two of this year's biggest albums, Janet Jackson's Discipline and That Chick by Mariah Carey.

I can reveal that Janet, 41, kicks out the slow jams in favour of club bangers on her strongest and most varied collection in donkey's years.

Destiny's Child producer Rodney Jerkins, 30, is the man behind the standout cuts. Sweet, synth heavy lead-off track Love Love Love is the musical equivalent of Fruit Pastels while buzzy hook fest Feedback is the girl's best single in a decade.

Elsewhere the deliciously Stevie Wonder-ish This Can't Be Good highlights Janet's whisper-quiet vocal texture, while Tonight sounds like a future No 1.

Only the super sexy (or plain filthy) title track, a ballad penned by Ne-Yo, 26, misses the mark.

As for Mariah it's more of the same from the world's biggest-selling recording artist.

If anything there's less schmaltz this time as the Long Island babe concentrates on blowing bass bins.

The brassy Lovin' You Long Time's riff gets more uplifting by the second while Mariah, 37, does a mean R Kelly impersonation on Touch My Body.

Pick of the bunch is the Janet-like title track That Chick, with its "taste me, gotta flavour like ice cream" hook.

Janet's Discipline drops February 25, Mariah's That Chick follows on April 1.

Mariah And Janet: The Return
Def Jam/ Island CEO Antonio 'LA' Reid jetted into London yesterday afternoon to present new releases from Ms Janet Jackson and Ms Mariah Carey.

Two of the world's most iconic have been busy squirreling in the studio and return with Jackson's Discipline and Carey's That Chick.

Reid identified both artists as having a whole lot of 'swagger' - before dropping a little dig to EMI. "That's a music company. Well, it used to be," he grinned before showcasing a bit more bitchiness. Or truth, depending on your POV! "We realised that it would take some work with Janet after her last two EMI album weren't successful. Just like the last Mariah EMI album..."

Once that was done, it was on with the music. Reserving full opinion until we've had the chance to sit down properly with both records, we can however say that we think MC won out.

Janet seemed fairly ok - a couple of good club tracks - but otherwise somewhat generic uptempo and slow R&B numbers that sounded like they could have been off-cuts from All For You or Janet. And there was no need for Discipline. To put it bluntly, JJ apologises to her 'daddy' for 'touching herself' even though he 'commanded' her not to. 'But I can smell you on my sheets/ Daddy I disobeyed you, now come punish me...I've been bad, make me cry...' and so on and so on. Yuck.

Luckily, Mariah kept it a whole lot cleaner (but not squeaky, that would be dry!)

The first few tracks were big, but MC really hit hard with absolute banger Migrate featuring T-Pain. Oh my daze!!! "We sippin' Grigio slow," murmurs Mariah over some serious dirty south bounce. Not too sure about her dropping a bit of patois on the Damian Marley assisted Cruise Control ('Me say no man... tink I'm jokin'), but we'll forgive her such strangeness considering the tune packs heat.

Vocally and sonically, this is yet another outstanding release from the world's biggest selling superstar.

Watch out for a full review once the records are in for review...

Janet is out February 25 and Mariah drops April 1st.

New Mariah Album "That Chick" Out in April
In London, England, Def Jam boss Antonio "L.A." Reid was showing off the two female jewels in their crown today with playbacks of the new Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey albums.

Label boss Reid seemed very excited about both of them, although that is his job, and mentioned plans for six singles from Mariah's That Chick, which hits the stores in April.

Janet Jackson - Discipline
First up, though, was Janet's Discipline. If you've heard the single, Feedback, you'll have a pretty good idea of what to expect from the album. It's crisp, danceable R&B lavished with Janet's trademark velvet harmonies.

The stand-out track was probably Tonight, a bubbling club track which can only be Jackson's response to Rihanna's Don't Stop The Music. Reid mentioned that some of the tracks weren't finished - and this one sounded like it was missing a sample somewhere in the mix. Once that's added, this could be Janet's biggest dance success since Together Again.

Love, Love, Love and This Can't Be Good saw the lyrical return of the sweet singer who first raised her head on Let's Wait Awhile - all coy and bashful while falling head over heels in love.

But the sleazy siren of 20 YO is also present. Title track Discipline is a gruesome plea for fetishistic S&M sex - with Janet referring to her lover as "Daddy" while asking to be tied up and disciplined. Given that her father is a well-documented control freak who used to beat his kids, this is more than a little uncomfortable.

Speaking of family connections, there's long been a rumour that Janet and Michael will team up again (as they did on 1996's Scream) this year. Well, nothing I heard today confirms that rumour - but there is a track called Rock With You that appears to sample the single of the same name from Off The Wall. Could the finished version feature guest vocals by the former King of Pop? I genuinely hope not.

The remaining two tracks, Rollercoaster and Greatest Ex Ever, didn't really set my world alight - but you never know what'll happen on repeated listens.

The main thing seems to be that Janet is back on form, vocally and lyrically. The record is very safe and commercial, although I'm not sure where they'll go for the third single (Tonight surely has to be the second). But as a first step towards career rehabilitation Def Jam has made a strong play for their newest diva.

Mariah Carey - That Chick
Their old diva (in terms of contract, not age, of course) is Mariah, who is riding high after the 7xPlatinum-selling Emancipation Of Mimi.

We got to hear 10 tracks from the follow-up, That Chick, which I have to say sounded more polished and commercial than Janet's effort.

One track in particular is set to make big bucks, and that's Bye Bye - a torch song for people "who lost they grandmothers". I guarantee that Simon Cowell will be sick of hearing badly-realised auditions of it by the end of the year.

Lyrics were never Carey's strong point, mind you, so her paean to loss is summed up with not-very-insightful Hallmark platitudes like "I'd give the world to see your face" and "Life goes on". Profound, eh?

Still, at least it's better than when she desperately attempts to prove how bang up to date she is. In Touch My Body, she purrs to her lover: "If there's a camera up in here then I best not catch this flick on youtube (youtube)". Not exactly the sexiest boudoir come-on you've ever heard, is it?

But there are plenty of good tunes to counter the awesomely bad lyrics. Migrate, about a night out with Mariah while she wears jeans ("yeah, they fit", she informs us) is sure to be a candidate for heavy MTV rotation, although I hope to God they excise T-Pain's hopelessly strained vocals. Lovin' You Long Time, meanwhile, is a strutting uptempo number very much in the style of It's Like That.

So, what have we learnt from this listening "event"? Well, I wasn't overwhelmed by the music - despite (or perhaps because of) the fact it was played so ear-splittingly loud that it felt like I was being punched repeatedly in the ears by a cyberman. Both artists have turned in a tuneful, competent set of R&B songs, but I'm not sure that any of them have the charisma or vitality to compete with the Rihannas and Beyonces of this world.

Both albums: 6/10 (scores may go up or down after further listens at levels tolerable to the human ear).

Mariah's New Album: Billboard's 2008 Best Bet
What's the biz to do when the top-selling album of 2007 was a Christmas project, and the second-best was a soundtrack to a teen-themed Disney movie? Superstars underperformed, and not enough up-and-comers took their commercial fortunes to the proverbial next level.

Still, there's a wealth of highly anticipated albums heading into stores in 2008 and Billboard has the lowdown of which ones you should check out, from the Mars Volta to Mariah Carey to Nas.

Mariah Carey
TBA (Island, Spring/Second Quarter)

After one of the biggest comebacks in recent R&B history with 2005's multiplatinum "The Emancipation of Mimi," the stakes are quite high for Carey's next album. Jermaine Dupri, who was behind the "Mimi" success, is returning to helm the new album. "Ms. Mariah is on fire," Island Def Jam chairman Antonio "L.A." Reid says. "I don't want to hype the record, but she writes all her own songs. Of her producers, the most interesting to me is DJ Toomp, but she's also working with Stargate, Scott Storch, Danja and will.i.am."

Mariah Carey Looks Forward to 2008, Album Still Untitled
Mariah Carey is starting off the new year with high hopes.

"The album is probably my favorite album that I've ever done," Mariah told "Extra" at a charity event on the slopes of Aspen. "I don't want to brag, I am am just humbly grateful that I was blessed to be able to make this record, because I love it."

The Grammy-winning pop diva is talking about her upcoming effort, her follow-up to the smash hit "The Emancipation of Mimi." It's still unnamed, but Mariah said to expect a surprise.

"Honestly I have not named my new album yet," she confessed. "After 'The Emancipation of Mimi,' which is something that came so naturally to me, the title, I really want to think about it because it might be something the complete opposite of that."

But when is she going to find time for a title? The singer has two movies on the horizon, including Adam Sandler's "You Don't Mess With the Zohan."

She added, "I know I'm working a lot, but I want to incorporate fun into that. I just want '08 to be a really fun year."

'Migrate To The Club'
Hollyscoop reports the following from Mariah's New Year's Eve Party at TAO, Las Vegas:

Mariah closed the night by playing her new track "Migrate" which features T-Pain.

MariahDailyJournal is able to confirm that Migrate (in addition to Heat) is indeed a new song title from Mariah's upcoming album. It is however, at this point, unknown whether or not it will be the first single.

"It's Like That," the first single from The Emancipation of Mimi was first played by Mariah at the New Year's Eve 2005 Party she hosted at the PURE night club in Las Vegas on December 31, 2004.

DJ Toomp, The Spin Doctor
On an afternoon in November, two months after Kanye West's Graduation has peaked at the top of the Billboard album charts, DJ Toomp is back in his studio, swiveling in that squeaky chair. A year into his production deal with Def Jam, he's flourished, and not just professionally. He mentions with pride that his first child, a daughter named Caden Alon, is 2 months old.

West and Toomp's "Good Life" single sits at No. 7 on the Billboard singles chart. Jay-Z's American Gangster, released Nov. 6, opened at No. 1 on the album charts, and Toomp's "Say Hello" is one of its highlights. In the coming months, he's slated to go into the studio with Nas and Mariah Carey.

"I really killed that song deal," he boasts.

Music Retailers Complain About Lack of New Albums
Be careful what you ask for -- you just might get it.

For years, music retailers have complained that the labels wait until the fourth quarter to release albums from their biggest stars, creating a drought during the other nine months.

This year, the labels somehow forgot to do even that. And they also forgot to have a hot release ready for the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, a day that usually earns the Super Tuesday distinction, since it's so heavy with big releases. Last week, the highest new entry on the Billboard 200 came in at a lowly No. 50.

Just three years ago, the fourth quarter was packed with new releases from the likes of Eminem, U2, Gwen Stefani, Shania Twain, Rod Stewart, R. Kelly, Jay-Z/Linkin Park and Kelly Clarkson.

Merchants are crying the blues, but at least they'll have some big releases for the first quarter for a change: So far, Mariah Carey, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Lenny Kravitz and Sheryl Crow are due out in the new year.

One independent retailer suggested, however, that without big releases in the fourth quarter, his store might not be around in the first quarter.

DJ Toomp Talks Mariah Carey

Hip-Hop super producer DJ Toomp has made a name for himself creating hard-hitting beats for the likes of T.I., Jay-Z and Kanye West. Now he's delving into some smoother sounds.

SOHH caught up with the Atlanta-based hit-maker at the Billboard R&B/Hip Hop Music Conference in Atlanta yesterday and got the exclusive insight into his work with R&B diva Mariah Carey.

"I really haven't heard none of the other songs on [Mariah's] album but the one I brought is pretty hot," Toomp told SOHH. "It's gonna be a club banger. It's a little different working with Mariah. She usually writes her own stuff and when she goes into the booth there's usually nobody else there but her engineer. But what's crazy is the results are great. She's gone this far working like that so why try to change that?"

Mariah Carey's upcoming untitled album is set for release in the first quarter of 2008.

British Songwriter Ghost Works on Mariah's Album?
Could she write a single for the latest American Idol winner? No problem. How about a couple of songs for Whitney Houston's comeback album, collaborating with Mariah Carey, and acting as a sort of taste consultant for Liam Howlett on The Prodigy's upcoming release? It's a deal. [British singer-songwriter Amanda] Ghost has been busy on all of the above in the past 18 months, and has even found time to help her best friend, Boy George, revive his career after an eight-year hiatus and numerous scandals, not to mention marrying a television producer and giving birth to their daughter.

Another New Mariah Song: "4Real4Real"
Two new song titles from Mariah's forthcoming album have recently been registered with the music copyright holding agency, Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI): "For The Record" [previously reported] and "4Real4Real" (or "Four Real Four Real"). Both tracks were written by Mariah, Bryan Michael Cox, and Taurian "Adonis" Shropshire. Although they are the first two titles from Mariah's new album to be registered, the songs may not make the final cut of the album. Mariah's new album is currently scheduled to be released early next year.

Bryan Michael Cox and Taurian "Adonis" Shropshire are writing/producing partners. They have worked together on songs for Chris Brown, Omarion and Danity Kane, and separately for Mary J. Blige (Cox) and Alicia Keys (Shropshire). Both of them have also separately worked with Mariah before: Bryan Michael Cox co-wrote a few songs with Mariah including her #1 hit "We Belong Together" and Taurian "Adonis" Shropshire has worked with Mariah on "So Lonely" feat. Twista.

Fans Get a Sneak Preview of New Songs
Fans who waited for Mariah outside the Avery Fisher Hall, where she performed at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards, got to preview two of her new songs!

Tingleigh69 reports, "I saw Mariah outside the Glamour Awards! She signed my Music Box CD and was like, 'I hope you have emancipated' and I said, 'of course.' But to make a long story short she said she had to go because she had to play a song for someone. When she got in the car they blasted a song that we never heard before and I think it was her new song and Rachel (Mariah's dancer-friend) said, 'You guys hear that?' It sounded amazing! I couldn't make out lyrics or anything but it was upbeat and very good. They played two different ones. They are definitely gonna be #1s. But it was only a couple of seconds. That has to mean the song is gonna be on the radio any day or she wouldn't have played it infront of us."

fabulous mcfan adds, "It was VERY brief but it was an urban, mid-tempo from what I heard. Higher vocals a la So Lonely. I couldn't hear lyrics except her repeating 'So, so, so -something-' (and no, it wasn't So Lonely). It was very brief and people were screaming. Vocals weren't breathy, just 'higher' in my opinion. The vocals were similar to The Emancipation of Mimi from what I heard. It was a very urban/hip hop influenced song, no guest rappers that I heard and sounded like it was hot. I'm trying to remember, but like I said, it sounded like a great song, very hot! It will do well on radio. I almost thought it was a Rihanna song before I realized it was coming out of Mariah's car."

Cox Gets Giddy About Mariah's New Album
Super producer Bryan Michael Cox has quite a few projects on his plate including the forthcoming Mariah Carey album.

At Russell Simmons' Financial Empowerment Summit, Bryan gets all amped when talking up Mariah's project.

"It's fantastic! You guys are gonna be very, very pleased with it. Jermaine's on it, I'm on it, Danja, you know. It's phenomenal. She has great, great, great songs."

It must be pretty good. Although he doesn't give us too much information, he seems pretty giddy. I hope what he contributed isn't his typical piano intro ish that sounds very music 101.

Mariah deserves only the best... so I hope he is out of that phase where everything sounds like a "Be Without You" knock off.

Scott Storch Works on New Mariah Album
An article in the Miami New Times reveals that Mariah is currently collaborating with producer Scott Storch on her new album.

Choosing to lay low, forgoing birthday party cameos, local producer Scott Storch has found other ways to have some fun outside the studio. He took a hard-earned break from current work with Mariah Carey, Sean Kingston and new up-and-comer, Carolyn to honor his son, who just turned 16.

Mariah 'In Love' With New Album
After launching her new fragrance, "M," Mariah Carey is putting most of her focus on her new album, due out early next year via Island Def Jam. The as-yet-untitled album is the follow-up to her multiplatinum comeback disc, "The Emancipation of Mimi," which earned her three Grammys.

"It's hard for me to sit here and talk about it without sounding like I'm bragging if I'm in love with it, but I'm in love with this album," she says. "I think that having the success with the last record allowed me to have more freedom ... and just make records that I like. It's kind of a really fun record."

And even though Carey has a new fragrance, she never was the type to spray on a scent before she left the house. In fact, Carey says she never really wore perfumes until she fell in love with "M."

"This is the first fragrance that I wear," she says. "I'm not really a perfume person at all ... Things that are too strong and overwhelming, that's what I was always not a fan of."

But when Elizabeth Arden approached the superstar to create her own perfume, it piqued her interest -- mainly because the cosmetics company didn't want to use just her name, but wanted her input in the creation of the scent, which she describes as light, sensual and memorable.

"They were welcoming in my involvement just in every detail, and that was what was the most exciting thing to me," said Carey.

Carey says the fragrance, which comes in a purple bottle with her signature butterfly icon on top, was based on some of her favorite things. One is a Moroccan incense; another is a flower called the Living Tahitian Tiare. But another scent mixed into the fragrance is unexpected: toasted marshmallows.

That aroma was added because it evoked happy memories of her childhood around the campfire. But she adds: "It's blended in there -- it's not like you're gonna walk around smelling like marshmallows."

Mariah Postpones New Album Release
Mariah Carey has postponed release of her new album, previously scheduled for December 4th, until next February.

At that rate the album, a follow up to "The Emancipation of Mimi," will be bumping right into a new CD from Madonna. At the same time, Janet Jackson - now recording for Island/Def Jam, home of Mariah - may have her new release ready too.

Get set for Diva Logjam. And to make matters even more interesting, Janet's boyfriend, Jermaine Dupri, is the producer working with Randy Jackson and others on Mariah's CD. Dupri brought Jackson over to Island/Def Jam with him from Virgin Records, now lost somewhere in the EMI Music shuffle.

From MTV News:
Sorry, Mariah fans -- looks like her new album isn't coming out this year after all. While her record label confirmed that her yet-untitled follow-up to The Emancipation of Mimi would be dropping December 4, a label representative now says Carey is still recording and the date has not been solidified.

Carey in Key?
Leggy Mariah Carey, 37, is stepping into a creative new direction by releasing her next single as a keyring, I can reveal.

The dangly pink heart will be attached to a USB port that fans can then pop into their computer and play the tune.

Keane did something similar minus the pink hearts and I can see it catching on more widely as downloading eventually displaces the CD.

New Mariah Song: "For The Record"
The first official song title from Mariah's forthcoming album has been released. The track, entitled "For The Record," was written by Mariah, Bryan Michael Cox, and Taurian "Adonis" Shropshire. "For The Record" has been registered with the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), a music copyright holding agency. Although it is the first title from Mariah's upcoming album to be registered, the song is not confirmed as the album's first single and may not even make the final cut of the album. LA Keeping Busy With Mariah
Don't let anyone say that LA Reid is resting on his laurels - instead, the super record executive has lots of work on the go, all at the same time.

"I'm working on a couple of really wonderful things," he reveals.

"There's Mariah Carey and her new album. I'm really excited about it - it's going to be amazing. So I'm working on Mariah, working on Janet Jackson and I'm also working on Jay-Z. Jay-Z has an album called American Gangster, inspired by the movie of the same name, coming out - it's going to be amazing."

And he refuses to reveal anything about Mariah's new music.

"I don't know. I don't even know the title yet. We have a couple that are floating around, and I don't want to spit it out because when I say it, I want it to be the one that sticks. We're still talking about it," he added.

Waiting For Mimi: Mariah Carey Talks New LP
The red carpet fuss at last night's VH1 Save the Music gala centered around two people: John Mayer and Mariah Carey.

L.A. Reid (also) did some secret sharing, hinting that Jay-Z's new album is going to sound "gangsta" (okay, maybe that's not so secret since it's inspired by a movie called American Gangster) and boasting about the guy with the biggest-selling debut of the year. "Kanye West has the hottest album in the world today," he said. "And that's our record." One tidbit Reid couldn't divulge: the track names for Mariah Carey's upcoming album, though he did proclaim it "amazing." We were this close to more information, but Carey's manager, Benny Medina, failed to give the okay.

Woman of the hour Mariah Carey finally arrived in a long purple dress with butterfly rings on each hand just moments before the ceremony began. She shared some insight into her still-untitled record (the name should be arriving any day now), calling it "probably the most fun record I've ever had, and that's tough to say after The Emancipation of Mimi." When Carey was whisked off, we settled in for Conan O'Brien's monologue, which included the killer punchline "Senator Clinton has always encouraged music education. Right now she's trying to encourage Barack Obama to play second fiddle." When the show was over, a mob formed around Carey and Mya, but oddly nobody approached Jon Bon Jovi a few tables over as he got up and made a quiet exit.

Mariah's Upcoming Release Is Oh So Sweet!
From the Sept. 20th issue of Rolling Stone magazine, Chart Toppers:

Mariah Carey
Title TBD Out November 20th
Mariah Carey's last album The Emancipation of Mimi was the breakout hit of 2005 selling more than 5 million copies (in the U.S. alone). For the follow-up, she's hewing close to Mimi's glossy, club-ready sound, with beats from Jermaine Dupri, Stargate, Bryan Michael Cox and Will.i.am. "Seriously, I can't wait to put this record out," says Carey. "I'm in the studio day and night trying to cook it to perfection. If the last album was dinner, treat this as dessert."

In related news, Randy Jackson, calling in to Ryan Seacrest's KIIS FM show this morning from the American Idol Season 7 auditions in Charleston, South Carolina, briefly mentioned Mariah and described her upcoming album as "blazing hot record that's coming out soon."

Mariah Hits The Studio In Her Ballgown
Mariah Carey lived up to her diva tag when she joined Black Eyed Peas star will.i.am in the studio recently - she wore a ball gown.

But the hip-hop super producer insists that Carey wasn't trying the make a statement. She just couldn't be bothered to change. The My Humps hitmaker explains, "Mariah was cool. She came into the studio wearing a big ball gown. "She was like, 'I'm so sorry! I know everybody thinks I'm a diva, but I'm wearing this because I've just come from a party and I didn't want to go home and change.'

"She's a real diva in her own right, but she is real cool." The producer admits he can handle the occasional diva, but insists the big stars he agrees to work with leave their bodyguards at home. He adds, "I remind them not to take themselves so seriously: 'When you come into the studio, leave the bodyguards in the f**king lobby. Why bring them into the studio? Is the mike going to choke you? Relax.'"

JD Talks About Top-Secret New Mariah Track
Jermaine Dupri talked about a new Mariah track during an interview at the grand opening party for his Atlanta club, Studio 72, last night.

"I'm mixing one of Mariah's records today," JD said. "I don't know if it's her first single, but I'm mixing one of the records that I think L.A. [Reid, head of Island Def Jam] is thinking about as one of her first singles."

The song is so top-secret, Dupri said he hasn't even heard it yet.

"I don't even know," he answered when questioned about the record's specifics. "You know what's crazy about the Mariah records? When I work on a Mariah record, she always goes home and records her vocals without me. I ain't heard the song! She calls and tells me, 'I finished, let's go and do it.'

"She's a person that you have to respect her for doing her job," he added. "She respects me for doing my job. When I'm in the studio, she don't question what kick [-drum sound] I use. She don't question if I'm using the right snare. She might say, 'I ain't feeling it.' I could say the same thing. There's been plenty of times when I've said, 'Mariah, I think you need to sing this part over.' But after the last album, we got a pretty good understanding. She knows what I'm looking for from her now. We're hoping we have the same formula this time."

Fall Album Rush
Opening the fall album-release season with discs by 50 Cent and Kanye West is kind of like kicking off your show with the encore. You could stick around for the rest of the gig, but what's the point?

Luckily, after the dust clears from the September 11 showdown between the rap heavyweights, the next few months will bring plenty more fresh tunes worth checking out from fellow rappers (Eve, Chamillionaire, Ja Rule, Rick Ross, Nelly and Lupe Fiasco); R&B divas (Mariah Carey, Nicole Scherzinger, Mya and Jennifer Hudson); rock bands (Foo Fighters, Coheed and Cambria, Hot Hot Heat and Avenged Sevenfold); and smooth singers (Chris Brown, Mario, KT Tunstall and James Blunt).

Who will raise their "Umbrella" this fall and have the back-to-school jam that rivals Rihanna's unstoppable summer hit? We're not sure (though we suspect we know what Kanye's answer would be), so we've laid out the contenders for you.

November 20
Heavyweights: They don't get any bigger than Mariah Carey, and while details on her yet-untitled follow-up to the career-reviving The Emancipation of Mimi album are scare, she recently told fans via a voicemail on her Web site that she's got 10 songs in the bag and is planning to work with old pal Jermaine Dupri.

Related Reading: Breaking Down Album Leaks
Spin's Michael Endelman tells CNN's Shanon Cook how album leaks can be good and bad.

To what extent are album leaks a problem these days?
I would say album leaks are probably one of the biggest problems in the industry. Every single album that's in the stores has been online for months ahead of time by the time it's in the stores.

And who suffers the most from an album leak?
It's hard to say but probably the people who suffer the most are the people who put out bad albums. Because if an album comes out 3 months early online and everyone knows it stinks then they won't buy it. If it's good a lot of times people will still buy it to get the artwork, to have sort of a document to take home with them but if an album is bad and it's online early, it's the worst buzz in the world.

What are some of the major ways that an album does get leaked?
It's almost you want to think of the ways an album doesn't get leaked. I mean, albums get leaked. They can get leaked at the studio when they're mastering the record. They can get leaked to when they're sending it out to journalists, to the press. They can get leaked at the manufacturing plant and though most people won't fez up to it, sometimes labels and artists leak things on purpose themselves to try to sort of gauge the public's response to the record... Most record labels are really trying to keep CDs from going out very early. Two months early, three months early, four months early - that's the period that they're really most worried about.

But what about the press? Because journalists really do get blamed quite a lot.
They do. Journalists get blamed a lot for these album leaks. As someone who receives a lot of albums on early, I can tell you that I'm very careful with my own album advances. I actually keep them under lock & key, under a special drawer because I don't want something to get traced back to me. Some label told us that 70% of all leaks come from the press. To me that seems quite high. Most journalists have, in no way want to leak anything online. Journalists get nothing out of it. We have the music. We understand why we get it early but there's nothing to benefit from that.

How has the online space evolved to make album leaks easier?
I think the introduction of this file-sharing called BitTorrent makes it much, much easier because BitTorrent is sort of decentralized so there's no one person who can be sued or stopped. It's not like it's Napster where there's a company. BitTorrent is this kind of a decentralized software that anyone in the world can access and it makes it super-easy to share these massive files anywhere. No one talks about Oink (oink.me.uk) - that's the first rule of Oink. Oink is sort of a very cultish global group that shares music online and it's known for getting stuff first always. They have the highest quality sound too. It's a members-only club. It's like an exclusive members-only online club for trading early leaks of CDs and it's very hard to get approved and I actually know of people who've been kicked off because they mentioned it in a story but that sort of the main places that a lot of CDs are traded early. YouSendIt and MegaUpload are these great file sharing sites. Now they could be used in an office to send photos or an Excel file or a Microsoft Word document to someone instead of e-mailing but they can also be used to send entire albums.

Will I Am Gets Funky
Live and direct from his home studio in LA, Mr. Will I Am, he of Black Eyed Peas fame, played us cuts from his brand new album, Songs About Girls. As well as hard-knock hip hop, we couldn't help notice a sound that seemed more familiar from our own home turf.

We can tell you the record sounds absolutely massive. With beats by Will, Polow Tha Don and someone else who I actually can't remember, Songs About Girls is over-big. While the guest stars are limited to just Snoop Dizzle, Will has become one of the world's biggest producers of late, producing tracks for Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston.

He even gave us a sneak peak of two brand new tracks by certain superstars - but we promised not to spill the beans! Wouldn't want to get in any trouble.

In an interview earlier today with V-103 FM in Atlanta, Georgia, Jermaine Dupri mentioned that he and Mariah are now both in Atlanta and currently working on her new album while girlfriend, Janet Jackson is in Miami, Florida working on hers with the help of L.A. Reid. He said that if Janet needs his help, he will be there. He, however, said that the reason for the current set-up is so that they can get both albums out this year.

New Mariah, Janet Albums To Compete?
Janet Jackson has followed her boyfriend Jermaine Dupri from Virgin to Island Def Jam, Billboard has learned. "She's on Island, but it's more or less [Def Jam CEO Antonio "L.A." Reid's] project," Dupri says. "I let him deal with that on a day-to-day basis. He's going to A&R that project, too. Janet's record is one that he's wanted to do for a long time. He's very passionate about it.

Jackson's departure from Virgin comes in the wake of two consecutive commercial disappointments: 2004's "Damita Jo" and last year's "20 Y.O." Her departure from the label was widely rumored after Dupri exited the company late last year to become president of Island Urban.

As for the direction of Jackson's as-yet-untitled album, Dupri says, "I don't really know what he's got in mind at this point. His past record isn't shabby so I'm going to let him do what he's going to do. I'm going to do [the new] Mariah [Carey album], and we're going to make it seem like we're in competition to see who's going to have the biggest album of the year."

There is no release date yet for the Jackson album, although rumors suggest it may be ready before the end of the year.

Mariah To Work With Akon?
Akon's voice is one of the most unmistakable - and unavoidable - in music today.

From collaborations with Gwen Stefani, Eminem and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony to his own solo hits to rumored upcoming collabs with Elton John, Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey and even the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the smooth-voiced, Senegal-born singer is a ubiquitous force on the pop charts; to wit, he's currently got four songs in Billboard's Top 40.

Cool & Dre To Work On Mariah's New Album?
In an interview with Mix Tape Kings, Cool, one-half of the hit-making producing duo, Cool & Dre, vaguely hints at a possible collaboration with Mariah Carey.

Even with all his success, Cool is still partially blind to that fact. "When did Cool & Dre feel like they finally made it?" Cool laughs for a few seconds and yells out "Yesterday!" Of course he was kidding. But he makes it clear that such ideas don't really stir their minds. What can I say, the guy is humble. He continues though, "...But when you got Mariah Carey on your phone asking for a hit, then..." He laughs and doesn't finish the sentence; but you get the point.

Meanwhile, Cool & Dre are set to work with Whitney Houston and Christina Milian on their respective upcoming albums.

Bryan Michael Cox Working with Mariah in Anguilla?
Songwriter and record producer Bryan Michael Cox wrote the following blog on his MySpace page on Thursday, April 26th. It hints about a possible collaboration with Mariah Carey who is currently recording her album in Anguilla.

Anguilla...
So, I move around so much that I don't even know where I live anymore. LOL! Then I get a phone call from one of the biggest female recording artists ever to come way to Anguilla and do some writing for her upcoming LP. Of course I came out here. And of course I can't tell you who she is until the album comes out but nonetheless, my phones don't work and I can't recieve any emails via my blackberry (excuse me, I mean "CRACKBERRY"!) However, God has a way of making a person get some rest whether or not they plan it or not! I came out here thinking that we were going to be working all day and all night, turns out we have only been working at nights. Plus I had a night off! So I have been getting my proper rest on! My mother stays on my bumpers about getting rest. Well, Mrs. Pamela Cox-Stagg would be proud to know that I have been doing just that. This place is so beautiful and because I came out here by myself, I have been able to really put a few things into perspective about my life and not JUST my life but life in general. Although I realize that I probably am a work-a-holic (because I enjoy every second of it), I am starting to see that you must take care of yourself physically, personally, and spiritually. You have to take some time to yourself to build those personal relationships properly. Everything can't be about work, work, work. We are built spiritually. We have souls. We have to feed our souls. This is where my creativity is deeply rooted in. My soul. I understand now why romantic relationships are so important to person's psyche. I used to think I knew what romance was. I was dead ass wrong! LOL. I was dead ass wrong about a lot of things but that is what this trip was really about. It was an awakening of sorts. An awakening of a person I knew long before I was making records and working so desperatly to support myself and my family. Sure, I got a lot of work done. We wrote 4 songs. 4 SMASHES! But I was able to take care of my soul for once...

Bryan Michael and Mariah collaborated in the past co-writing and producing hit songs such as "Don't Forget About Us," "Get Your Number," "Shake It Off," "The One," "I Miss You," "How Much," and "All I Want For Christmas (Remix)."

T.I. Working on Mariah's New Album
King T.I. stopped by VIBE today to talk about his forthcoming album TI vs. TIP, movies, and future projects. His interview revealed that he is producing on Mariah Carey's new album.

The King's market acquisition tactics are far from lax. He's working on other peoples' records, and he's got a slew of film projects in the works, too. On the music front, he's been helping BG out with his new record. He's been juicing up his producer game, making beats for artists like Mariah Carey, Cassidy, Rick Ross, Young Joc and Young Dro. "Whether they use the beats or not is up to them," he said.

Quick Notes
• Mariah Working with Cool and Dre? In a recent interview with ManiaTV's Rapper's Delight, Cool from the hip-hop producing team Cool and Dre talked about their future projects and revealed that they are currently working with Mariah. You can watch the interview on YouTube here. At about 6.20 into the video, Cool says, "Mariah's on deck. We sent her the record and she's going crazy right now..."

Cool and Dre are also set to work with Whitney Houston and Mary J. Blige on their upcoming albums. Earlier production works include "So Amazin'" (Christina Milian), "What's My Name" (Chris Brown), "Goodbyes" (Kelis), "No Snitchin'" (Chamillionaire).

• Mariah on New Lil' Wayne Track? Lil' Wayne recently released a song entitled "All Alone" in response to a song from his ex-girlfriend Trina's song about the last days of their relationship. It appears that the same sample of Mariah used by Buccwheat (an underground Los Angeles rapper) on last year's "I Like It" is on Lil' Wayne's track as well. You can listen to the song here. They play the loop mainly toward the end.

• Mariah's Back on Australian Charts. After several months out of ARIA's Urban Top 40, The Emancipation of Mimi is back on the chart at 29!

Mariah To Work With HipHop Producer DJ Toomp on New Album
With his production skills having helped score Grammy Awards for T.I. (best rap solo performance for "What You Know") and Ludacris (best rap album for 'Release Therapy'), DJ Toomp is busy on other hip-hop fronts.

After producing Young Jeezy's latest hit, "I Luv It," he has lined up a slew of additional collaborations on upcoming projects by Young Buck, Busta Rhymes, 8Ball & MJG, Mariah Carey and Slim Thug. Slated to be Ludacris' next single is another DJ Toomp production, "Mouths to Feed." Then there's the hookup he made with Kanye West when the latter did a cameo on an early version of Young Jeezy's "I Got Money," another Toomp contribution to the young rapper's second album, 'The Inspiration.'

In the meantime, thanks to the heightened exposure that can come with such collaborations, DJ Toomp and his NZone Entertainment label partner Bernard Parks Jr. recently signed a new song deal with Island Def Jam chairman Antonio 'L.A.' Reid. And they are planning to build a studio in their home base of Atlanta. By the middle of this year, DJ Toomp and Parks also want to establish a Los Angeles base of operations.

New Information on Mariah's Album
Mariah fan Carlos was one of the attendees at last night's Pinko party in London. He chatted it up with Mark Sudack, a member of Mariah's management, and had the opportunity to ask about Mariah's forthcoming album(s). Here's what he was able to gather from the conversation:

They have a title, and it's certainly NOT "Illusions: The Butterfly Within."

The album is NOT in a complete or near complete state. Mariah will be putting her full focus on it immediately after completion of Tennessee.

They do have an album title and it's more than one word.

If there are two albums this year, one will be the mainstream studio album and the second will be a Christmas one.

The album will be released last quarter of 2007. Nothing until after September. Any dates to the contrary on Billboard sheets are completely untrue.

DJ Clue To Work With Mariah on New Album
In a recent interview with Rashmi Shastri, DJ Clue revealed that he is slated to work with Mariah on a few tracks for her upcoming album.

Whose idea was it to do the remix of Mariah Carey's "Don't Forget About Us"?
Me and Mariah came up with that together. It features Styles P and Fabolous. It has the vibe of the "We Belong Together" remix. You can check the new remix on iTunes and it's on my new album as well.

What is it like working with Mariah?
Mariah is cool and she's fun to be around, we've been friends for a while now and work well together. She brings Jack [her dog] to the studio all the time. I'm supposed to get with her this weekend to work on something for her new album. Once she has an idea we work quick. It's going to be some hot, hip hop music. I'm hopefully going to do a few tracks on that project. It was a good experience DJ'ing for her Emancipation of Mimi tour because the crowd was hype.
