Yet Another Glitter Review
Benjamin sent me this article from Billboard Magazine:

* CAREY STILL HAS GLITTER *

FROM delivering Someday and Dreamlover, where her vocals soared high, Mariah Carey has turned breathless in Loverboy. Many listeners have not enjoyed this track. Quite a number have dismissed it as a trying-to-be-cute-and-sexy effort that has fallen flat on its face. However, from a recent listening party held by EMI Malaysia, the other songs on her latest album Glitter are nothing like Loverboy.

The album has 12 tracks ranging from ballads to urban-oriented party tunes. Lead The Way is a ballad which which will bring back memories of the "old" Carey. It sounds similar to I Don't Want To Cry. Walter Afanasieff, who wrote the former, has worked on her previous albums. A beautiful piano piece called Reflections shows her capabilities as composer and singer. This number is slower than Love Takes Time, one of her first No.1s. A cool track called Didn't Mean To Turn You On is a dance tune which has an '80s groove. Her voice is subtle but there are too many repetitions in it. It is a cover version of the '80s singer Cherelle's song, and it was also covered by Robert Palmer.

Another dance track is Last Night A DJ Saved My Life featuring Busta Rymes, Fabulous and DJ Clue. It's an '80s New York smash hit. Don't Stop (Funkin' 4 Jamaica) features Mystikal. It could be a future party anthem. It sounds like Dreamlover, one of her previous No. 1 hits. She wrote the former with DJ Clue, who was the co-producer of another No. 1 hit, Heartbreaker. Most of the tracks here were written by Carey. Producers Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis co-produced the album. They had worked on Janet Jackson's latest album, All For you. Carey has also collaborated with hip-hop artistes such as Busta Rhymes, Da Brat and Mystikal in Glitter. The remixed version of Loverboy features Da Brat.

Carey also stars in the movie called Glitter. It's about a girl who dreams of becoming a star and it comes true when she grows up.

"It took about three years to finish the concept and movie," she said. "I came up with the idea for Glitter because I grew up when there were movies such as Fame, flashdance, Grease and Purple Rain. These films incorporated music in a way that hadn't been done in a while so I got the idea and started to write songs immediately."

'Glitter' will be released on Sept 3.

HELP DEFEND MARIAH!!
Federica told me that Entertainment Weekly put up this page where visitors are insulting Mariah, saying how much she is a joke and that she's nothing in the music world anymore.

She has a link on her site, Mariah Crybaby, where you can submit good comments about Mariah

It's amusing that they have nothing better to do with their time isn't it? UGH!

Did Mariah Work With Walter?
Yesterday I posted some information from a fan saying that Walter Afanassieff helped co-write and co-produce Lead The Way. Today 2 fans told me that they think it's wrong. Does anyone else who bought the album know if this is true or not? Here is what they had to say about it:

Hello...
One of your posts asks about the song "Lead the Way" from the Glitter Soundtrack. Written a few years ago, this is a ballad Mariah has been saving specifically for use in the movie "Glitter". The rumor of a so called "bust-up" between theWalter Afanisieff and Mariah Carey has never been justified. The two artists have separated temporarily to find more credibility in the entertainment field. Basically to show that each can survive without the other. Just thought I'd drop this tic in your ear.

No, Mariah and Walter did not work again because on the "24/7" access show Mariah mentioned that she started to write songs for the movie a long time ago and one of those songs was "Lead the Way". She started to write these songs around the "Butterfly" time and that's the reason why Walter is a writer on the song. Mariah just brought it back for the movie. She stopped working with Walter partly due to the fact that Tommy wouldn't let her kind of as payback for their divorce.

Billboard News On Glitter
Donnie sent me this info:

Carey's 'Glitter' Sparkles In Japan

Mariah Carey's "Glitter" album has become a major hit in Japan, the first and only world market where it has been issued so far, Billboard Bulletin reports. It is the country's No. 3 title this week, according to the latest Oricon and Dempa charts, and the most popular release by a non-Japanese act. Sony Music Entertainment (Japan), which shipped "Glitter" Aug. 18, says sales to date are 450,000 units. The album has a bonus track for the local market, a third mix of the "Loverboy" single.

Carey left Sony Music earlier this year for a worldwide deal with Virgin Records, excluding Japan. The Recording Industry Association of Japan says the singer's "The Ones," which sold 3.6 million units in the territory, is one of the biggest-selling albums ever by a non-Japanese artist. Virgin is scheduled to release "Glitter" Sept. 11 in the U.S. The movie for which it serves as the soundtrack goes to theaters Sept. 21 in the U.S. and in mid-October in Japan.

As previously reported, release of the film and the album were bumped after Carey suffered an emotional breakdown last month. The artist has plans to sit for an interview with Barbara Walters that will air Sept. 12 on ABC's "20/20" at 10 p.m.

    Mariah Shooting New Video?
Devin, from Rap-Up Magazine, told me that according to the Los Angeles Daily News, Mariah will be filming a video for Don't Stop this Labor Day weekend with Mystikal. It also mentioned that she was looking for 18-30 year old "bouncer type males" for the video.

    Lambs Lullaby
Kristelle, from MariahFanClub.com, sent me a song they wrote for Mariah that goes along with the Looking In song. They will be singing it to Mariah when she comes to france and Kristelle told me that they will send me a soundfile of it shortly for Daily. Here are the lyrics...

We look at you and see the girl
Who lives inside the golden world
    But don't believe
That's all that our heart sees
    Get rid of your melancholy

You look at us and see the fans
Who scream your name, dazzle your eyes
    But don't believe
That's all there is to see
Then you will find your dignity

In our eyes you'll always find your soul
Forget this burden on your shoulders
Don't fear to lose yourself, fall asleep
    Your lambs watch over you

Release yourself from your own jail
It's time for us to give it back to you
    Turn our love into Stability
    Your light will shine eternally
    Your smile will be reality
Spread your wings and you'll be free

    Update From Montreal Lamb...
    Hi everyone,
My name is Peggy and I'm a great Mariah fan from Montreal! My name is Peggy and I'm a great Mariah fan from Montreal! I need the help of all Daily fans to help Mariah's Never Too Far play on the radio here! It's very simple. Mix 96, one of the stations that mostly plays Mariah's songs, has a test track every Saturday morning on their hit list and this week, the test track is Never Too Far! So I would ask everyone to vote for her on www.themix.com from now until Friday at midnight. It's easy! Once you get on the site, you click on Mix music and then, on Test Track. There, you can register your vote.

The results of this will determine if Never Too Far will be played on this station or not. If they play it, probably other stations will follow, but if not, it is possible that we just won't hear it in Quebec! That would be sad! So please, let's put or strengths together! She was in a precarious position until yesterday, but actually, she's doing better and better since this message has appeared on Daily! Yahoo! We, all the lambs, can turn it all around and make it a big win! I knew I could count on you! We're a powerful team! Let's keep on voting! Oh by the way, you cannot vote more than once at a time, but you can come back after a certain delay and it'll work! So you can vote many times a day!

Thanks for putting it on Daily and talk to you soon!

    Love,

    A lamb

    Carey's Doting Hero
They say when things go bad they go bad from all sides and directions. Ever since the sensational singer Mariah Carey checked herself into hospital suffering from an emotional breakdown, the rumours of her multimillionaire Latin singer boyfriend Luis Miguel deserting her were going strong. But recently, in an official statement Carey denied breaking up with Miguel. Her spokeswoman said Luis has been calling her frequently, as often as he can, he knows that its serious but not grave.

A lot of people dont understand that shes a human being and she gets sick like everyone. Miguel, a doting lover, is known to have presented Carey expensive gifts like a speedboat that cost him a fortune, he sends her a bunch of red roses every day, he also bought her the $1 million bracelet worn by Julia Roberts. Here are excerpts from an interview in which she talked of this handsome man on her arm Latin singing sensation Luis Miguel, 29, long before checking into the mental health care centre. With a miserable marriage to Sony Records honcho Tommy Mottola 20 years her senior behind her, the 29-year-old songbird has never been happier.

Here she opens her heart about her life and her love for Luis. I've never been happier. And the main reason is my boyfriend, Luis Miguel.I like to keep my romantic life private, but I will tell you he makes me very happy. Hes sensitive and so much fun to be with. I never get tired of spending time with him when I get the chance, that is, because my life is so busy. We met in Aspen during Christmas two years ago and just clicked.

Luis is a romantic. Hes full of surprises, hes always giving me little gifts. We have a lot in common. We both understand the pressures and the dedication it takes to make it work. I think because Luis has these same pressures, he understands me. We both love the sun, For Luis last birthday we went to St Barts to celebrate. Any excuse to get to the sun and the sea.

The most important thing is that he has a great sense of humour and when it comes to men, I like a man who really cares and understands me. Someone I can talk to about anything. Im overjoyed that my mom Patricia likes Luis almost as much as I do. My mothers decision is very important to me. When Luis met her he brought her flowers. Shes crazy about him and that makes me happy. Well, Mariah, heres wishing you a speedy recovery, take care! All Material Subject to Copyright

    Padma Talks About Miss Mariah
I got this info from pete:

    Hi!
This is Pete and I just bought the September 2001 issue of Stuff Magazine for men. In there, they interview one of Mariah's co-star in the moive "Glitter". Her name is Padma Lakshmi and she plays the "Glitter" version of Breanda K. Starr. In the movie, Mariah sings back-up for Padma, but Padma can't sing so, Mariah gets the gig. Here is a snippet of the interview:

She is also set to hit the big screen in Glitter, playing a vocally challenged lead singer who is upstaged by by an overachieving (and persumably buxom) backup performer portrayed by Mariah Carey. We chatted with Padma to find out what hot and spicy things are happening in her life. There, now we're all out of foodpuns, chop-chop!

Stuff: Hmmmmm. ducking the question, eh? Soon the masses will see you in Glitter with Mariah Carey.

Padma: It's a lot of fun. My character thinks she's great but she just can't sing. Mariah starts out as my backup. And there's this one part of the choreography where I have to slide down on my knees a la Prince.

Stuff: Hang out much with Mariah?

Padma: I did hang around her a little bit when we are in the makeup van and stuff like that. She was all right.

Stuff: Is she, in fact, a diva?

Padma: Yeah, ther certainly was a lot of entourage around her. But she was cool. She had a lot going on, as she probably always does. When you're on a movie set, it's like a circus that comes to town. It's not possible for everyone to sit around and chitchat. When you have downtime, you're usually in your trailor memorizing your lines.

Stuff:For the sake of argument, let's say that Mariah, Cher, Madonna, Britney, Christina, and Areatha Franklin, are pitted against eachother in a diva wrestling match. Who do you think would win?

Padma: I have no idea how to answer that. I would imagina Areatha Franklin, becuase she's got the most expirience."

Article About Mariah On BET's "Testimony"
I have an article for you - it appeared on a polish site www.interia.pl

Mariah Carey's TV confession A week after going to the hospital, by the end of July, the star made an interview for one of the cable tv's. The singer honestly talked about her bad marriage and admitted that her life wasn't easy.

Black Entertainment Television recorded artist's confidings, before Mariah was hospitalized coused by exhaustion and acording to some people as an result of unsuccessful suicide attempt. Whatever it was, the beautiful singer said that she felt better than ever, but some problems from her past still make her loose her cool. One of those things was her marriage to music producer Tommy Motolla. The author of hit "Butterfly" described their relationship as "very restrictive". Her housband forbad her going to clubs with her friends and becouse of him she couldn't get any knowledge about rules of showbiz. So she couldn't get used to the fame in an appropriate way. "Some days were happy, but other weren't" - admitted.

    Article About MC on MTV.com
Hello, Mariah is mentioned in this article taken from MTV.com about Jennifer Lopez and Ja Rule about "Im Real" Between trying to make a last-minute song addition to his October 2 release, Pain Is Love, before it goes through the mastering process this weekend and hitting the road to promote the album, you'd think Ja Rule wouldn't have time for any extracurricular activities. And you'd be right. During a Monday conversation in the Murder Inc. recording studios, a facility nicknamed "the crack house," Ja admitted his newfound prosperity as an R&B songwriter has him feeling the pressure.

"They're paying top dollar and they want their records now," the rapper said of all the singers who want him to pen tunes for them. "I'm avoiding phone calls and everything 'cause I'm trying to finish my own album. It's a crazy game. You gotta be a workhorse."

The Ja Rule-penned remix of the Jennifer Lopez hit "I'm Real" has helped J.Lo. rise steadily from # 90 spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart in early July to a top-10 position this week and next, according to a Wednesday (August 29) SoundScan report.

"She's mad cool. She goes in, knocks the sh-- out, no problem," said Ja of Lopez, with whom he'll perform "I'm Real" September 6 during the MTV Video Music Awards. "I love artists like that."

Although Lopez and Sony Music CEO Tommy Mottola are credited with first recognizing Ja's aptitude for writing R&B tunes, Mariah Carey was actually the first songstress to get a song from Ja.

The 25-year-old said he wrote a cut for Carey's upcoming Glitter and guests on the track with Nate Dogg.

"It was kinda crazy because I wrote the words with Mariah," he said. "For the J. Lo joint, they dropped off a CD and said, 'Do what you want.' That was weird because I hadn't written a whole R&B record before. They had faith in me.

"I'd been pumping it up that I could do it," he continued. "I'd done it before, just f---ing around, but never gave it to nobody. They gave me the chance, I did it and it turned out to be a hell of a record. Now we get so many calls and I got so much work to do."

One of Ja's top priorities is returning to the studio with Lopez. He's writing the lyrics for an "Ain't It Funny" remix.

"I'm about to f--- y'all up," he boasted. "We use the 'Flavor in Your Ear' beat, but it's remixed and vamped-up crazy. It's totally not J. Lo.

"It's J. Lo now because of 'I'm Real'," he said, correcting himself. "It's gonna put her in another zone. After this one, they gonna be expecting hot crossover R&B joints from J. Lo. They ain't gonna want the pop version of J. Lo no more, they gonna want the 'I'm Real' version."

In addition to Lopez and Carey, Ja looks forward to working on upcoming albums by Brandy, Macy Gray and Enrique Iglesias.

"I'm just now getting the feel for what each artist wants," he said. "I know the style Brandy wants, but with artists like Macy Gray or Enrique Iglesias, I gotta get their albums and listen to their sh--. I'm hip-hop; now I have to tap into their worlds."

    Walter Worked With Mariah Again?
This info comes from Aidan: I got my copy of glitter from www.cd-wow.com, they are selling them and shipping them already (although i don't think they are supposed to be!!)

Anyway if you haven't got a copy yet, did you know that Track 2 "Lead the Way" was co-written and produced by Walter Afanasieff!! I nearly keeled over, apart form being the best vocal song on the album, I think it is the strongest track overall and reminds me of early Mariah work (am a big fan of the early Ballads etc/work with afanasieff!).

I though that they vowed never to work together after a huge bust up when finishing off "Butterfly" in 1997? And we never heard beforehand they were working together!

Can you shed any light on this for me and the fans? Thanks again!

    Aidan :o)

WHO SAYS big girls can't do hipsters, those low-slung pants that are all the rage? Lane Bryant is the first plus-size retailer to feature the revealing style. The Chestnut Street and the Gallery stores got low-rise jeans three weeks ago to the delight of customers - some of whom, no doubt, were thinking they'd never get to wriggle into the sexy duds seen on such MTV vixens as Jennifer Lopez, Madonna and Mariah Carey.

The pants, available at Lane Bryant in sizes 14 through 28, retail for $39.50 and have boot-cut legs. They're usually paired with a tiny T-shirt or camisole that exposes a bit of belly "They're flying out of the stores," says Catherine Lippincott, a Lane Bryant spokeswoman. "Just because you're a size 16 doesn't mean that you don't have a flat stomach." But Carolyn Strauss, a New York City-based plus-size model, warns that larger women might "have to get used to wearing them cause it feels weird not to have something around your waist. "What's more, Strauss advises, "If you carry all your weight in your upper stomach, they tend to be not that flattering. Otherwise they're great."

A stiletto made for walking? Hard to believe, but that's exactly what Hollywould Boots has done with its line of sexy but comfortable footwear. Scarlett boutique, 104 S. 13th St., just got Hollywould's 4-inch-heel glitter ankle boots, which have more sparkle than a Tiffany window display. And despite a wickedly pointy toe and heel, they're comfortable. Fitting for a manufacturer whose motto is, "It's hard to look sexy when your feet hurt." Though Hollywould doesn't seen to mind hitting you in the wallet: The boots retail for $295.

Posse cuts' grow as stars pair up for wider audience
NEW YORK — Pairing different music stars for a hit song is a tradition: Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder, The Supremes and the Temptations, Willie Nelson and Julio Iglesias. But what used to be a special occasion has become an everyday occurrence. Now it's not uncommon to find four, five or even 10 guest artists on one album.

"When you listen to the radio, it seems like everyone is making what we call 'posse cuts,'" said Emil Wilbekin, editor-in-chief at Vibe magazine. "And on posse cuts, it's not just about one artist, it's about several artists."

Mariah Carey's upcoming disc, "Glitter," features numerous guests — even her current hit, "Loverboy," a sample of an old Cameo tune, features Ludacris, Da Brat, Cameo's own Larry Blackmon and others.

"What people are finding is that you get more bang for your buck when you not only have one successful artist, but three successful artists working on one track," said Wilbekin.

    MARIAH HAS REGRETS
Mariah pitiless and selfish? That's what her sister Alison thought awhile ago, but now she changed her mind. Alison used to be a prostitute and infected with the AIDS virus. When she begged her rich sister for help, it was the the last thing Mariah thought about.

"I am not God, so I can't help you", was her hard reaction. But it seems that Mariah has regrets of that, because she changed completely. She supports her sister, pays all the medication and she even bought her a house. Maybe you are God after all, Mariah?

SORVINO DENIES DUEL OF THE DIVAS
Mira Sorvino says she did not, never, no way, get involved in any catfight with Mariah Carey.

This rumour, which started in a supermarket tabloid, has been floating around ever since the two women worked together on a movie called Wise Girls, about waitresses in a mob-owned restaurant. There has even been some speculation that this alleged incident contributed to Carey's recent nervous breakdown, or whatever it was.

Anyway, Sorvino has now spoken up, and clearly: Reports of a brawl are "ridiculous. ... We had one verbal argument one day. There was no physicality whatsoever," Sorvino said. "If you can really imagine me rolling on the ground, tearing hair out, as the National Enquirer said, then I don't know what to say. But I can assure you that that never happened, and we made up the next day, and we're on very good terms."

The movie is to be released sometime next year.

    CapitalFm Takeover in the uk
    Mariah Carey Answers Your Emails

Mariah Carey got to grips with some of your email questions during her Capital Takeover. To listen to her answers, click here.

Steve in West Hampstead: Who are your musical heroes?

Mariah: I have so many, but I'd like to single one out right now. His name is Stevie Wonder, and he is to me the ultimate musician because he plays everything, he sings like an angel and he writes the most amazing songs that have moved me beyond belief. I've met him and he's given me some amazing advice.

Philippa in Ealing: There were lots of rumours about Janet Jackson being angry about your new record deal. Was that true?

Mariah: I don't know, but all I would say to you is I don't think so, because Janet Jackson is an icon. She doesn't have to worry about anybody, she's always going to be doing her thing. I don't feel that we're similar, I don't have any jealousy or negative feelings towards her, and I also love the record 'Control'. That record was hot and it reminds me of going to the beach with my friends as a kid.

Melissa in Chertsey: Do you enjoy acting as much as singing?

Mariah: I've always acted, even as a little girl doing impersonations of friends or friends' parents or even family members. That was another form of escapism for me - singing saved my life and doing characters is another outlet for me. So in answer to your question, yes I do!

Steven in Tuffnel Park: After 'Glitter' are you going to do any more films?

Mariah: Actually, I just did another film called 'Wise Girls' that's a little bit edgy and a bit controversial, but I had a great time making it.

Fraier in Depford: You've sung about dream lovers and fantasies, are you a loved up person?

Mariah: I don't really know what the definition of that is, but I think I'm a very loving person, and I think that's one of the most important things to do in life, even to all haters!

    Mariah Carey's Capital Takeover
Thanx MUCH to Ashes for this transcript of what happened when Mariah "took over" Capital FM in the UK.

Chart diva extrodinaire and budding movie star, Mariah Carey, popped into the studio to treat us to some of her favourite tracks, fill us in on her new movie 'Glitter', and answer some of your emails.

    Mariah says hello.

I'm going to kick off with one of my classic songs. It's from 1995, the remix of 'Fantasy' featuring ODB from Woo Tan Clan.

Mariah Carey - 'Fantasy' (ODB remix)

What I'm going to do is talk about my new album and my new movie 'Glitter', and I'll also be answering some of the questions that you guys emailed in. But right now here's one of my favourite songs, Jay-Z 'Hard Knock Life'.

    Jay-Z - 'Hard Knock Life'

Right, now we're going to go into one of my favouite songs of the moment, which is the 'Superwoman' remix by Lil' Mo featuring Fabulous, who you can also hear on my record 'Last Night A DJ Saved My Life'.

    Li'l Mo - 'Superwoman'

We're now going to listen to another one of my favouite tracks by Mystikal. I like to listen to this record at the clubs because when it comes on I stand up on the booth and I proceed to do what Mystikal says, which is the title of the song, 'Shake It Fast'!

    Mystikal - 'Shake It Fast'

I've taken over the place and we're having a good time up here! Now we're going to go into Janet Jackson 'Control'.

    Janet Jackson - 'Control'

That was Janet with 'Control', one of my favourites. Now, I thought I'd tell you a little bit about my new movie 'Glitter'. The character I play is called Billie. She grows up in a foster home having been taken away from her addict mother, but her mother does tell her she's going to come back and get her. So Billie's whole struggle is basically coming to terms with the fact that her mum does not come back for her.

Yes, it's a love story, yes there is humour, yes it's about friendship. It's about a lot of things that I think all of us can relate to. But it is not my life story, because my mum and I are like two little girls together!

My new album is also called 'Glitter' and I think they work really well together. You can watch the movie and really feel what's going on when you hear those ballads. And the up-tempos are basically party records that I wanted to make - 1982 meets 2001.

So here's one of my favouite tracks from it, 'Last Night A DJ Saved My Life'. It was one of my favourite songs as a little kid, so here it is.

Mariah Carey - 'Last Night A DJ Saved My Life'

Here's another on of my favourites. This song is called 'Ante Up' , it's the remix by MOP, Buster Rimes and Remy Martin. Now this song, for some reason, releases a lot of energy for me. You might like it, check it out, they can't even play this in the clubs in New York without causing a ruckus!

MOP featuring Busta Rhymes - 'Ante Up'

I've had a really good time, but before I go I'm going to play you my new single 'Loverboy' from my new soundtrack and movie 'Glitter'.

    Mariah Carey - 'Loverboy'

    MARIAH BACK IN FULL FORCE
Pop diva Mariah Carey is back in full force. The singer was recently released from Northern Westchester Hospital, after staying at the facility for several weeks. She was diagnosed as suffering a nervous breakdown. Fans have received several messages posted by Mariah herself on her official website announcing that she is much better and looking forward to promoting her upcoming "Glitter" movie and soundtrack album.

While she had to cancel her appearances at MTV's "Live And Almost Legal" special and the 2001 Teen Choice Awards, Mariah has landed guest stints on ABC's "20/20" - where she will speak intimately of her breakdown with renowned journalist, Barbra Walters - and an appearance on the September 14th edition of The Tonight Show, with Jay Leno.

Meanwhile, the "Glitter" press junction and movie premiere have been rescheduled. It's also rumored that Carey will perform a new track from her "Glitter" LP in dedicated of R&B singer, Aaliyah, who tragically died in a plane crash Saturday evening, during MTV's Annual Music Video Awards. Aaliyah was scheduled to make a surprise performance at the event. "Glitter" - the album is released nationwide on September 11, and the movie release proceeds the following week.

PEEK OF MARIAH'S "NEVER TOO FAR"
The follow-up to the smash hit 'Loverboy' is a blinding ballad in pure Mariah Carey style called 'Never Too Far' and the video, taken from the film Glitter, is now available for your viewing pleasure on The Raft's very own Sneaky Peek.

A far cry from the sauciness and straight-up raunch of her 'Loverboy' video, 'Never Too Far' sees Mariah in classic 'tear the house down' vocal mode, looking sophisticated and sultry in a floor length evening dress with her hair in a new slicker style.

All in all, it's a timely reminder that even if Mariah has made a bit of a name for herself as a funkstress, she can still - as the best-selling female singer of the 90s - wipe the floor with the competition when it comes to sheer voice power.

    Montreal Fan Needs Your Help...
    Hi friend,

Actually, she's not in a good position, but I'm sure that we, all the lambs, can turn it all around! I count on you!

Thanks for putting it on Daily and talk to you soon!

    Peggy

It has been revealed that all of Europe will get a new double A-side single which will include both "Never Too Far" and "Don't Stop" (Feat. Mystikal). The double A-side single was first presumed only to be relased in the UK. Two versions of the new single will be released in Europe on September 24 and the catalognumbers for those are VIR 8979860 (CD1) og VIR 8979862 (CD2). It is not yet known whether or not other territories will get a double A-side as well or even if the single will be released to retail in the US. In Japan, where Mariah is still signed to Sony, the next single will be "Reflections (Care Enough)".

Thanks to Ashes (rainbowprincess) and Stephanie (mariahsweb.com) for this article

    Japan: Carey on!
DEAR BOSS: STOP PRESS! Mariah Carey has been much in the news, as you well know. People like to jump on celebs when their problems make national headlines. But the Japanese love this girl. Sony Japan says her album "Glitter" is No. 1 in its first week. (This is Mariah's fifth album to score first on this chart, which is more than any other international female singer has ever done. It rivals Simon & Garfunkel's record set in 1972.) Mariah says "Aishitemasu" to her Japanese fans. I'm sure, Boss, you know what that means, but I'll tell you anyway. It means "I love you."

    Article from Greece
Elliot translated a recent article on Mariah from a Greek magazine called Music Life. It was very nice of Elliot to do this for us and here it is...

With a new movie, a new soundtrack-album and a brand new interview, Carey proves that "all that glitters" isn't gold, unless it's first name is "Mariah!"

The last few days, she has no time to waste, let alone, to sleep! Wearing the usual suspect clothes(tight tops, tighter jeans) she wanders from New York to Tokyo "pongering" on her eternally high heels among interviews, photo shootings and promo appearences - her first single "Loverboy" hit stores July 25th, the album "Glitter" comes out August 26th and the movie premiers in theaters August 30th.

Either way, it's no secret that Mariah doesn't sleep a lot. Others, trying to sleep, count sheep! She'd rather count success; 130 million records sold, 15 #1's, 60 weeks on top and all that within a single decade! Always embattled (although slepless), she's now ready to break her records once more and it's probably hard for anyone to stop her!

-How "glittering" is your new album "Glitter"?
I'd like to believe that it's one of my best pieces of work! The uptempo tracks are agressive, dynamic and they drift around the 80's spirit. What's more, a team of fine guests make the result more up-to-date. As for my best asset, the ballads, they are hot, intimate, the kind of songs theat could stand on every album of mine!

    - Rumour has it that your new label Virgin Records purchased the rights to your new material without even listening to a single note of it. Is this true?
Yes! Virgin gave me 23 million dollars for this album without having the slightest idea for it's content.

    - Weren't they worried at all about the result?
    Wouldn't you be?

    - Apparently you weren't worried! Why did you choose the 80's?
Virgin asked me the same thing. I find the 80's very nostalgic and they gave me a lot of material for inspiration. Some people at Virgin, of course, had their objections on the album's appeal to the people! They deemed it was to early for something like that and the people wouln't be ready for "a return to the roots". But I told them "believe me, they are". The movie itself-don't forget the album is a a soundtrack-is chronologically placed in 1982 and it's a modern version of Cinderella!

    - Just like your life! So, the movie theme is autobiographical?
First of all, I don't consider myself to be Cinderella! I simply believe that until i was 12 I had seen what most people have not all thei lives. As for the movie, the leading lady has something in common with me: otherwise, how was I supposed to play her convincingly? But in no way this movie is autobiographical. It's an idea I had put in process for the last 4 years and all that time I tried to persuade the producers that we could do something really hot! Finally, Kate Larnier, the script writer, managed to give flesh and bones to what I would call the dream of a lifetime!

    - What's the story, more or less?
As I told you, it's in the early 80's, in the club scene of that time. I play a singer, Billie, who's half-breed, from a white father and a black mother. Billie grows up in a foster home, because her mother abandonned her. Later on she meets a DJ and becomes a star in just one night! The point is, that all this time she waits for her mother to return. As you can see, this is far away from my reality, because I couldn't have a closest relationship with my own mother! When she's not with me, she calls like every 5 minutes!

    - Don't you mean though, that in this movie the terms are reversed and and your cinema mother takes the place of your real father, who also abandonned you when you were little?
That's the point exactly, the roles are reversed! The movie story is my opposite reality. In this movie, my father is white and my mother's black! In my reality it's clearly the opposite! And this happens cause, while in the movie I seek my disappeared mother, in real life my mother was present in every moment.

    - Today, do you get in touch with your father?
Lately, I try to have a good relationship. Of course, he doesn't know much about me. Imagine that; he thinks I have only released one album! With my mother we use to call it "The Album" (hysteric laughters)!

    - But is it possible that he doesn't know about you?
Doesn't he read the papers. listen to the radio? I swear, he doesn't know anything about me! He has nothing to do with music! He really thinks that I have only one album (even more hysteric laughters)!

-(What can I say?) He might be a cinema-lover, though, and get to know you as an actress! In the newest movie you prepare, do you play the singer again?
No, not at all! The movie is entitled "Wise Girls" as to "Wise Guys", if you understand what I mean! It takes place in Staten Islands and the ladies in it do things we don't talk in New York about. The role I play is a girl that has nothing to do with me! It's that kind of woman who can tell you "I have no mood to hear your crap!" I co-star with Mira Sorvino and Melora Walters I go to Halifax for the shootings! This movie is a challenge for me!

    - Let's return to the album, don't you believe it's much different to what we could expect from Mariah Carey?
You mean it's an album that I wouln't make? In a sense it's an album that Billie would make! I tried to borrow elements from the 80's, to see the music from Billie's side. The same for the lyrics. There's a song in the album that I call "Care Enough", but all the others call "Reflection" because that's the first line. It's a kind of a question to Billie's mother like "don't you care enough for me?" and the whole movie evolves around that! It has lyrics like "I'm not good enough, I don't deserve a mother's love" And, certainly, that's not true because my mother adores me.Therefore, the songs were written from Billie's side. Nevertheless, there are still some more songs with a beat, where the DJ calls on me, and also the ballads with the more "Carey-like" elements, the interludes, the whispers! The truth is I have to try enough to talk my fans into accepting this side of me, but I'm not worried cause i Trust them!

    - Which was the greatest difficulty you confronted while playing Billie?
I think you'll laugh, but it's that thing I do with my hand. You know, that I make my hand "flutter" when I sing? Everyone mocks me for this and they think it's a trick I do on stage! In reality, it's a tic. I do it all the time! Even when I record in the studio! It comes out impulsively with the music. So, my greatest difficulty was not to do it while I was singing as Billie in the movie. That was the greatest challenge!

    - Do you want to talk a little about the rumours about your personal life?
Why not? After all they write a lot about me, but don't you think I care. Many people think that what sells is a scandal. I believe, in my case, my songs sell! You see, i don't need a scandal to cover my vocal flaws, like others do!

    - A rumour has it that you were a virgin until you became 23. Is that true?
Scandalous, eh? But it's just not a rumour, it's true and I have said that myself! Even though I had some relationships at school, I had never come to the point of making love! I was just not interested in it. The first man I've ever known in that sense was Tommy Mottola in 1993, right after our marriage. hrough my whole life i can't count more than a handful of men I had a love affair with. I despise the idea of sleeping with someone I wouldn't like to be with the next day.

    - Apparently something that doesn't apply to Luis Miguel's case.
Luis is wonderful. He understands me completely, because he's just like me. He's a latin superstar! Just imagine that we tried to have a romantic weekend in Marbella and his fans didn't stop harassing him. He has a huge fan club. Of course I have fans in Spain, too! What I mean to say is our lives are almost parallel and none of both needs the other's spotlight to survive. We are together cause we have a good time!

I just wanted to call in and say, I love you, and thank you so much for everything, and for just (sigh) giving me the strength to like deal with any nonsence because, life is too short to dwell on any negativity, and I just want you to know that, I appreciate you so much, and I say it all the time, but, I really mean it, and I'm blessed to have everything I have, and we all are, and I just wanna send out love to everybody and tell you how grateful I am, just to be where I am, and to have you, and thank you for getting me through everything. Luv ya much, bye.

Sunday, August 26th, 12:33 AM ET.
Hey. Like I said in my earlier message, life is really really precious, and I just wanna send out, my deepest sympathy and love to Aaliyah, and her family, and uhm, that's the most important thing. Life, and appreciating it. Buh bye.

Note from Danielle... I am truly heartbroken over Aaliyah's death, and my prayers are with her fans. She will be dearly missed. She was truly One In A Million :(

    JAPAN: CAREY ON!
    DEAR BOSS: STOP PRESS!
Mariah Carey has been much in the news, as you well know. People like to jump on a celeb, when their problems make national headlines.

Thanx to Andrew for this information

    Regina Takes A Vacation
Okay moments ago I announced Daily was closed but so many people made me feel bad about it, I decided I'll just take a long vacation from the site and let some other people run it while I am gone, including Nacho and Danielle. There is a chance I might not even be coming back but I am thinking of updating maybe 3-4 times a week, after I take a vacation from the site.

There is no doubt I will always be one of Mariah's #1 fans and I will always purchase everything she releases. I just need to work more to pay for college bills, therefor, no time is left for this site. I am sitting here crying as I type this but sometimes you just have to move on and do what's best for you. I appreciate all of you sending me news and helping me out with Daily and I am sure Danielle and Nacho will do a great job!! I might be back though because this website means so much to me and has been a large part of my life. Maybe, I just need a long vacation to deal with my problems.

    Love,
    Regina

    Billboard about Mariah on 20/20
    Mariah Plans Television Interview

Mariah Carey will sit for her first interview since suffering an emotional breakdown with ABC News' Barbara Walters. The interview is scheduled to air Sept. 12 on "20/20" at 10 p.m. ET. Carey was last interviewed by Walters after her divorce from Sony Music chief Tommy Mottola in November 1998.

The 31-year-old pop singer was treated at a Connecticut clinic earlier this month and has been with her mother, under a doctor's care, since her release. Carey said she was exhausted after working on two movies -- "Glitter" and "Wise Girls" -- as well as the Virgin soundtrack for "Glitter."

The album and the movie were each bumped back a few weeks following Carey's breakdown. The "Glitter" album is now due out Sept. 11; the Twentieth Century Fox film, which features Carey in her first starring role, will now open Sept. 21 in U.S. theaters.

Carey recently posted an audio message on her official Web site for her fans: "Hey guys, I'm just checking in, letting you know that I love you. I'm reading the letters you wrote me, and you always make me smile, no matter what. I'll call you soon, bye."

Meanwhile, Mira Sorvino, Carey's "Wise Girls" co-star, says recent tabloid reports that the two actresses brawled on the set of the film are "ridiculous."

"We had one verbal argument one day, there was no physicality whatsoever," Sorvino said last week. "If you can really imagine me rolling on the ground, tearing hair out, as the [National] Enquirer said, then I don't know what to say, but I can assure you that that never happened, and we made up the next day and we're on very good terms."

The 33-year-old actress said it is upsetting to have such rumors spread about her. "My mother called me and said, 'What's this? You were on the ground with Mariah Carey?' and I was like, 'No, Mom, how could you of all people believe that?,'" Sorvino said. "I've had people from around the world who read this and that's the first thing they ask me."

"Wise Girls," which chronicles the lives of three waitresses at a restaurant run by the mob, is scheduled for release next year.

Recovering singer Mariah Carey has posted a message on her official website to reassure her fans she's feeling better.

Late last month, Mariah checked into a Connecticut hospital following an "emotional and physical breakdown."

After she was released two weeks ago, she recovered at her mother's home before venturing out.

On www.mcarey.com she says, "Okay, this is a message for my fans.

"And I just want to say thank you sooo much for all the letters, and everything that I got from you. I want you to know you definitely can't believe everything you read.

"And, um, thank you, because I am taking care of myself, and as we speak -- or as I speak to you -- I'm looking at the most beautiful rainbow that is going across the entire sky, and I love you much! Thanks. Bye."

The singer is looking forward to starting her promotional work for new album "Glitter," which will be released in America next month.

    News Summary From EW.com

I'LL BE THERE Mariah Carey's reemergence into public life continues with yesterday's announcement that she'll give her first post-breakdown interview to Barbara Walters. The interview will air on ABC's ''20/20'' on September 12, a day after Carey's ''Glitter'' CD is released. It may also mark the first time Walters tries not to drive a celebrity to tears.

Mariah Carey to Speak to Walters
    August 23, 2001
    by Stephen M. Silverman

Barbara Walters has snagged Mariah Carey for the singer's first interview since her two-week hospital stay for a physical and emotional breakdown, a spokesman for ABC has announced. The interview for the "20/20" news program, which will be pre-taped, is scheduled to air on Sept. 12. The network representative said that the pop diva, 31, whose new album "Glitter" is due to hit stores the day before the interview airs (Carey's movie, "Glitter," will be released on Sept. 21), will "obviously discuss the reasons behind her hospitalization," among other topics. Carey has been slowly inching her way back into the public eye. Earlier this week it was reported that she briefly visited 150 disadvantaged New York City kids at her Camp Mariah. Meanwhile, Variety columnist Army Archerd on Thursday had some less-than-flattering quotes about Carey's behavior on the set of her second movie, "Wise Girls." The film's producer, Jack Sojka, told Archerd that there were several times when Carey showed up late for work -- once without giving any notice. "When she arrived on the set three hours late," said Sojka, "she claimed she had hives and had to go to the doctor. Behind her back the company called her 'the bitch' and 'the diva.' The crew didn't mind the delays: They got overtime because of her."

Mariah Carey Comes Out Of Seclusion Following Breakdown
Singer visits Camp Mariah, leaves audio message for fans on Web site; album, movie due in September.

Nearly a month after beginning treatment for a physical and emotional breakdown, Mariah Carey is taking tentative steps out of seclusion. Last week, Carey paid a quiet visit to Fishkill, New York's Camp Mariah, where she spoke to young summer campers and signed autographs, according to the Fresh Air Fund, which runs the camp with financial help from Carey. On Monday, Carey posted an audio message to fans on her official Web site (www.mariahcarey.com) for the first time since her breakdown.

"I just want to say thank you so much for all the letters, and everything that I got from you," she said. "I want you to know you definitely can't believe everything you read." Carey said that she was "taking care" of herself, and that as she spoke, she was "looking at the most beautiful rainbow that is going across the entire sky." "I love you much," she told fans.

Carey's publicist did not return calls for comment on her client's status. Carey's new album, Glitter, is due September 11, with its accompanying movie scheduled to open 10 days later. A video for "Never Too Far," the second single from Glitter — assembled from movie footage without Carey's participation — is garnering airplay (see "Mariah Carey Hasn't Shot New Video, But One's Coming Anyway"). Just before her breakdown, which left her hospitalized for two weeks, Carey used her Web site to post two distraught audio messages. "What I'd like to do is just take a little break, or at least get one night's sleep without someone popping up about a video," she said at the time.

    Mariah back in spotlight
    By Erika Gimenes, Hollywood.com Staff

HOLLYWOOD, August 23, 2001 -- Pop singer Mariah Carey will grant her first post-breakdown interview to Barbara Walters for ABC's 20/20 news program, a spokesman for the network told Reuters on Wednesday.

Fans curious to know why the singer was hospitalized may find the answer during the interview, airing Sept. 12. The network's publicist said that Carey will "obviously discuss the reasons behind her hospitalization."

Ever since the singer checked herself out of a Connecticut clinic on Aug. 8, she has kept a low profile and has communicated to her fans only via her official Web site. An undisclosed source told PageSix.com on Thursday that Carey had been in Puerto Rico, "staying at the El Conquistador Hotel and having a good time with her friends." But Carey's rep, Cindi Berger, denies the rumor.

"She is not staying at that hotel and she is not partying," Berger said. Carey recently completed work on two movies, Glitter and Wise Girls and wrote, recorded and produced her newest album, the soundtrack to Glitter, due in stores Sept. 11.

Mira Sorvino has denied reports that she was involved in a physical fight with Carey on the set of Wise Girls. "We had one verbal argument, there was no physicality whatsoever," Sorvino told The Associated Press last week. "If you can really imagine me rolling around on the ground, tearing hair out, as the [National] Enquirer said, then I don't know what to say, but I can assure you that that never happened, and we made up the next day and we're on very good terms."

Glitter is scheduled to debut Sept. 21. Wise Girls hits the big screen next year.

Mira Sorvino refutes reports of fight with Mariah Carey
NEW YORK (AP) -- Mira Sorvino and Mariah Carey did not -- repeat, not -- get into a knock-down, drag-out fight on the set of their upcoming movie, "Wise Girls." Sorvino said recent tabloid reports that she and her co-star brawled are "ridiculous." "We had one verbal argument one day, there was no physicality whatsoever," Sorvino said last week. "If can you really imagine me rolling on the ground, tearing hair out, as the (National) Enquirer said, then I don't know what to say, but I can assure you that that never happened, and we made up the next day and we're on very good terms."

The 33-year-old actress said it upsets her to have such rumors spread about her. "My mother called me and said, 'What's this? You were on the ground with Mariah Carey?' and I was like, 'No, Mom, how could you of all people believe that?"' Sorvino said. "I've had people from around the world who read this and that's the first thing they ask me."

"Wise Girls," about three waitresses at a restaurant run by the mob, is scheduled for release next year. (More on: Mira Sorvino & Mariah Carey).

    Mariah to give TV interview
Mariah Carey is to give her first interview since suffering a nervous breakdown. She'll talk to top American broadcaster Barbara Walters about the reasons for her recent hospitalisation in an ABC-TV interview on 12 September.

Meanwhile in an audio message on her official Web site, www.mariahcarey.com, Mariah, who admitted herself to a New York state clinic on 25 July suffering 'mental and physical exhaustion', has told her fans she is recovering from her recent hospitalisation and doing well.

The message says: 'I just want to say thank you so much for all the letters, everything that I got from you,' she says. 'I want you to know that you can't believe everything you read. I am taking care of myself and as I speak to you I am looking at the most beautiful rainbow that's going across the entire sky, and I love you much.'

Mariah's illness hasn't come as a total surprise to the producer of the mob comedy Wise Girls, which she'd just wrapped prior to her breakdown. Today's Daily Variety carries an interview with Jack Sojka, producer of the Lion's Gate movie, in which Mariah co-stars with Oscar-winning actress Mira Sorvino. Sojka tells Variety that on the set of the movie in Halifax, Canada, Mariah was sometimes late and on other occasions wouldn't be there because she was busy in Los Angeles or New York promoting her other movie, Glitter.

He said: 'When she arrived on the set three hours late she claimed she had hives and had to go to the doctor. Behind her back the company called her `the bitch' and `the diva'. The crew didn't mind the delays - they got overtime because of it.' He added, 'I think this movie got her in touch with who she really was and the movie made a psychological release for her. The role is Mariah - who she really was before she became `Mariah Carey.'

Mariah's other movie Glitter released in the US on 21 September and the album soundtrack is due 10 days earlier. Recently Mariah made her first public appearance since leaving the clinic.

Carey to discuss breakdown with Walters
LOS ANGELES - Pop diva Mariah Carey will sit down with ABC's Barbara Walters on 20/20 in her first public interview since being hospitalized in July after suffering a nervous breakdown.

Reuters reports Carey, who suffered what her publicists said was an "emotional and physical breakdown", will tape an interview with Walters that is scheduled to air on Sept. 12. A publicist for Carey said the Grammy-winning pop singer will openly discuss "the reasons behind her hospitalization" and the release of her new album, "Glitter", scheduled to hit store shelves the day before the 20/20 interview airs.

The release of her album, and the movie by the same name, were delayed after the 31-year old singer entered a clinic for treatment back in July. The movie features Carey in her first starring role playing an aspiring young singer.

    Walters to Grill Mariah
Barbara Walters may have been aced out of an interview with Gary Condit, but she has a consolation prize: Mariah Carey. The ABC News veteran has landed the first post-breakdown interview with the pop diva, Reuters reports. The chat will air on ABC's 20/20 in its new Wednesday slot Sept. 12 at 10 p.m. ET.

Carey was hospitalized July 25 after suffering an emotional and physical breakdown. She was released Aug. 8. The interview with Walters will coincide with the release of Carey's new album, Glitter, on Sept. 11.

The CD is based on the soundtrack of the upcoming film of the same name, in which Carey stars as a singer looking for fame. The movie's release was postponed from Aug. 31 to Sept. 21 after she became ill.

Mariah Carey Grants First Post-Illness Interview
Pop Star Expected to Discuss Recent Hospitalization on 20/20

Aug. 23 — Mariah Carey is granting ABC's Barbara Walters her first interview since entering a rehabilitation center for an emotional and physical breakdown.

The taped interview will air on 20/20 Sept. 12, a day after her soundtrack album to the upcoming movie Glitter arrives in stores. A publicist for the news program says Carey will "obviously discuss the reasons behind her hospitalization" during the interview.

    Singer Is Open About Struggles
The decision to tape the interview is the latest in Carey's efforts to be open about her health. In the days leading up to her hospitalization she posted messages on her Web site commenting on her mood and saying she would be gone for a little while. She then spent two weeks in a hospital following what's been described by her publists as a physical and emotional breakdown.

She returned to the site this week, posting an audio clip thanking fans for their support and saying she is "taking care of herself." Her new message tells fans not to "believe everything [they] read" about her collapse, referring, no doubt, to rumors that she had tried to kill herself. The singer reportedly had cuts on her body when she entered the hospital. In the message on www.mariahcarey.com, the songstress says, "I just want to say thank you so much for all the letters and everything … as I speak to you, I'm looking at the most beautiful rainbow that is going across the entire sky, and I love you much! Thanks. Bye." The 31-year-old performer seemed to take the appearance of the rainbow as a good omen; her 1999 album was called Rainbow.

    Resuming Public Appearances
Carey was also feeling good enough to pay a brief surprise visit last week to her namesake camp for disadvantaged children in Fishkill, N.Y. According to USA Today, Carey spent two hours at the camp signing autographs for the campers, who each received a portable CD player and her latest single, "Loverboy." "It was very festive," said Jenny Morgenthau, executive director of the Fresh Air Fund, which oversees five camps, including Camp Mariah. "It's great that somebody that famous would come and sit and talk to them."

Meanwhile, a video for Carey's new single "Never Too Far" was assembled from existing footage from her upcoming film Glitter, a Virgin representative told People magazine. The release dates of both the movie and its soundtrack were bumped from August to September following Carey's breakdown.

Also, please do not send your e-mail to both accounts because then we will both report the same information and that will cause a problem!! Thank you...

"Wise Girls" brings out pre-fame Mariah
HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - In addition to a delay (Aug. 31 to Sept. 21) on the opening of Mariah Carey's 20th Fox starrer "Glitter," her second pic "Wise Girls," from Lions Gate got a new ending -- in order to get its completed financing, reports producer Jack Sojka.

He had worked on this project for three years and achieved the casting of Carey, Oscar winner Mira Sorvino and Melora Walters (thanks to the efforts of William Morris' Nicole David).

The trio play waitresses in an Mafia-owned eatery where drugs were an unlisted menu item -- and the three were rubbed out in the original finale. But, as Sojka told me, Lions Gate nixed that ending. The role may have mimicked Mariah's own, pre-celeb life, notes the producer. (Whereas in "Glitter," she's a star -- in a star-crossed love affair.)

I asked Sojka if there were any indications during his pic's filming that Mariah was headed for the "emotional and physical breakdown" that had her seek medical attention this month. He said, "When we were filming in Halifax, she'd often have to fly to N.Y. or L.A. for 'Glitter,' both the film and the album of the same name. And she had to fly to Cannes to promote it. We often had to do our show around her."

He said there were several times when she was late for her work call, once without giving any notice. "When she arrived on the set three hours late, she claimed she had hives and had to go to the doctor. Behind her back the company called her 'the bitch' and 'the diva.' The crew didn't mind the delays: They got overtime because of her."

He said Sorvino had meticulously researched the roles before the film started and on her computer noted each scene's motivations. Sorvino had also taped Mariah's guestint on Rosie O'Donnell on which both women reverted to their conversational, tough New Yorkese.

Before they started to film, Sorvino played it for the company; director David Anspaugh exclaimed to Mariah, "That's it -- play it just like that!" "I can do that," she said. And, said Sojka, "She did it perfectly; her acting fit the part." At the beginning, he says, "the two of them clicked. It was only when her discipline failed -- when she became late -- that the climate changed."

He thinks the role brought out Mariah's inner self pre-fame and he speculated, "Her breakdown might have been caused by her crossing point. I think this movie got her in touch with who she really was and the movie made a psychological release for her. The role is Mariah -- who she really was before she became 'Mariah Carey."'

Would he hire her again? "Yes, now that she's had the courage to seek the help." And the rest. Sojka may have the occasion to seek Mariah for another film: His Champion Entertainment is readying six films -- one is "Jimmy the Elf," a Christmas story written by "Wise Girls" author John Meadows; also Williams Bekkala's "Tourniquet," a thriller in which the president is killed

Alan told me that the MTV Listening Party is up today, as reported but it is only the 1:30 minute clips. VH1 and MTV both have the jukebox up but their logo's are on each one. Check out MTV's by clicking here.

    Mariah The Corporation
SUMar235 told me that Jimmy Jam talked about Mariah last night on Access Hollywood and all he had to say was good things. He said...

"Don't think about Mariah the person, think about Mariah the corporation. With all the things that she has to do and keep track of, it is not easy for her to take a break. It would have to take an act of God to force her into slowing down and taking time to herself."

Mariah Sits Down With Barbara Walters
Connie Chung snagged tonight's big Gary Condit interview, but Barbara Walters has one heck of a consolation prize: Mariah Carey.

The embattled singer, who suffered an emotional breakdown on July 25 and spent the next 11 days in Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan, Conn., agreed to sit down with Walters for a "20/20" piece that ABC will air Sept. 12.

I'm told Walters beat out the competition because she interviewed Carey for a "20/20" story a few years ago, and she and the singer had a good rapport.

Carey's rep would not say when or where the chat would take place but did confirm the interview. Carey consented to the interview, her rep added, "to clear up a lot of nonsense and rumors that have been in the print press. Mariah wants to resume her normal life."

The singer left a new audio message on her Web site yesterday thanking her fans and assuring them, "You definitely can't believe everything you read.… I am taking care of myself, and as I speak to you, I'm looking at the most beautiful rainbow that's going across the entire sky."

MARIAH CAREY: Glitter Reaches #1 in Japanese Album Charts

Sony Japan are very pleased to announce that Mariah Carey's album "Glitter" has reached #1 in its first week on the Original Confidence album chart (August 27th chart; based on results from August 13th -19th).

The album was released on August. 18th, and this will be Mariah's 5th album to reach #1 on this chart which is more than any other international female artist ever, and also rivals Simon & Garfunkel's record set in 1972. It is also the first international soundtrack ever to achieve the #1 position, which is another record-setting accomplishment. Mariah Carey is unquestionably one of the most successful international female singers of all time.

    Mariah has sent us the following message upon hearing the wonderful achievement;
'I am enormously grateful to my Japanese fans and to Sony Japan. I have worked so hard for this and it is an amazing moment for me. Your loyalty and support continues to provide me with great inspiration. I can't even express how much this means to me as an artist and as an individual, especially at this moment in my life. I can't thank you enough and I look forward to seeing you all in Japan. Aishitemasu!' "

    New Belgian Release
Gilles, from Heros Of Mariah, told me that the new Belgian release date is January 9th. This information comes from a Belgian Distributor.

    Excerpts From Allure Magazine.
The Money Honey, page 190, by Vanessa Grigoriadas
She's got a new movie, a new record, and a new contract estimated at $100 million. But not all that glitters is gold for Mariah Carey -- "Right now I've just signed this big deal that everybody's watching. I don't have the time to relax ... "

Only weeks before she was forced to take a break due to "physical and emotional exhaustion," Carey spoke openly with Allure about her lack of time for sleep, relationships, and herself. She explained, "I never sleep-literally, I sleep like three hours a night -- and everyone thinks I'm Supergirl because I just keep going, but the truth of the matter is I do require food and sleep. It's like, 'Hello, I am not a cartoon character!'"

She says she is in a "zone," a point in her life that is "about movies, videos, songs, albums, interviews, work, focus." Her zone is a laundry list of activities-with romance absent. "I couldn't even exist within a relationship ... a relationship requires giving of yourself to be in something. And I don't have it. I mean, I'm not even very fair to myself."

    Allure Magazine Is Out Now
Two people already told me they got the new Allure magazine, that features Mariah on the cover. It was suppose to come out next week but someone told me they picked it up in NY today. NYC and LA gets magazines a day early, so it might be out tomorrow all around the USA!! So hopefully Daily will have all the scans for you on Saturday or maybe even tomorrow!

Sad News: Mariah Daily To Shut Down
Well I think Mariah Daily might be shutting down shortly because I just can't handle it sadly! College starts up in a week and a half and for those of you who know my recent troubles, my father was just granted custody of all three children, which means the oldest one is back at home with us, for now. It's hard to help take care of three children all under the age of 5, work full time, attend college full time, do homework, hang with friends and run this site. Sadly though I REALLY want to keep it going though somehow, so I am going to see if I can work something out so maybe I can at least report the TOP news stories everyday, rather than reporting every single little detail, like I have been doing for the last four years. So, if something you send me is NOT added, please don't hold it against me right now. I have a lot to deal with on my plate.

    Glitter in Mexico
Sadly, I lost the information on who sent me this next bit o' info but Glitter will be released in Mexico on October 26th and the name of the movie will be "El Brillo De Una Estrella" (A Star's Glitter).

    Safe Harbor
Mira Sorvino denies catfighting with Mariah Carey

Mira Sorvino denied a People magazine story that she and now ailing Mariah Carey got into a physical fight on the set of their upcoming film ''Wisegirls.'' The story quoted producer Billy Blake as saying that during the first week of filming, the two stars wrestled on the floor, and Carey threw a salt shaker at Sorvino. Blake issued a statement denying having witnessed any altercation, since he wasn't on the set that day, but People stood by its story, saying Blake had told the magazine that eight eyewitnesses had phoned him about the alleged incedent. For her part, Sorvino denounced the article as ''irresponsible journalism.'' While she admitted ''words were exchanged,'' she said in a statement, ''No physical fight ever occurred between us, and the idea is as insulting as it is laughable. We finished the film dancing at an impromptu wrap party in high spirits and exchanged gifts and warmest goodbyes. My heart goes out to her, and I am praying for her speedy recovery.'' Carey remains under psychiatric care at a cottage on the 60 acre grounds of Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan, Conn., where she checked herself in nearly two weeks ago, citing exhaustion.

    Mariah Carey Is Surfacing, Gradually
    August 22, 2001
    by Stephen M. Silverman

Two weeks after her recent hospitalization to recover from a physical and emotional breakdown, the reclusive Mariah Carey, obviously feeling better, reportedly paid a brief surprise visit to Camp Mariah in Fishkill, N.Y., a week ago. According to USA Today, the diva, 31, spent two hours at the camp last Wednesday with 150 disadvantaged youngsters from New York City, signing autographs for the campers, who each received a portable CD player and her single "Loverboy." "It was very festive," said Jenny Morgenthau, executive director of the Fresh Air Fund, which oversees five camps, including Camp Mariah. The camp is named for Carey, a Fresh Air Fund board member. "It's great that somebody that famous would come and sit and talk to them," Morgenthau said. Meanwhile, on her Web site, Carey has left an audio message for fans, assuring them of her good health and asking them to be skeptical about reports about her. Says the message: "I just want to say thank you sooo much for all the letters and everything . . . And, um, thank you, because I am taking care of myself, and as we speak -- or as I speak to you -- I'm looking at the most beautiful rainbow that is going across the entire sky, and I love you much! Thanks. Bye." As plans continue to release Carey's debut starring vehicle, the movie "Glitter" (soon after she was hospitalized on July 25, the flick's opening was pushed back from Aug. 31 to Sept. 21), her record label has managed to assemble a new video for her next single, "Never Too Far." With Carey unavailable for filming, the video will consist of existing footage from the movie, says a Virgin spokesperson. The soundtrack, Carey's first album for Virgin, is now due in stores Sept. 11.

    One Sweet Day
Mariah Carey Talks About Her Breakdown
    By Gary Susman

    RAINBOW CONNECTION
Yesterday, Mariah Carey gave her first public statement since her recent breakdown and hospitalization. Carey has been laying low since she was discharged earlier this month from the Connecticut hospital where she was under psychiatric care after her ''emotional and physical breakdown,'' having emerged from seclusion only to pay a two-hour visit last week to Camp Mariah, the Fishkill, N.Y., summer camp she runs for disadvantaged kids. (In that surprise appearance, she passed out to all the kids ice cream treats, portable CD players, and discs of her new single, ''Loverboy.'') Tuesday, she left an audio ''message for my fans'' on her website: ''I just want to say thank you sooo much for all the letters, and everything that I got from you. I want you to know you definitely can't believe everything you read. And, um, thank you, because I am taking care of myself, and as we speak -- or as I speak to you -- I'm looking at the most beautiful rainbow that is going across the entire sky, and I love you much! Thanks. Bye.'' Way to work in a plug for that last album, Mariah.
