August 26th, 2003 was definetely one of the best nights of my life!!! Well at first it didn't seem like it. I was driving down from Oklahoma and when I got to Dallas traffic was horrible! A 30 minute drive through Dallas took me about an hour and 45 minutes! And it was raining too so that didn't help. Well I got to the hotel where the fan meeting was and barely got there in time to get in the carpool going to the concert. I didn't even have time to change so I brought my clothes to change into at the venue. I even forgot my camera in the car, but it's no biggie, I wasn't desperate to take pictures anyways. Well we left for the theatre, and that took longer too! A 10 minute drive took like an hour because we listened to "Through The Rain" to "Subtle Invitation" on the "Charmbracelet" CD! We finally got there and picked up our passes, and I got in line to buy my t-shirt and program, then quickly ran to the bathroom and changed.

Well, then I went to take my seat and talked to some fans (Hey Amy!) that were sitting all around me. The theatre is amazing! There seriously isn't a bad seat anywhere! Well then we just chatted until she came out, and when she did, she came out right by my row!!! It was amazing!!! We heard the intro to "Heartbreaker (Remix)" and out she came of the door! She walked in and stopped a few feet in front of me and sang some lines!!! I was in such shock!!! Because she was just standing there singing in front of me!!! And she was just looking straight at me and I was just staring back at her! It was a moment, haha. Well then she walked down the aisle and the moment was over, and continued singing "Heartbreaker." Well the concert was amazing. I was amazed at her voice and the power behind it.

My favorite performances were "Through The Rain" (I had to fight back tears!), "Subtle Invitation", "Make It Happen", and "Always Be My Baby" was really cute because she dedicated it to all the babies and said "Because I know I'm still a baby" and the dancers threw beach balls into the audience. All the performances were amazing, and I really can not pick the best one or even the top 3.

Well it was a long trip but it was worth every penny. I drove 350 miles to dallas from my home. Right before the concert a huge thunderstorm moved through. And cleared out right before the concert. Mariah opened up in Dallas a little late but the fans were very excited to see her once she came out. Loud cheers and applause filled the theatre. Even though I was on the top section I still had great seats and saw everything very clearly. Mariah started the show off with Heartbreaker. Then afterwards said "This next song is very appropiate considering the weather out side. Then she sang "Through the Rain" she didn't hold back her voice was beautiful and so smooth. Next she sang "Clown" and had a dancer that acted like a puppet. She also did her classics like "Fantacy" "Always be my Baby" & "Vision of love". When she did "Mariah's Theme" she got really into it and got on her knees at the end as she said "They can try but they can't take that away from me." At the very end she sang "hero" and dedicated to all of the fans who had been with her from the begining. It was a beautiful amazing experience that I will never forget... I love Mariah even more

Oh my gosh! What can I say? I still can't believe I saw Mariah Carey live in concert last night in Grand Prairie! The show started with a bang, no opening act, just all Mariah, heehee! The concert was to start at 8pm but didn't start until about 8:50 or 9pm.

She walked in from the left side of the venue, right in front of my section. She looked so beautiful and her smile was just amazing!! Surrounded by her bodyguards, so belted out "Heartbreaker Remix", then paused beside the section closest to the stage and sang a little bit and eventually made her way to the stage where she broke into "Heartbreaker" pop version. Her dancers were playing the part of the paparazzi, taking photo after photo, she would pose and smile for the cameras, heehee.

Things slow paced when she sang "Through The Rain", one word to describe it: Incredible. Mariah's voice is truely a gift, she is a true performer!! Throughout the whole night, she sang her A** off! The introduction of her band is so cute, and she sings it so cool! And when the keyboard player played the high pitch key, Mariah of course matched it with one of the most perfect and longest high notes I have ever heard her make!!! YAY! GO MARIAH!

During "I Know What You Want", she did the sexy booty roll with her female dancers, that was so funny! She can really dance! "Always Be My Baby" was amazing, throughout the whole song she only used her upper range and made full use of her multiple ovtaves voice. I really wanted to hear her sing Emotions because of the high notes and because I just love the song, but that's ok!

During "Bringin' On The Heartbreak", she really worked the microphone and of course sang her a** off once again, and after she went off stage to change again, the band continued to rock the house of course with the electric guitars and drums.

"My Saving Grace" was incredible also! I really don't remember her singing "Dreamlover", I suppose she did though. "My All" was awesome, how towards the end, she sang lines from the club mix but to the softer album version beat, then music changed into the remix beat!!

During "Subtle Invitation", she was lowered from the ceiling on the white sheet, she looked amazing in that white dress. She gently landed onto the piano with the pink butterfly stickers on it and began to sing, and towards the end where she really brings it out, vocally, she ran up to the audience and blew me away! ha!

She did a great rendition of "I'll Be There", she sang it a little different, adding different touches here and there while singing it! "Fantasy Remix" was awesome also of course, one of the main songs everyone was waiting to hear and dance to I might add! Heehee!!

The beat to "Honey" was slightly different, instead on the piano sound in the song there was an electric sound to take the piano place in the song. "Can't Take That Away" was the chosen song for Grand Prairie / Dallas. She said that was pretty much the song us fans were voting for!!!

She really got the crowd pumped up during "Make It Happen". Everyone was dancing and clapping to the song!! And after all her dancers and backup singers came to join her on stage to take a bow and tell us thank you for coming. She exited off stage. Of course the whole audience screamed for her because we knew she was coming back! Heehee! We screamed and cheered and clapped forever and then the ringmaster came out to see which side of the audience could be the loudest, we all cheered the whole time he was doing the little who can be the loudest contest! ha! He exited off stage and Mariah came back out from the top of the stage and sang "Vision of Love" and then "Hero".

I loved when she pointed to everyone at the end of the song, singing "You and you and you, you...." She told us thank you so much and that she loves us!!! I love you too Mariah! heehee! I went hoarse trying to scream "I love you" so that she could hear me! The music to "Butterfly" started playing and she walked back up the stairs singing parts of the song. And turned around and gave us all a huge smile and waved goodbye to us! I am so truely blessed to have gone to the concert!!! Thank you so much Mariah!!!!!!

Review by Daniel A. Kusner (Dallas Voice) Mariah can sing — just ignore the showgirl crap
With her reputation as a true diva at stake, Mariah Carey scored major points when her tour stopped at NextStage on Tuesday night. The 33-year-old pop queen has a lot to prove: Two years have passed and Glitter still remains a box-office punch line, and the failure of that blockbuster eventually led to her much-publicized “emotional and physical breakdown.” And who can forget that Virgin Records gave this powerhouse vocalist a $28 million settlement to not sing for them anymore?

Perhaps her troubles are behind her, because the new Mariah still sounds fantastic, and she’s never looked prettier or happier. You just wish she’d realize that she doesn’t need a bunch of onstage junk to distract from her best assets — that crystalline and silvery voice combined with a woman who can evoke the supernatural by nailing amazingly written power ballads with Olympian key changes and progressions.

Her onstage set was like funky living room decorated in what could best be described as “all over the place.” The entire concept was like a watered-down Las Vegas revue. Flashes of Moulin Rouge, marionettes, circus clutter, espionage spoofs and a back-up dance crew that looked like The Wiz gone horribly wrong only distracted from the good stuff: Mariah. However, the costume changes were fun. Girlfriend went from ghetto princess to hooker-chic to red-carpet Soprano Barbie who dropped to her knees wearing a floor-length gown.

She can still hit those notes that only dogs can hear, but all the onstage craziness reeks of an insecure star. The girl has still got it — it’s all just so pointlessly flashy and excessive.

Carey reclaims title at NextStage
When you rack up as many hits as Mariah Carey did in the '90s, you don't need to tour. So, for the most part, the siren-voiced diva simply stayed home.

But in the wake of her 2001 cinematic bomb Glitter, Ms. Carey has decided to hit the road for a rare extended tour that brought her to NextStage in Grand Prairie on Tuesday night. And as awkward and corny as the show was at times, it also reaffirmed her status as one of pop's most powerful vocalists.

Ms. Carey's show recalled a low-budget version of the theatrical dance spectacles Janet Jackson has been putting on for the past 15 years. Her nine- person dance troupe spun and skipped around sets that looked like a circus or a giant living room, but instead of taking part in dance routines a la Janet (or Britney or Madonna), Ms. Carey stood still in her high heels and sang – far removed from the action. The effect was like watching an organist playing along to a silent movie.

When she did venture into the fray, the results weren't always pretty: Before one song, she slowly descended from the rafters seated in what looked like a large dishrag.

Even stranger were the moments when Ms. Carey sang along to MTV video clips of herself, or, in the case of her post-Glitter ballad "My Saving Grace," to a garish video montage of favorable press clippings. During other songs, she simply left the stage and let the videos or her backup singers do the work, buying her time for yet another costume change. (For those keeping track, there were eight costumes in all, each one a tad more sparkly and skin-centric than the last.)

Yet amid all the T&A theatrics, the saccharine love songs and the REO Speedwagon-like clichés about perseverance, the operatic beauty in her voice still shone through. True, Ms. Carey catapulted a dozen notes into the stratosphere when one or two would have done just fine. And her version of Def Leppard's "Bringin' on the Heartbreak" was pure bombast.

But she also turned in a simple, soulful version of the Jackson Five's "I'll Be There" and turned what could have been a chore – introducing her band – into a sublime jazz ballad. Ms. Carey might never own the stage the way Ms. Jackson or Madonna do, but then again, they'll never have a voice half as potent as hers.

Carey's star power may be fading, if show is any clue
- Last night at NextStage in Grand Prairie, pop singer Mariah Carey saw something she'd probably never dreamed of: empty seats.

Over the past three years, Carey, who throughout the '90s was one of the most popular singers on the planet, has seen her sales slide and her career take a major dip. In an effort to change that, Carey decided to tour to support her latest disc, Charmbracelet. It should be noted that Carey's sales used to be so strong, she simply did not tour often.

Her lack of touring experience was painfully evident last night. Her concert, which only drew 2,900 fans, was simply a mess, a capricious fusion of theater, music, missed notes and, most importantly, missed opportunities. The stage is the last place where struggling artists can regain popularity and integrity. If last night's show is indicative of her entire tour, she will fail at both.

The show was much like that of those of her younger pop-music contemporaries, such as Britney Spears and 'N Sync. There was a lot of visual candy -- costume and set, a video screen on which Carey's image blazed, singers and dancers, and a backup band that may or may have not been playing. There were times when it was obvious that the music was prerecorded.

That's really nothing new. What was so surprising was the spottiness of Carey's vocals. The woman with a five-octave range only seemed to be using two or three octaves. She especially struggled early on, during the ballads My All and Through the Rain. Her voice was so scratchy, some of the people in the audience looked at each other in befuddlement.

Carey also had an awkwardness about her that proved she has not spent much time on the road. Often looking down or lost or confused, she resembled a small child performing in his or her first school play. Other times, such as during the upbeat Honey, she looked fatigued and could not keep up with her dancers. It was times like these that you simply felt bad for her.

There were some nice moments, including Can't Take That Away, a new ballad. Under beautiful purple lights, she belted out the song precisely and compellingly. And for those few minutes, you caught a glimpse of Mariah Carey's talents. And then they were gone.

After the show we met in a section of the theater, then we were escorted to this really pretty room backstage. We waited and only the HBF members got to take a picture, the rest of the people didn't get to. I was in the second group that went in, and I was the first person to go in, and I saw Mariah just standing there, really tall and beautiful and just amazing. This was my second time meeting her, and it was still amazing.

I said "Hi Mariah!" and she said "Hey guys!" and then the photographer rushed us to get around her so he could take a picture. I was standing right beside her!!! He took 3 pictures, and while all this was happening, Mariah said "Where's the music? I remember when the had music playing at these things", and that was really cute. I was the first one to get an autograph, and I showed her a picture of her and me from last year and she was like "Oh how cool!" and then I said "Thank you Mariah, I love you!" and then the bodyguard with the cool accent escorted me out.

After everyone went through, (which seriously took less than 10 minutes) we all went outside and saw a small crowd gathered around a fence. The Meet and Greet was pretty short, but then I understood why, because she had to leave really soon. I wasn't disapointed in the meet and greet, because it was exactly what they said it would be; a group picture and one autograph. (Although it doesn't even compare to the Meet and Greets of last year!!!)

Then we saw her leave the building and get in the limo, and it drove by! Some crazy fans stuck their body into the window, and almost got ran over! Another chased the limo for like 5 minutes, and I thought that was pretty crazy. I think we all should have just stood back, and she would have rolled down the window and waved at us, and we could have taken pictures, but I understand how excited they would have been to see her. After that, we went back to our hotel and slept.

The concert was truly amazing and I will never forget it! (Shout out and THANKS!!! to Ken, Stephanie, Lee, Michelle, Tiffany, Eric, Alfred, Sissy, Amy, Heaven and Joe!!!) And I will never forget one moment during the concert, when Mariah walked over to the side of the stage where my seat was, and I was the only person waving, and she waved back. I will never forget that night!!!
