From The Providence Journal: Mariah is The Voice, but not much else
BOSTON -- When you're talking about Mariah Carey, it all starts with the voice. Or, as she billed it herself on the tour that rolled into the TD Banknorth Garden last night, The Voice.
It was in good shape last night, but it's one thing to have such a force of nature; it's another to know what to do with it. And I'm not talking about the oversinging she's so often accused of; that's her deal, and if you can't get used to that, well, this deep into her career you've given it a fair shot. (It only grated on the encore, "We Belong Together.") She's still head-and-shoulders above the generation of American Idol doofuses trying to follow in her footsteps.
But on the hip-hop-influenced material that's come to dominate her recorded output, such as the set opener "It's Like That," "Heartbreaker" (with video rap cameo from Jay-Z) and "Fantasy" (with video rap cameo from Ol' Dirty Bastard), she fell victim to the Van Halen syndrome -- imitating one's imitators and undermining one's own strengths -- sounding like any one of a number of thin-voiced contemporary R&B divas, with a couple of the trademark Carey helium notes thrown in so you know whom you're dealing with, but to not much other discernible effect.
The Voice was used to better effect on opulent R&B such as the old hit "Dreamlover" and "Fly Like a Bird" and "I Wish You Knew" (from last year's The Emancipation of Mimi album), when she wasn't singing like she had something to prove, which unfortunately isn't nearly as often as you'd think it would be at this stage of her career. This is the stuff very few singers Carey's age or younger are doing, because very few can handle it. But there wasn't enough last night, and too many forgettable recent hits.
The pacing of the show was a bit of a mess. The middle of the set was loaded with filler, including a DJ spotlight and a three-song set from "I'll Be There" vocal partner Trey Lorenz. The end of the show was bogged down with another DJ spotlight, snippets of songs such as "I Wish You Knew" and forced banter from Carey before finishing up with "Hero" and "Make It Happen."
When The Emancipation of Mimi came out last year, more than a few people wondered exactly what it was she claimed to be emancipated from. Similarly, the introductory video to last night's concert featured footage of a roller coaster with a voiceover from Carey about how life was like, well, a roller coaster. Ups and downs, hold on, that sort of thing.
That was pretty much it for the philosophizing, and while that may have been just as well, most of the material seemed to come from a mindset most commonly expressed in the margins of a notebook during third-period algebra: Look inside you and be strong. I'm gonna shake you off. Baby, don't forget about us. Make it happen.
Which is a shame. At this point, with her raw talent, Carey should be leading, not following. Sure, Emancipation was last year's top seller. But last night's show didn't leave the impression of a young singer baring her soul or an older singer baring her scars. Or much of anything. Except The Voice.
Opener Sean Paul was a rousing force, using a DJ, a backing band and synthesized beats to re-create some of his biggest hits, particularly from his latest album, The Trinity. The live band gave new life to such dancehall hits as "We Be Burnin'" and "Get It On."
From Boston Herald: Carey on: Mariah proves comeback's complete
Not too many pop singers can finesse massive crowds in their underwear. But Mariah Carey isn't your everyday pop singer.
When Carey's 2001 release, "Glitter," bombed commercially, she probably couldn't have sold out your local Best Buy. Even in her intimates. But with the muscle of her recent Billboard blockbuster, "The Emancipation of Mimi," behind her, Carey had the TD Banknorth Garden packed with her usual fan base: kids, moms, dads, thugs, chicks, players and everyone else in between.
But a spectacle on par with Carey can't be unveiled without a proper intro. Her mere presence calls for a worthy opening act, which last night came from Jamaican dancehall dynamo Sean Paul, who is for many to reggae what Carey is to r & b. He racks up hit singles the way UPS drivers collect parking tickets. Jamming through dancehall hits such as "We Be Burnin'" and "Get It On," Paul energized people who came to hear him as well as Carey die-hards waiting patiently for their hero.
Carey's intro was hysterically dramatic. She emerged to a recording of her waxing poetic about how life is like a roller coaster. When her fans finished wiping their tears, they braced for the show.
In a salute to rappers who have laid verses on her most popular tracks, Carey paid homage to MCs she's collaborated with.During "Heartbreaker," Jay-Z cameos filled the video monitors, and for "Fantasy," deceased rap star Ol' Dirty Bastard's verse was given a full salute.
But Carey's catalog is even more impressive than her vocals and the MCs who have complemented her choruses. For every dance track she flung in the beginning of her set, she unfurled a "Vision of Love" or "Hero." Her fame might have briefly faded from 2000 to 2003, but Carey's vocal chords never left the building.
No track triggered more tears and screams than "Always Be My Baby," a song Carey let her fans sing most of. Halfway ballads such as "Honey" inspired tears, but it took her hit "Hero" to trigger the night's most significant emotions.
There are rumors about how Carey resents her fans and how she disrespects the backroom talents who engineer her career. But at a venue as mammoth as the Garden, none of that seemed relevant so long as she reigned over the crowd as expected.
From Boston Globe: Carey is glittery and golden at Garden
For all her diva posturing, Mariah Carey is just another giddy fan inside that curvaceous body she likes to display at all times.
And the best moments during last night's 95-minute installment of Carey's current tour -- "The Adventures of Mimi: the Voice, the Hits, the Tour" -- at the TD Banknorth Garden were when she let that exuberant music lover out to play alongside the bombshell with the glass-shattering voice.
Whether it was the offhand, almost unconscious, rapping along with video of duet partners like Jay-Z and the late ODB, the teasing of her band and dancers, or the singing of a sincere "Happy Birthday" to a devoted sign-waving fan, Carey was at her most likable when she seemed to be enjoying herself as opposed to counting in her head how many hip shimmies she had to do during "Shake it Off."
Of course those hip shimmies (Carey's and those of her considerably more rhythmically gifted sextet of dancers), the peek-a-boo costumes, the mammoth silver-and-white stage dotted with a quintet of video screens, and the big hair were all part of the spectacle one expects. And the singer worked the stage with as much grace as a scantily clad woman in towering heels can.
The pageantry was a bit silly at times, including the requisite intro video of Carey comparing her life to a roller coaster and then falling through the clouds. Trey Lorenz made an "entrance" to huge cheers for Carey's lovely cover of the Jackson 5's "I'll Be There," but he had been on stage all night as part of her trio of backing vocalists. (A medley by the genial Lorenz meant to promote his forthcoming album somewhat defeated the purpose by consisting solely of covers of Luther Vandross and Gnarls Barkley, but presented an excellent restroom break for many in the crowd.)
The generous set list drew on her collection of 17 number one hits, with emphasis on her more recent rhythm and blues successes. Mariah and the crowd, 12,232 strong, followed every impressive trill, belt, and canine whistle with rapt devotion and vigorous sing-alongs.
She hit her breakthrough anthem "Vision of Love" early and strong, summoning up a gospel grit that felt earned and would recur on songs like "Fly Like a Bird," the raucous, choir-assisted set-closer "Make it Happen," and, during a medley, an earthy duet of "Thank God I Found You" with Lorenz. That one particular felt like a glimpse at what takes place on the tour bus, two friends harmonizing with easy joy.
The more calculated balladry of "Hero" and up-tempo, breezy numbers like "Heartbreaker," "Fantasy" -- sung on a B-stage near the back of the arena -- and "Honey" lacked that same grit, but the former drew a fervent ovation and the latter trio got the hips moving and the crowd jumping. "We Belong Together " ended the show in a spurt of hitching dance grooves and glittery purple confetti.
From Lowell Sun: Mariah Carey Connects in Diva-licious Concert
Mariah Carey's "The Adventures of Mimi Tour" made a stop at the TD Banknorth Garden in Boston Monday night and brought with it hits, hotties, and of course, lots of glitter.
The crowd of mostly teen girls was warmed up by the sexy voice and suggestive moves of Sean Paul, who performed a string of his hits, beginning with "Like Glue." Along with his four backup dancers, he brought enough energy to the stage to have everyone out of their seats during his entire 45-minute set.
After a long 75-minute intermission, the curtains - adorned with the initials "MC" in pink glitter - opened to reveal a stage fit for a queen: Mariah had arrived.
Beginning with her hit "It's Like That," Carey announced her mission for the night - "I came to have a party" - and the crowd's deafening screams showed they were ready for just that. Decked out in skimpy purple-glitter booty shorts and crop top, Carey hit those infamous high notes and delighted the crowd with their favorite songs, old and new.
The elegant two-level stage came complete with four video screens, a star-filled backdrop with a disco beaded curtain and was topped off with "MC" right in the center. It was a perfect fit for the diva who has poise and confidence, as Carey clearly did.
There was a sweet moment when Carey slowed it down and sang the ballad "My All" as she stood on the stairs in a single spotlight. Shadows of a couple dancing behind a screen set the mood for this older hit, as fans sang along with the song about wishing for one more moment with the one you love.
With a quick change back to the upbeat "Shake It Off," lights spelling "Mimi" came down onto the stage. Carey danced in front of them, teasing the audience with a moment of pole-dancing.
She took it way back with her first single from 1990, "Vision of Love" and told the audience that second show of her career was in Boston and was the best of her life. She chatted with fans as if they were all good friends and even took a moment to sing "Happy Birthday" to a male fan in the audience.
Carey made a number of diva-style wardrobe changes into sexy-yet-elegant dresses that still didn't stint on glitter. Midway through the show, she moved to a smaller stage in the middle of floor and the audience went wild with the chance to get a better view of their idol.
As the show drew to a close, Carey dedicated "Hero" to anyone who has been through any tough situation and had the audience singing along and waving their hands in the air. For an upbeat ending, a full gospel choir in white robes joined Mariah and her dancers on stage for "Make It Happen."
Carey then graced the stage in a skin-colored, full-length dress for the encore song, "We Belong Together." As she said good night to Boston and walked off the stage to "Butterfly," glitter cannons exploded sending pink and purple butterfly shaped glitter over the audience - a graceful ending for a diva-licious evening.
From Sun Chronicle: Carey puts talent, and more, on display
It kind of made sense that Mariah Carey opened Monday night’s show at the TD Banknorth Garden with, of all things, a rollercoaster.
In a voiceover accompanying the onscreen rollercoaster ride, Carey described the ups and downs that have defined her 15-year career-record-breaking hits and massive popularity, massively huge missteps (think "Glitter") and hideaways from the public at large.
But Carey didn’t become the best-selling female artist of all time by accident. And if her latest album, the multi-platinum monster "Emancipation of Mimi," wasn’t proof enough that she’s back at the top of her game, then Monday night’s two-hour set was.
The newly svelte songstress appeared onstage clad in a fuschia bikini and sheer black pseudo-cape to the tune of "It’s Like That," a hip hop-flavored number that signaled her rise from the ashes in 2005.
Video appearances by hip hop icons throughout the performance hinted at Carey’s crossover appeal, with Jay-Z mugging onscreen during "Heartbreaker," the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard rap-growling on "Fantasy" and Mase getting face time on the heavy funk of "Honey."
As good as those songs were, Carey was at her best during slow to midtempo ballads like "Don’t Forget About Us," the gospel-tinged "Fly Like a Bird" and "Always Be My Baby," her first song with hitmaker Jermaine Dupri.
Fans who had recently jumped on the Mimi bandwagon-and judging by the age of the audience, there were many-were unfamiliar with the inspirational "Make It Happen," not to mention her first single, "Vision of Love."
Thankfully everyone knew the words to the Jackson 5 classic, "I'll Be There" featuring Carey’s protégé Trey Lorenz, who hung around to perform a tribute to the late Luther Vandross during one of Carey’s four wardrobe changes.
Those wardrobe changes, along with backup dancers, a live backing band, and a winding staircase onstage, certainly didn’t hurt the ambiance Monday night.
But it was The Voice, five octaves of glass-shattering power, that carried the show, never better than on Carey’s final song, "We Belong Together."
Tearing up the ballad in a skin-tight gold gown and stiletto heels, Carey proved she remains one of few female performers with sex appeal and a set of pipes to match.
Sean Paul was a surprisingly impressive opening act.
Hits like "We Be Burnin,’" "Give It Up To Me" and "Temperature" bumped as Paul interspersed his borderline corny one-legged hops with hip thrusts that drew manic screams from female audience members.
It’s hard to say what was more enthralling - his Jamaican accent and suggestive dance moves, or the music itself.
Whatever it was, it worked.

Fan Reviews:
By Byron:
I loved the show. I was a bit nervous that it wouldn't be up to my expectations, but she was amazing. The only thing I didn't like was the DJ filler and that stuff - seemed a bit distracting from Mariah's show, but it was still ok. People seemed to be into it.
Also, one of the 3 digital screens that are in the center backdrop throughout the show had a malfunction from "Honey" onward. The whole right screen did not work after that. And it was interesting that none of the videos were shown that were used in other shows. That would've been much better filler for her costume changes.
Also, she left during the dance portion of "My All" as though it was a costume change, but came back for "Shake It Off" in the same purple outfit. Seemed like a mistake to me!
ALSO, I was actually sitting right behind the guy [Rick Massimo] that reviewed the concert from the Providence Journal. He left his seat there after the first couple songs (probably to get a different perspective?? who knows). I did talk to him briefly before the show since I knew he was a reviewer. He was clearly not going to like it. Here's what I wrote to him after reading the review:
Mr. Massimo,
While I can see where you are coming from on at least one aspect of last night's Mariah Carey concert in Boston (disjointed intervals of DJ filler), I must say that you, like so many of your contemporaries have, missed the point. That point is to entertain, and in turn hopefully improve and build up lives with your talent instead of bringing others down. Mariah Carey was guilty of nothing more than just that.
It's disappointing that your review is yet another unsurprising jab at Mariah's career; an obviously biased account of a show you were clearly being paid to be present at as opposed to the majority last night. Where were you when some fans were so moved by Mariah's singing of songs like "Hero" or "One Sweet Day"? I happen to know that you left your 2nd row seat and became a "back seat reviewer" after the first couple of songs. But then, before the show even began it was apparent what kind of review you were about to churn out. Perhaps I am discerning, or maybe I'm just used to reviews of this type from people who obviously have no real interest in this type of music or show.
Maybe you, Mr. Massimo, could learn something from someone like Mariah Carey. Perhaps the world could use a few more people that don't want to bring others down for a living. We could use a few more people with the heart of Miss Carey, not to mention that voice, regardless of what style of music she performs.
An appreciative fan (of Mariah's that is)

By Greg:
It was my best fan experience. She is such a good performer. Mariah is not sick anymore. She sounded top notch.
NEW purple ensemle for "It's Like That." I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me.
Three very nice blind people sat a row back from me. They were soo into it; all friends. What sucked though was when Mariah went to the B Stage, cause no one told them, and they were singing a dancing really hard, and the whole auditorium shifted, so the people in front of them were laughing and being nasty.
It's fair to say that the floor was fags, hags, and hetero older women who dragged a husband. Some older gentleman confessed that he was so excited for the show that he'd been puking the whole day. I think it shows Mariah who the die hards are, if they are willing to shell out for the floor.
The set list? Nothing new. Mariah digs the signs. I was fifth row, and she read every sign in the pit and commented on them a bazillion times. She walked through the audience and it was heavenly.
Her and Trey had a lot of interaction. Trey even made a comment about all of them talking about moving to Boston.
She was pretty perfect!
By Rory:
OMG! Incredible! She sounded AMAZING and she looked so hott. All I have to say is that B-Stage is A MIRACLE. I had great floor seats to begin with, but when she was on the B Stage for those three songs, I was literally RIGHT THERE as close as i could be to her it was so awesome. Mariah really gave her all and seemed in a great mood.
By Jonny:
Happy Birthday to ME! From now on I will be known as "Mr Boston" ..."cuz I don't know your name!!" LOL! I was the one Mariah sang happy birthday to! My sign said: "Wednesday is my 24th BDay/ Will you sing to me at MSG? I'll Be There" so she read it out loud and right after she read, "Wednesday is my 24th Bday" she goes, "Yeah mine too!" so she was like, "I'll just sing to you now for Wednesday." Definitely the highlight of my night, LOL, my mom had to grab my arm, she told me I was shaking.
Mariah also saw my other sign, it said "I came to have a party/feelin' so hot tamale." During Dreamlover she saw it and looked at me and smiled and I pointed back at her then after the song was done she goes, "Yeah I did come to have a party! There's a sign up here that says I came to have a party..."
So I definitely had a good time. I can't even begin to write a coherent review of the concert right now so I'm not even going to attempt. LOL!
By DefaultUser:
I gotta say, the show was incredible. I absolutely loved it. Mariah seemed so confident and comfortable on stage. She looked like she was just having fun and it showed in her performance.
But, the only negative issue of the night was her lateness. I know its normal for her to be late as she likes to play up the diva image, but people were getting hostile. The arena actually rippled with "boos" when she crossed the hour mark and didn't show on stage. It wasn't a small section of people either. People were "booing" all over the arena.
Other than that, she was amazing from start to finish and this show had a lot more fun and energy than the Charmbracelet tour.
Her merchandise does sell out like crazy but they get a new stock at intermission between the opening act and her, so you can use the hour and 20 minutes that Mariah delays to go back to the stands if something you wanted was sold out. That's how I got a copy of the tour book. It was sold out before the show but they got more at intermission.
By Mike [rainbow1199]:
I went to the concert with my friend who is also a Mariah fan but not nearly as big a fan as me lol. We got there around 7 so I actually bought a tour book before they sold out. Sean Paul went on right at 7:30 actually. He did all his hits and he had everyone up and dancing. He ended around 8:15 and an hour later, Mariah came on (I used the time to buy myself a MIMI shirt). When the rollercoaster intro played, I think I had a small heart attack. When JD was on the screen going "It's like that y'all/that ya'll" I felt faint. And when Miss Mariah came out on stage with "I came to have a party!" I just lost it. I was jumping up and down screaming like a maniac lol. Everyone in my row thought I was insane. I just wanna say, I thought Mariah's high-pitched voice at the concert was too cute for words. After It's Like That she did Heartbreaker, and let me tell you, I got even more excited for Heartbreaker than It's Like That. She did the remix into the original and it was so hot, everyone was dancing and singing along (actually, I was on my feet dancing and singing along the entire time lol).
After Heartbreaker, she did Dreamlover but for the 2nd verse she went into this hot remix of the song. It was very cool and gave the song new life. Then she did My All. I gotta tell ya, I was crying a little bit. It was so beautiful. Then she went into the dance version which was the coolest thing ever (except she left the stage for some reason lol). Then she did Shake It Off. My friend and I agreed that Shake It Off was probably the worst song that night. There wasn't anything wrong with it, it just doesn't play very well live like her other songs. Then she left for one of her long costume changes. They didn't play the Spike Lee videos for some reason but oh well. While she was gone, DJ Clue spun some really hot songs. Everyone was dancing, it was like a nightclub or something.
She then came back to do Vision of Love. It was one of my fave songs of the night. Her voice was in excellent condition. When she was building up to that final note, she was really taking her time and some frustrated guy yelled "SING IT B!TCH" but it was funny lol and then she did hit the final note and I was on my feet clapping for five minutes straight. Then she did Fly Like A Bird which was beautiful, simply beautiful. She hit every note. At this point I think is when she saw the guy with his "It's my birthday" sign so she sang Happy Birthday to him lol. It was sweet. Then she did I'll Be There with Trey which was cute, but kinda just like they always perform it on every concert. When she left Trey sang some songs, he was ok but not Mariah. My friend and I sat down for him lol.
When she came back, she was walking through the crowd to the B-stage, and she walked right in front of our row! Two girls behind me who new I was a huge Mariah fan cause of my disturbing behavior were like "Look, look!" lol Then she did the B-stage which was awesome cause our seats were right next to it. She performed Fantasy which was great (my friend said it was her fave song) and then Don't Forget About Us. When she hit that high note, the crowd literally went wild. Her last song on the B-stage was Always Be My Baby. Now at this point I gotta tell y'all about my sign: one one side it said "Mariah, You're My Hero" with cute letters but the other side was a true work of art- it was a collage of all her album covers (with Rainbow in the center, naturally) with multi-colored butterfly stickers on it. My friend took pictures of it lol. During Always Be My Baby, I would hold up the sign and at one point I think she saw it cause she waved at me and pointed. I nearly died right there on the floor. Then she went back to the main stage to do Honey, which was marvelous, before going for her last costume change.
This is where we got to the "snippet" part of the show. First she came out doing the "I don't know if anyone else out there tonight..." part and did the chorus of I Wish You Knew, with high notes and everything. I should mention that she did a little "introduction" for every snippet. She also did Can't Let Go, which was beautiful, and One Sweet Day, which I liked more than the album version even though it was just a snippet lol. Then she introduced Thank God I Found You, she was like "This song is from the Rainbow album" and good Lord I nearly passed out just hearing her say that Thank God I Found You was simply gorgeous, and to those who say it's not well-known, I noticed a lot of people singing along in my section so ha. She then went into Hero and I was crying again lol. I've never cared for the song too much but live it is just simply amazing. After that was Make It Happen, another song which I don't like that much on CD but live...wow. The choir really added to the song. Everyone was on their feet clapping along.
She then left the stage. Some stupid people were leaving, thinking it was over. I was like, "have you crazy people forgotten WE BELONG TOGETHER???" lol So yeah she came out for the encore. We Belong Together was beautiful. There's no other word for it. I was cheering the entire time. When she went for that last "...we belong togetheeeeeer" man did she hit it. Then the Butterfly reprise came on and confetti was sprayed into the crowd. The perfect ending to a perfect show. If you haven't bought tix yet, I really urge you to. This is by far the best concert I've ever been to. Just seeing Mariah in person is worth the price lol. Her voice was amazing, my friend and I agreed she is better live than on CD cause she made both of us love songs we didn't really care for. There was no lipping that I could see. All in all, it was a wonderful night that I will never forget.
By Frank:
WOW!!!!! What can I say MIMI was back and on point!!!!!
First, Boston was pretty relaxed on the whole camera deal. They didn't even pat me down going in to the concert. Now they did yell at some people when they seen people started getting picture happy, but over all they were cool. They weren't nasty about it at all unlike some other places have been.
I was sitting 13th row and there were one girl behind me that it was her first Mariah concert and her sister which was he first concert ever. I couldn't think of any other person to see in a first concert than Mariah. And there were 2 other girls that came from North Jersey for the concert. 5 hours by bus. I drove 5 1/2 hrs and the concert was great! And there was a guy and girl that was sitting next to me. They are big Mariah fans too and they were pretty cool people too. And the guy to my left would give me a heads up when security came around...lol. So the area I was in was a pretty good area. I hope that they all forgive me for not remembering their names, I'm bad at names..... Sorry guys.
I'm not really sure when Mariah came out. I think that it was somewhere around 9:15 pm. There was about an hour between Sean Paul and Mariah. People were starting to get annoyed that it was taking her so long to come out. They even started booing.... but when she came out she more than made up for it and there were nothing but cheers and she more than made up for the time.
Mariah started off the concert with "It's Like That" same as all the other concerts but for 1 thing. Instead of her black top and boyshorts she changed it up with a purple set. I think I like the purple. She looked fabulous and always.
Mariah was clearly feeling better from last week. She even commented about how the audience was so much better than at the last stop and even saying she was having some stage fright Saturday in "a place that will remain nameless" as she said.... but I'll say it - Atlantic City!! LOL!
I was chatting it up with the audience and pointing out and reading all the signs... She even sang happy birthday to someone whose birthday is Wednesday. She is so cute and she is, I would say, the best star/diva for the fans because she really does love her real fanbase.
So far she has done something to change up her shows. I went to all of them so far except for the Atlanta 1 and It's fun to try to figure out what she changes in the concert. Like this time she changed the color of her opening outfit and she came to the B stage from the left of the audience instead of the center or right like she did before. BUT she cut out the bathroom video skit yet again. I hope she puts it back in for the MSG concert because it's cute.
The concert was GREAT... Mariah was hitting her notes and no signs of stage fright at this concert. And I can't wait for Wednesday! I think that concert is going to be HOT.
By Caleb:
I had great seats... I was 3 rows back from the stage, but 4 rows up the left side. The seats couldn't have been better for me.
I wanna say that I hope every fan gets to experience the spectacular show that is the Adventures of Mimi. It totally exceeded my expectations. Her outfits were BEAUTIFUL. The internet pictures don't do them justice. The flow of the concert was great. Her vocals were astounding!!! She had imperfections here and there, but that is what made her voice even better. She nailed the Don't Forget About Us and Fly Like a Bird belting. Her high notes were incredible throughout the show....Gave me strong tingles. My favorite performances were probably Don't Forget About Us, Fantasy, Fly Like A Bird, and Hero. I cried during the latter two. Those performances made me get really emotional. The whole B stage idea was great. I loved the couple interludes with DJ Clue. It really gave the show a nice party atmosphere.
The only negative aspect with the show was the long break between Sean Paul and Mariah's concert. She really should consider to shorten it a bit. I think it was 1 to 1.2 hr break between the two. The crowd got really pissy and were booing at the end of the break, but when MC got out they were really into it and gave her tons of love.
By babygirl05986:
Last night I attended the Boston "Adventures of Mimi" show. I was so excited and I am so satisfied with Mariah's stellar performance! After a long wait of over an hour, she finally come out, and performed "It's Like That." I loved the new purple outfit, she looked amazing! I am still in awe that she could walk around in those huge heels all night!
Mariah read a lot of the fan signs, and even sang "happy birthday" to an audience member. She was very social with her fans, and tried to touch hands with fans as she went from stage B to stage A. She and Trey had a lot of interaction, and he sang a few songs, and promoted his new album. DJ Clue was also there, and would play songs as we waited for Mariah to come out again between sets. I didn't really enjoy that, I would have preferred to see the videos that she did with Spike Lee.
Overall, Mariah's performances were breathtaking and flawless. Her voice was amazing, I was blown away. It was an experience that I will never forget, and I highly recommend that everyone see Mariah at least once in their lives! She is truly a Diva in the most respected sense.
By Billy Bob the Duck:
I just happened to be in Beantown for a few days and of course was completely without any internet connection so of course, I was completely floored when I was flipping through the paper and saw a foot tall Mimi in an article about her upcoming Boston show! So i went downstairs to the concierge (I was staying at the Four Seasons) and he
was really cool and hooked me up with two $55 tickets, of course in the nosebleed section. Big ups to Walter!
Anyway I was pretty much crappin my pants on the T going over the venue and I bought a $4 hot dog and sat down, just when the lights started scattering and Sean Paul's music started blaring! He really did a great job of pumping the crowd up... maybe even too good of a job, because the audience was getting a little bit more than restless during the hour wait for Mariah. They were playing songs like Chris Brown and Kelis and Lil John and everytime a song would end, people would cheer and then they'd boo! The booing was really loud and relentless... of course all the real fans on the floor weren't doing the booing. I wouldn't be surprised if the b*tch from the Providence Journal wasn't leading the booing.
Whatever, people stopped booing once MC came out and I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me when I saw her new purple ensemble. The show pretty much went as planned, a couple songs were cut but that's alright. I liked how she ended We Belong Together differently from any of the other shows, and it sounded even better than the album ending, in my opinion. Well, you can expect a muchhhh better and more well thought out review when I catch Mimi in Chicago on the 11th! Much love.
