Interesting Tidbits:

Though this will be Mariah's first time performing in Wantagh professionally, Long Island, New York surely hasn't forgotten her powerful pipes. Mariah was born in Huntington, NY and grew up on its music scene. She graduated from Harborsfield High School in 1987. In 1999, Mariah came back to her junior high for a special "Homecoming" concert at her old gym! She toured the school, met with old faculty, and enjoyed going down memory lane in Long Island.

From Fox News: Mariah 'Nails' Her Long Island Comeback

Yes, we went to see Mariah Carey perform at Jones Beach on Sunday night - it was her local-girl-makes-good show, you know. Mariah is a proud Long Islander (and so are we, in part, so we can identify).

The Jones Beach Amphitheater is an outdoor venue, but that didn’t stop Miss Mariah from wearing what was basically a black peignoir set for the first few numbers. Yes, this is lingerie, but it showed off her very toned body. The difference between Mariah and Madonna: yoga. Mariah doesn't do it, Madonna does. Take your pick.

Even when she's hoarse or losing her voice, Mariah still sings like a bird and performs vocal tricks that no one should attempt at home. There's no augmentation - what she has at the moment is what the audience gets, and even with the wind blowing and her midriff bared, Carey managed triple lutzes and some gorgeous notes that were right on target. It's fascinating to watch her try and miss them, too, because her mistakes are often more interesting than her accomplishments.

Sunday night's show was also very much about Mariah's personality - a little eccentric, kind of loopy and happily goofy. She'd changed the entire set list from her previous shows and didn't know which song was next. Some of it seemed like a surprise, even to her. This was kind of a welcome relief from all the pre-packaged performances of late (hello, Justin!).

She brought out Trey Lorenz for the Jackson 5's "I'll Be There" and a medley of some other hits, including "One Sweet Day." Mariah's original hits, "Vision of Love" and "Dreamlover," are still best, and the worst ones - things like "Honey" - remain insurmountable heaps of hip-hop junk that really serve more as filler than anything else.

Certainly, all of that late Sony/Tommy Mottola stuff is far inferior to the material from her recent mega hit "The Emancipation of Mimi" album. And that's thanks to producer/musical chief Randy Jackson, who doesn't get enough credit for pulling Mariah out of that rut.

Funny moments: Carey's long riff about not getting her nails done in time for the show, and telling her local pastor - who performs in the gospel number "Fly Like a Bird" - that she won't be wearing the revealing dress from the show when she sees him next in church. The whole thing works: She's a diva who doesn't take herself too seriously. Mariah is the anti-Madonna, which only means there has to be a Madonna somewhere out there in this universe to balance her out. And that's OK, too.

By Rocco:
I was very pleased when I walked out of the Jones Beach Arena tonight after watching Mariah perform what I consider to be one of her best shows yet.

Sean Paul came on stage at around 7pm and Mariah was on by 9pm. The show began with the "Life is like a rollercoaster ride" video intro and "It's Like That." "Heartbreaker" soon followed with a special guest appearance by D Brat! MC continued to belt out hits like "Dreamlover," "My All," "Vision of Love," and "Shake It Off". Then, Mariah toned the show down a bit and spoke with the fans about her broken finger nail. She jokingly said later on in the show, "If anyone takes a picture of my nail, I'll come down there and steal the film!" What made this moment special was that Mariah showed the audience that she's a real person and knows how to connect with people. She's not the "Diva" everyone thinks she is.

After introducing the True Worship choir on "Fly Like A Bird," Mariah stunned the audience with yet another surprise guest - her dog Jack! After singing "I'll Be There", her and Trey Lorenz played with the dog for a while before eventually introducing Randy Jackson to everyone in the audience. This moment hyped up the audience even more, and when Mariah came back on to do "Don't Forget About Us." the entire audience was singing along to every single word.

She also pleasantly surprised fans with hits like "Always Be My Baby," "Honey" (with DaBrat), and "Close My Eyes." She also did a whole bunch of snippets of songs like "I Wish You Knew," "Can't Let Go," "Thank God I Found You (Remix)," and "Your Girl" (to whom she dedicated to Ri-Ri, a friend of hers in the audience). She called all the oldies "nostalgic moments" of the show and referred to her favorite movie ("Mean Girls") a few times. In honor of Labor Day, Mariah performed "Hero" and closed the show with an encore of "We Belong Together" and "Butterfly Reprise." All I can say is, it was a truly magical night!

By Rudy:
There was no Stay the Night (so I'll probably never see her do it) but she did do CLOSE MY EYES which was a special dedication to Rere in the audience. I believe. Uh oh LOL.

HUGE, beautiful fireworks blasted crazily after the show like it was the Fourth of July. We understood it to be associated with the ending of Mariah's show, since it started at almost the exact moment she exited the stage.

She criticized herself for the fact that her nails weren't done well, and how atrocious it was since, after all, she was a "beauty school dropout." She also mentioned with a knowing wink "us Long Island girls - we like to have our nails done nice."

During "Honey" her guide vocal for her to sing over was delayed by like 4 or 5 seconds, and it was very awkward and you could see she was pissed, but not a word was said of it. Similar complications ensued during "Don't Forget About Us," since the microphone in her ear didn't work for the first half of the song and she thus couldn't hear herself singing.

She also said "stop stop stop..." repeatedly as "Vision of Love" but it was only because she wanted to ask the crowd if they knew what song it was by the opening notes. They (well, the overall crowd) did not, and she proceeded as usual. Despite how it sounds it was not an embarrassing moment.

Also! Randy Jackson appeared on stage just for a little chit chat at a point while Trey was on stage. I believe it was at the end of I'll Be There, right before Trey went through his Never Too Much/A House Is Not a Home/Crazy medley. Also, one final important fact about it - she actually brought Jack and Lisa, who I suppose is his trainer/caretaker, on stage with her at one point and introduced him as her celebrity guest and pleaded with the crowd to make him win the Relly LOL.

By Moony:
The show was amazing! Mariah looked absolutely gorgeous, and her voice was great as well! She put on a lip stick in the middle of the show and tossed it in the audience, which I thought was very cute!

By Valorie:
OMG!!! Tonight was the best MC concert I have ever been to!! I was also at Madison Square Garden, which was great!! But maybe it was because I had first row and center stage, not to brag or anything, but to hear her voice so close and to see Mariah that close was incredible. There are no words to describe how awesome that was. She smiled, winked and looked at us multiple times, she liked the MC tour shirt I had on, especially since I was the only one in the row with it on.

I don't know how the music was in the back or anything, I was at a Kelly Clarkson concert a few weeks ago at the same venue and the music sucked, but Mariah was awesome!! She had an earpiece malfunction, nothing major, but she couldn't hear herself, to see if she was on key, and still she sounded perfect. I remember the first time I heard her, 16-17 years ago, and I was 7, I said to myself, WOW!

All these years later still...WOW!! What a voice! I know I'm going to be partial to her but she's beautiful!! I mean I knew she was but again...WOW!! I have no words, this was an expreience that I'll never forget!!

Well I was there tonight. I was also at Madison Square Garden. The show was called for 7pm but at 7pm it was mostly empty. The seats started to fill up at 7:30pm thats when Sean Paul came out. I thought the crowd really liked him eventhough it was mostly white middle-class people from Long Island.

Mariah came out about 9pm. We waited about 40 minutes for her. She came out wearing the same outfit: black hot pants and bra with a cape and sang It's Like that. Them, Da Brat came out and rapped to the intro of Heartbreaker. Then she sang Vision of Love.

The people loved her but where I was sitting, no one was singing or dancing so I sat down and just clapped a lot. Didn't want to stand out. She spoke about her finger nails not being done, and brought out her dog Jack out telling everyone to vote for him online. Then she brought out Randy Jackson.

The only thing she did different was she dropped Fantasy with Old Dirty and instead sang Honey.

All and all it was a really good show and she was again in great voice. She sang some snippets for her fans in the front. She introduced her hairdresser, telling everyone he won some award for being the best 'colorist' in Hollywood. And someone gave her a stuffed lamb.

By Marilena:
I cannot believe that I enjoyed Jones Beach twice as much as the awesome Madison Square Garden show! They were BOTH GREAT shows but Jones definitely surpassed by far!! MSG had more guest stars BUT Jones had MORE MARIAH!!!! and what's better than that?? NOTHING!!! Very Happy!

She talked to us and her lambs like we were all best friends - she seemed SO comfortable and happy to be in Long island!! She joked like crazy and sang so many different songs that she didn't sing in MSG!

Jack was there and so was Randy Jackson! He walked right next to me! People thought she was done after she sang Hero BUT I KNEW MARIAH was returning - lots of unbelievers left BUT i freaking stayed there still yelling and jumping! AND SURE ENOUGH SHE RETURNED with a beautiful confetti butterfly finale!

And as if the show couldn't be more perfect when it was over, I mean like RIGHT over - the Jones Beach Labor Day fireworks began! Magnificent! I was like entranced the whole way back to my car!

She put on a great show and she looked hot as usual and the sound was amazing! I was in Orchestra G and was at first kinda pissed that I had to check my poster I brought because I know she would have seen it! But I bought the tour bok and waved that the whole time. Better than nothing i guess.

Money well spent and what an amazing end to my summer!!!
